Re-Listen: Training Your Kids on Inclusion & Acceptance with Laura Wifler EP 27

Maybe you know what it’s like – your kid sees another kid at the store or in school that is different from them, and they don’t know how to act. They try to look at them out of the corner of their eye, maybe they giggle, or they loudly ask you what that thing is they sitting on and if they can get one. Sure, it’s embarrassing, but it’s in no way a reflection of your parenting. Rather than shushing your child and moving on like it never happened, you can take this as an opportunity to teach your children about inclusion. In this episode, we had a conversation with the infamous Laura Wifler, co-founder and executive director of Risen Motherhood. On top of producing content for Risen Motherhood, Laura is also an author of multiple books and creates resources for moms, kids, and families. Laura has a daughter with a rare genetic condition – in this episode, she shares some parenting tips to help teach children on how to react around others with disabilities, practice acceptance, and maybe even make a new friend! Enjoy! In this episode, we discuss: How to train your kids to act around children with disabilities – and find similarities instead! How inclusion has improved (or not improved) in church.Moving from tolerance to acceptance. How to have conversations about inclusion with your children with regard to the LGBTQ community. Why it’s important to have friends who are different from us.How Laura manages all the things in her life – because she is one busy lady!Resources from this episode: Laura Wifler Social MediaWebsiteInstagramRisen Motherhood Social MediaWebsiteInstagramFacebookEpisode 24 with Heather's girlfriendsListen to Shane & Shane; Psalm 23Heather's Favorite Worship PlaylistTeam Building For Solopreneur Mamas: Guide and Video CoursePlease Leave a Rating and Review: We’d appreciate you subscribing to this podcast and leaving an Apple Podcasts review. The Hidden Crisis: Foster Care, Adoption, and Spiritual Resilience with Rebekah Weigel EP 85

In this episode of the Healthy by Heather Brown podcast, Heather dives into the importance of mental, physical, and spiritual health in children with her guest, Rebekah Weigel, a producer, writer, and foster/adoptive parent. They discuss the movie 'Sound of Hope,' which focuses on a community-based adoption and foster care model inspired by real-life events from a small church in East Texas. Heather and Rebekah explore the church's role in supporting children both locally and globally, addressing the various traumas that children encounter today. Rebekah shares her journey from psychology to filmmaking, the challenges and blessings of foster care, and the critical role of community support in encouraging adoptive families. Families who serve children through foster care and adoption are embodying the role of local missionaries and are meeting a great need. While more foster and adoptive families are needed, the church can also support these parents by offering prayer and care in the same way it would for international missionaries. We are called to be set apart, salt and light, in a dark world. In the marriage corner, this episode focuses on the balance of phone usage to foster better family relationships and concludes with actionable insights for parents on how to stay present in their children's lives. Scripture verses highlighted in this episode include:James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me,  ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Links from this episode: https://www.peacetreeproductions.com/ https://www.instagram.com/rebekahweigel/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/soundofhopefilm/?hl=en https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3013928/ Sponsor for this episode: Bio-Kult Probiotic - USE CODE HEATHER20 for a discount! http://us.bio-kult.com/ 00:00 Welcome to Healthy by Heather Brown 00:45 Introducing Rebekah Weigel 02:14 Rebecca's Journey into Filmmaking 04:10 The Story Behind 'Sound of Hope' 05:08 Challenges and Community in Adoption 10:58 Supporting Adoptive Families 11:57 Bio Kult Everyday: A Probiotic Solution 14:57 Rebekah's Reflections on Adoption 21:13 How to Watch 'Sound of Hope' 22:02 Rebekah's Personal Reset Practices 28:37 Marriage Corner: Balancing Cell Phone Usage 40:40 Closing Remarks and Encouragement Connect with Heather: 7 Days FREE of the HBHB Membership: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/membership/Heather's ebooks: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/product-category/digital-products/Heather's Amazon favorites: https://urlgeni.us/amazon/HBstorefrontHeather's freebies: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/freebies/Heather's favorite liquid collagen: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/everyday-must-haves/Heather's email list: https://spring-pine-631.myflodesk.com/9347a138-077e-4c55-bf61-2137aeed89eaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/healthybyheatherbrown/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HealthyByHeatherBrownPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/healthybyheatherbrown/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@HealthyByHeatherBrown/videosLTK: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/HealthybyHeatherBrownTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healthybyheatherbrown How you can show the podcast some love: FOLLOW - Click that purple '+' in the top right corner of your Apple Podcasts app.RATE - We’d love it even more if you could drop a 5-star rating over on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.REVIEW - Simply select “Ratings and Reviews” and “Write a Review” then a quick line with your favorite part of the episode. Healing From Lies, Toxic Relationships, Loss and Grief With CMT Top Female Country Artist, Stephanie Quayle EP 82

In this episode: Stephanie Quayle, acclaimed singer/songwriter and author of her forthcoming book, Why Do We Stay?, joins Heather to talk about healing from lies, toxic relationships, loss, and grief.  When Stephanie lost her boyfriend in a plane crash, she faced intense grief and pain. Nothing compared, though, to the shock of discovering she had not been the only woman in his life. As her world unraveled around her, Stephanie realized that it had actually been unraveling from the start of their relationship—back when he promised her everything. Stephanie says that her faith and forgiveness of not only the one who inflicted the pain but also of herself, has been the key to freedom and healing in her journey. Her personal journey of faith in Jesus has been one that she has held close and private, but now she is opening up about all God has done in her life. Stephanie was baptized by Pastor Chris Hodges of Church of the Highlands in January – on the 15th anniversary of her pain, which has now become her freedom. Most of us have dealt with a toxic relationship – whether in friendship or romantically. Stephanie’s journey from heartbreak to healing will encourage and inspire you that in Christ, you can be empowered to walk in freedom, lay aside guilt and shame, practice self-care and rebuild your life. Drawing from scripture, biblical wisdom, and personal experience, Ruth's deep belief that God has already ultimately fulfilled all of His promises in Christ undergirds every word of Now and Now Yet. Readers will feel deeply understood, gently challenged and encouraged to call on the Lord amidst every circumstance—to trust they are right where they need to be because God will use it all. Ruth states - “I truly believe your current season is not wasted." And, "God is purposeful about what happens between today and tomorrow, between right now and someday. My prayer is that we stop hiding behind simple platitudes and quick fixes to our unwanted right nows and bravely step into the ways God wants to change us… instead of staying busy trying to change our circumstances.”  In the marriage corner: Eric and Heather dive deep into the Ted Talk on procrastination. What You Need To Know About Mouth Taping & How Mouth Breathing Is Impacting Your Stress, Sleep & Parenting With Campbell Will EP 78

In this episode: Campbell Will, founder of Breath Body Therapy, joins Heather to share his story about researching the power of breathwork and how breathwork isn't a trend but rather it is the single most important function of the body and can either drive us towards health or towards disease. Campbell shares that one of the best things you can do for your nervous system is to manage your state and thus how a managed state impacts parenting. Children will mirror the energy and attitude of parents.  Campbell unpacks the differences between mouth breathing vs nose breathing as well as the impact each has on the mind, body, and nervous system. He also touches on stress (embracing it rather than avoiding it), self regulation (teaching the nervous system how to be calm, the link between breathing and emotions, and the difference between "breathwork" and "breath retraining".  Campbell practically walks through good breathing patterns including how to properly take a deep breath.  Campbell's best takeaway is to use your breathing as a way to hit the reset button throughout the day. When you begin noticing mouth breathing, use the moment to course correct. No marriage corner in this episode! Covid Comeback & Health Lies Told To The American People With Dr. Austin Lake EP 75

In this episode: Dr. Austin Lake, husband and father to 3 joins Heather to share about how your physical health is directly correlated to spiritual health, the benefits of the carnivore diet, how to properly detox your system, why hot showers might be harming your thyroid, how convenience foods might be killing you, and the ways we believe Covid was handled poorly. He provokes the thought of, "Instead of detoxing, think about NOT putting toxins into your system in the first place." No Marriage Corner in today's episode because my conversation with Dr. Austin Lake was SO good and we went a little over on time.
