Episode 661: Whitney Heins – Welcoming The Mother Runners to the Sandyboy Productions Podcast Network!

Today’s episode is a special one as we officially welcome The Mother Runners to the Sandyboy Productions Podcast Network. Whitney Heins, host of the show and founder of themotherrunners.com, joins Lindsey for a relaxed, back-and-forth conversation about running, motherhood, identity, injury, coaching, and building a platform that lifts up moms who run. Whitney shares how motherhood changed her relationship with running, the experience of feeling isolated as a new mom, and how that led her to create an online resource and community specifically for mother runners. She opens up about navigating a long injury cycle and the process of returning to the marathon to run a 2:54 in her 40s. Whitney also talks about what it’s like stepping into her own podcast after co-hosting Miles With Moms, and why storytelling matters so much in this space. This episode is airing on both I’ll Have Another and The Mother Runners, making it the perfect way to kick off this new chapter. About The Mother Runners Podcast: There is truly no shortage of incredible and inspiring mother runners in the world. Every mom has such a good story—no matter how much they run, how fast, how far, or for how long—embedded in all of our journeys are chapters of strength, hope and overcoming that we all need to hear. Because when we hear each other’s stories, not only are we lifting each other up, but we are learning and growing, being inspired, and motivated. That’s why this podcasts features in-depth and fun interviews with fellow moms who run to share their stories—some names you may recognize, and some you will get to know. But all will inspire and entertain you. Thanks for being here! Episode 660: Sinclaire Johnson Sets American Record With 4:21 Road Mile Win at the Merrie Mile

Today on the show, Sinclaire Johnson is back, and she just had herself a day at the Merrie Mile in Honolulu. She won the race, ran a 4:21 road mile, and set a new American record. This is not new territory for her either. She has set American records before, made the World Champs team this past year, and after a few tough years battling major bone injuries, she’s finally feeling strong, healthy, and ready to keep building. We talk about racing a road mile without clocks or splits, being coached by her fiance Craig, what she learned from finishing fourth at the Olympic Trials in 3:56, how cross training has helped keep her healthy, and what she is targeting in 2026 with a full indoor season and an outdoor year that looks a little different. What we talked about: Sinclaire’s Merrie Mile win in Honolulu and the 4:21 American record Racing with no clocks, no splits, and a pacer plan that changed in real time Why this fall felt different and why she feels stronger than ever right now Being coached by her fiance Craig and what changed in her training and communication The mental side of returning from repeated bone injuries and reframing fear Feeling unheard in past training groups and why athlete coach communication matters Advice for young pros choosing a coach, team, and a life outside running Olympic Trials 2024, running 3:56 for fourth, and what she learned from it World Champs season takeaways and learning to adjust without blame Cross training as a core strategy and how she structures volume off her legs Indoor season plans and what she is excited to chase next How world rankings work and what the new “Ultimate Championships” format looks like Favorite event order: track 1500, road mile, track mile Life outside running: bread baking, what she is reading, and what she is watching Last message: being your biggest advocate and trusting your intuition Media mentioned Book: The Remarkable Life of Irawati Karve Show: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Music artist group: RÜFÜS DU SOL Support our Sponsors: CURE Hydration — No added sugar or dyes; electrolyte mix for adults and kids; non-GMO; FSA/HSA eligible. Episode 659: Wrapping Up the Wellness Series with Brad Stulberg on Excellence, Care, and Meaningful Goals

We’re closing out our 10-part Wellness Series with a conversation that couldn’t feel more fitting. Today’s guest is my friend Brad Stulberg, who returns to the podcast to talk about his new book, The Way of Excellence: A Guide to True Greatness and Deep Satisfaction in a Chaotic World. I read this book over the past couple of months and finished it on the plane heading to a busy week of interviews at the running event, and I genuinely felt more grounded and prepared because of it. Brad has been on the show many times, and I always leave our conversations with tangible takeaways for how to live and lead better. He’s the author of The Practice of Groundedness, Master of Change, Peak Performance, and The Passion Paradox, and he brings such a thoughtful, practical lens to ambition, growth, and fulfillment. In this episode, we talk about caring deeply, the inevitability of failure, and why caring, even when it opens us up to heartbreak, is still worth it. We also touch on goal setting as we head into a new year and how to think about excellence in a way that’s sustainable and meaningful. I hope you love this conversation as much as I did and that it leaves you feeling encouraged as we wrap up this series. Check out Brad’s work and pre order his newest book at BradStulberg.com What we talked about: December as a natural season for reflection, and the tension of “ramping down” while launching something big The Way of Excellence and how excellence can be a mindset you practice, not just an outcome you achieve “Brave New World” as a fear-to-curiosity reframe for big moments (races, interviews, parenting, hard lifts) Curiosity vs fear, and why curiosity helps you perform better (and feel better) under pressure Caring deeply as the cost of stepping into the arena, and why “too cool to care” is actually insecurity Excellence as heartfelt (not robotic) and a critique of “pseudo excellence” culture and optimization obsession Cold plunges and “hacks”: what’s legit, what’s hype, and when hard things are useful vs unnecessary Identity and the “house with rooms” metaphor (runner, parent, creative, partner) so one setback doesn’t collapse your whole sense of self Reading vs short-form video for attention, cognition, and emotional health, plus habits that support focus New Year goals: why resolutions fail, and how values-based goal setting helps you climb the right mountain Sponsors: Eternal This entire Wellness Series has been made possible by Eternal, a science-backed preventative health company for people who take their health and training seriously. Episode 658: First Podcast Guest: Laura Galeazzo; 2:49 marathoner

I cannot tell you how special this episode feels to me. Laura Galeazzo — who longtime listeners will remember as the very first guest I ever interviewed back in 2016 — is back on the show, and catching up with her brought everything full circle. When I launched this podcast, I was a young mom with two little kids, newly pregnant with my third, dreaming about building something of my own. Laura said yes to being my very first interview when all I had was a microphone, a simple idea, and a whole lot of belief. Since then, she’s lived so much life: she’s had two babies, become a real estate agent, coached athletes, and continued to chase big goals with the same quiet determination that made her story so compelling in the first place. She’s now a 2:49 marathoner and recently ran a huge half marathon PR, breaking through years of self-doubt to rediscover her confidence. I’ve watched her navigate seasons of grit, seasons without PRs, and seasons where she just kept showing up for herself — and seeing her run her strongest races yet is incredibly inspiring. It feels so right to have her back on the show all these years later, still getting after it and still reminding us what’s possible when you keep going. Episode 657: The Wellness One – Meghann Featherstun; Wellness Trends & Post-Marathon Recovery

For this episode in our wellness series, I’m joined by sports dietitian and marathoner Meghann Featherstun of Featherstone Nutrition. I had just gotten home from a whirlwind week at The Running Event and CIM, where I hosted conversations with Gabby Thomas (sponsored by Amazfit) and a Road to the Trials panel, and I was excited to sit down for a fresh, in-depth chat with Meghann. We debrief her time at TRE, where there were over 50 nutrition brands on display, and dig into what’s actually new and useful in sports fueling right now. We talk about higher-carb products, evolving electrolyte and caffeine trends, and how to think about choosing between all the options on the market. From there, we dive into some big wellness topics like nicotine pouches, GLP-1 medications, midlife weight changes, and the pressure runners feel around body image. Meghann shares both her clinical and personal perspective on when these tools can be life-changing for health and when they become a vanity shortcut. We also cover how to talk about food and bodies with our kids, and then wrap up with practical advice for recovering from a fall marathon, including fueling in the days after your race, adjusting nutrition when mileage drops, and what to make of “fiber maxing.” Enjoy my conversation with Meghann! Episode 656: Olympic Champion Gabby Thomas on Paris Gold, Purpose, and the Road to LA 2028

In this episode, I sat down with Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas while I was in San Antonio for The Running Event, and it was such a fun, inspiring conversation. Gabby had an incredible 2024 season where she won gold in the 200 meters in Paris and was part of the gold medal 4×100 and 4×400 teams. She runs for New Balance, studied neurobiology at Harvard, and went on to earn her master’s in public health, so we talk about how her academic background shapes the way she thinks about performance, health, and life beyond the track. We get into what it actually felt like to win that individual gold, how she handled the pressure of the Olympic Games, what she’s learning in this phase of her career, and what she’s dreaming about as she looks toward LA 2028. We also chat about her partnership with Amazfit, how she uses their watch in training and racing, and why this season has been so meaningful to her both on and off the track. Episode 655: Molly Huddle on Postpartum Running, Every Woman’s Marathon, and What Comes Next

Today I am talking with two-time Olympian and Saucony athlete Molly Huddle, who just ran the Every Woman’s Marathon six months postpartum with her second baby. Molly used the race as a long training run and shares what it felt like to approach the marathon in a more relaxed, flexible way than she has in the past while still respecting how hard 26.2 miles feels at any pace. We get into how life looks right now with two young daughters, how she and her husband are tag-teaming work and parenting, and what it has been like to train and race while breastfeeding. Molly explains why she chose this marathon as a fundraising opportunity for For All Mothers+, how she approached the effort on the day, and what she learned about her current fitness and recovery. Molly also talks about where she is with professional running at age 41, her hope to qualify for another Olympic Marathon Trials, and what it means to her to compete in a “part-time” or “semi-retired” way while she leans into coaching, writing, and parenting. We talk about identity shifts in motherhood, the invisible work that goes into raising kids, and how to stay engaged with the sport even when the goals and timelines look different than they did in your twenties. Finally, Molly shares more about the new pregnancy and postpartum running book she is co-writing, the research she is excited about, and her thoughts on aging, body image, and what it really means to let running “light you up,” whatever season of life you are in. Topics Discussed: Molly’s decision to run the Every Woman’s Marathon six months postpartum Using a marathon as a long training run instead of an all-out effort Balancing breastfeeding, travel, and race-day logistics with a baby and a toddler Fundraising and partnering with For All Mothers+ at the race How the Every Woman’s Marathon creates an unintimidating, women-centered race experience Postpartum training, injury history, and choosing a more cautious path back Shifting identity from full-time pro runner to part-time competitor, coach, and writer Motherhood, invisible labor, and how priorities around work and running change Body image, aging, and pressure around appearance and performance The new pregnancy and postpartum running book and current women’s health research Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. Episode 654: Sophie King; 2:34 Marathoner On Racing Through Setbacks, Big Dreams, and Finding Her Spark Again

Today’s episode comes to you from my time at the Allianz Richmond Marathon weekend. This was my third year serving as race emcee in Richmond, and once again I left feeling deeply moved by the stories, resilience, and joy I witnessed at the finish line. I watched first-time marathoners cross with disbelief in their eyes, couples holding hands as they finished together, runners pushing through pain, and others celebrating huge personal victories. There is a kind of gratitude at the end of a marathon that you just cannot replicate anywhere else, and Richmond always reminds me why I love this experience so much. Today’s conversation is a special live recording from that weekend, where I sat down with Sophie King and Trevor Spencer. Trevor is one of the co-hosts of the Marathon Training Academy podcast, and Sophie King is a professional runner based in Richmond with an incredibly compelling story. Sophie made her marathon debut right here in Richmond in 2021 and later ran a 2:34 at CIM in 2023. She was on track for big things before suffering a torn plantar fascia that ultimately kept her from competing at the Olympic Trials, but what struck me most about this conversation is her perspective, her honesty, and her belief that her best years are still ahead of her. Sophie comes from a swimming background and only transitioned fully to running in recent years, which makes her rise in the sport even more impressive. She speaks openly about setbacks, rebuilding confidence after injury, learning to trust her body again, and continuing to chase big goals despite the detours. There is a calm strength to the way she talks about her journey, and I loved hearing her articulate not only her ambitions but her deep gratitude for the process as well. This was one of those conversations that felt too meaningful not to share publicly. Her story, her mindset, and her vulnerability deserve to be heard, and I’m so excited for you to listen. Episode 653: CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Recap with Ally Brettnacher and Emily Infeld

Hey friends, welcome to I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. If you ran the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon, or 5K this past weekend, congratulations. It was incredible to see so many familiar faces out there, and it was an honor to be the race emcee again this year. Between the energy at the start and the emotion at the finish line, this race really showed up — including a huge three-minute drop in the men’s marathon course record and a long list of Olympic Trials qualifiers. I wanted to break it all down with two people who experienced the weekend right alongside me. My friend Ally Brettnacher is here — she’s the host of Finish Lines & Milestones, part of the Sandyboy Productions network, and she always brings such a fun perspective from the everyday runner community. Emily Infeld also joins us. She was the guest of honor at Monumental this year — she helped start the race, she handed out medals at the finish line, she sat down for an interview at the expo, and she joined me for our live podcast at the post-race celebration. Emily barely needs an introduction, but here’s a quick one: she’s an Olympian, a US national champion, a five-time track world finalist, and she won the 10,000m national title this summer after ten years filled with surgeries, setbacks, comebacks, and breakthroughs. She’s sponsored by Brooks Running. Brooks partnered with us through Athletic Annex for the weekend, which was really special since Emily is a Brooks athlete. My relationship with Athletic Annex goes back more than a decade — I helped them with social media and events long before I started hosting live podcasts, and they’ve supported every single event I’ve brought to Indianapolis since. Every time I’m back home for a shakeout run, a live show, or anything related to the Monumental, they’re right there with me. This year we hosted our biggest post-race party yet, and I’ll be honest — I was nervous nobody would buy tickets. I wanted it to be an elevated event, with great food, drinks, a killer goodie bag, and a chance for everyone to actually celebrate their race. We ended up selling out and even added extra tickets at the door. One of the biggest hits was the Indy poster Ally designed — inspired by iconic race posters at major marathons — where everyone could stencil in their finishing time. It was so fun watching people make their own little Monumental keepsake. Our vision is to make this weekend feel a little more like the big-city marathon experience: a Friday shakeout run, community events, and a post-race celebration every year moving forward. One thing I’m especially proud of is that we were able to donate $500 from the event back to the Monumental Kids Movement — a school-based running and wellness program. Beyond Monumental does such meaningful work with kids year after year, and I’m glad we could give back to that mission. Huge thanks to everyone who came to the race, the expo, the live show, and the party — it meant so much. If you enjoyed this episode or were part of the weekend, a quick rating and review goes a long way. And if you’re already planning on Monumental 2026 — and I know some of you type-A runners are — make sure you’re in town for the Friday shakeout and the post-race party. We’re already excited for next year. Episode 652: Annie Frisbie 5th Place at the 2025 NYC Marathon in 2:24:12

Today I’m joined by Annie Frisbie, who just finished fifth at the 2025 New York City Marathon in 2:24:12 — the second-fastest American performance ever on that course. Annie has quickly become one of the most consistent and exciting marathoners in the U.S., and what I love most about her story is how steady, grounded, and quietly fierce she is. She debuted in New York back in 2021 running 2:26:18 — the fourth-fastest debut by an American woman on that course — and since then she’s continued to chip away, stacking strong, confident races while training with Minnesota Distance Elite. Annie grew up in Wisconsin, ran at Iowa State where she was an All-American in cross country, and now runs professionally for Puma. In this conversation, we break down her NYC race from the inside, including the moments she almost lost confidence, how she’s learning to trust positive self-talk, and what she’s excited about for 2026 and beyond. Annie is thoughtful, humble, and incredibly fun to root for — you’re going to feel so inspired hearing about her process, her mindset, and the way she’s growing into this event. I loved catching up with her so much. Topics we cover NYC race plan, surges, and key course sections Passing Sifan Hassan late and protecting position Solo miles, crowd energy, and managing pain honestly Fueling: UCAN gels (alternating caffeine) and electrolytes Training consistency, hamstring care, and support team Mindset: visualization, mantras, and choosing helpful thoughts Tactical Majors vs time trial courses Post-race recovery, winter training, and 2026 goals Media and links mentioned Book: Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor Music: Hans Zimmer; Ramin Djawadi soundtracks; Florence and the Machine (new album) Podcasts: Amy Poehler’s show; The Telepathy Tapes Team/Sponsor: Minnesota Distance Elite; Puma Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. Episode 651: The Wellness One – Emily Saul on Race-Day Mindset, Segmenting the Marathon, and Redefining Success

We are back with another Wellness One episode, and today I’m joined by our favorite running sports psychologist, Emily Saul. I’ve admired Emily’s work for years, and several athletes I coach have worked with her and seen real shifts in how they handle racing, training, and life. Emily shares how she came to sports psychology through rowing, coaching, November Project, and counseling, and why she views movement as both classroom and laboratory. We dig into the “helpful vs. unhelpful” frame, flipping perfectionism into process, and building a mental race plan that breaks a marathon into truly manageable chunks. Emily walks through practical tools for race day and how to define success with process and experience goals so your body can do what it is trained to do. I think you’ll feel your nervous system settle a bit just listening, and leave with a plan you can use at whatever race is next on your calendar. Topics discussed: • Emily’s path to sports psychology and why movement is a vehicle for growth • The “helpful vs. unhelpful” reframe for plans, workouts, and expectations • Process goals and experience goals that support performance • Building a mental race plan by chunking time, course sections, and fuel windows • What to do when discomfort shows up early and how to choose your next best action • Keeping attention in the present and letting completed chunks count as wins • Why success is self-defined and how to let running serve your life Media recommended: • Mindfulness by Ellen Langer • The Mindful Body by Ellen Langer • Emily’s site: esaulmovement.com Support Our Sponsors: Eternal Go to eternal.co and book your performance physical today. Episode 650: Carolyn Coffin – Welcoming Inspired Soles to the SandyBoy Productions Podcast Network

I’m so thrilled to introduce Carolyn Coffin to the SandyBoy Productions podcast network. Carolyn hosts the Inspired Soles podcast and has been telling incredible stories in the running world since 2020. She’s based in Canada, and we get into how much her show highlights Canadian athletes, why those stories matter, and the crossover between the U.S. and Canadian running scenes. Carolyn shares her background as a physiotherapist, how she shifted into health coaching and eventually running coaching, and how she found her own love for the sport later in life. We talk through her long journey with the marathon — the near misses, the tough races, the canceled races, the heat DNFs — and the fire she still has at age 48 to run her fastest marathon yet. She also talks about family life, her husband’s running, raising teenagers, and what her coaching roster looks like today. This is a rich conversation about longevity, learning, curiosity, and chasing big goals no matter your age. Topics discussed: Welcoming Inspired Soles to the network Why Canadian representation in running media matters Carolyn’s shifts from physio to health coach to running coach The early running memories that shaped her beliefs Her breakthrough years and chasing sub-3:20 Chicago 2020 getting canceled and the virtual marathon Heat cancellations, injuries, GI issues, and all the almost-PRs Training for the Marathon Project Running with her husband and pacing each other How her kids relate to running and movement Coaching everyday runners and creating community Future ideas around philanthropy and supporting women chasing big goals What inspires her right now Media recommended: Running the Dream Don’t Tell Me You’re Afraid Rory Linkletter’s YouTube channel Rory and Jill Linkletter on Inspired Soles Podcast (EP 241) Ben Flanagan on the Inspired Soles Podcast (EP 261) Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. Episode 649: Get Hype for Indy Monumental with Jeff Cunningham

This week is Indy Monumental and I am buzzing. I’ll be the race emcee at the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, and Jeff Cunningham joins me on this episode to get you ready and excited. Jeff coaches Bat City Track Club in Austin, runs Cunningham Running, and hosts the Consistently Good podcast for BPN. He’s bringing a big crew to Indy and knows this course inside and out. We walk through the course from start to finish, dial in race-week mindset and pacing, and talk about how to stay steady when the race gets quiet. Episode 648: Rory Linkletter on Taking Big Risks, Running Fearlessly, and his 2:06:49 PR in Chicago

Rory Linkletter is back on the podcast and he is truly one of the most entertaining, insightful people to talk running with. He just ran a huge PR of 2:06:49 at the Chicago Marathon, and we get into everything that went into that performance — the big swing for the Canadian record, what it felt like to put himself in the race early, and how he managed the moment he realized he’d be running the last 12 miles alone. He breaks down the pace groups, the chaos of early race dynamics, and the confidence that comes from having 13 marathons worth of experience to lean on. We also talk about what it means to actually race a marathon versus just running one — how fueling, composure, and mindset have evolved for him, and why he’s shifting his focus away from chasing a specific time and toward racing with courage at the front of major marathons. Rory shares openly about coaching transitions, what he learned from Boston, how he’s thinking about LA 2028, and how he balances training with being a dad of two. It’s a fun, honest conversation with someone who isn’t afraid to say big goals out loud and back them up with the work. Topics we Discussed: Chicago PR and the Canadian record chase From running marathons to racing them Fueling practice on every long run Coaching with Ryan Hall to Jon Green Composure during the race Why he’s shelving the record goal Racing the group vs. running your own race Building toward LA 2028 Family travel and dad life Sports fandom and downtime Books and podcasts he’s into Media and Mentions: Books: Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey Ernest Shackleton and Endurance (explorer and book referenced) Matthew McConaughey’s new book Rory referenced: Poems and Prayers Podcasts Rory listens to: Pardon My Take The Bill Simmons Podcast The Ryen Russillo Show Sports fandom: Baltimore Ravens, Denver Nuggets, Calgary Flames, Boston Red Sox Follow us! Episode 647: Aubrey Frentheway: 4th American at Chicago on Learning, Fueling, and Finding Confidence on the Marathon Journey

In this episode, I chat with Aubrey Frentheway, a rising American marathoner who finished 12th overall and 4th American at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, running 2:27. Aubrey also ran 2:27 earlier this year at Grandma’s Marathon, marking an impressive progression since her debut marathon last year in Chicago (2:35). She runs for Saucony, trains with Ed Eyestone’s group in Utah alongside athletes like Keira D’Amato, Emily Venters, and Makenna Myler, and teaches eighth-grade math part-time while balancing her professional running career. Aubrey and I talk about what it’s like to jump to the marathon at such a young age, her transition from BYU and Coach Diljeet Taylor to training with Ed Eyestone’s team, and how she’s learned to master fueling after some hard lessons from her first marathon. She shares openly about her hamstring injury, her mindset through setbacks, and how she’s learning to love the process—especially the marathon training itself. We also chat about her classroom life, her dog (who’s very impatient during her recovery!), her husband’s support while he’s in PT school, and her plans for a spring marathon once she’s healthy again. This is such an honest, down-to-earth conversation with an athlete who’s finding her rhythm and confidence in the professional world while keeping perspective and joy in the process. Topics Discussed Aubrey’s progression from 2:35 to 2:27 in the marathon Joining Ed Eyestone’s training group and the team’s growing energy Balancing running with teaching middle school math Managing a hamstring injury and recovery process The highs and lows of marathon racing and mental waves mid-race Fueling lessons and working with a sports dietitian Transitioning from BYU and Coach Diljeet Taylor to professional training Learning from mentorship and teammates like Keira D’Amato and Courtney Frerichs Her love for marathon training and what’s next on her race calendar Non-running life: family, travel, and her dog Media Recommended Book: Don’t Call It a Comeback by Keira D’Amato Show: Chad Powers (Hulu) Support our Sponsors: Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Weekend: I’ll be your race emcee at the Monumental Marathon — come find me at the start or finish line! Episode 646: The Wellness One: Jamie Greenawalt on Leadership, Goal Setting, and the Power of Foot Levelers

In this episode of I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein, Lindsey sits down with Jamie Greenawalt, President of Foot Levelers, for a conversation about leadership, goal setting, and building a wellness-centered life. Jamie is a third-generation leader in the company, a mom of two, and someone whose passion for improving people’s lives through chiropractic care shines through in everything she does. I first met Jamie at the Blue Ridge Marathon—where Foot Levelers is the title sponsor—and quickly realized her story and expertise would resonate with my listeners. Jamie shares what it’s like running a multigenerational business, how Foot Levelers orthotics are designed to support all three arches of the foot for optimal stability, and why their custom approach sets them apart in the wellness industry. She also opens up about her daily habits, how she stays organized amid a busy schedule, and the importance of setting clear goals. I share about my own experience using Foot Levelers orthotics since May and how much they’ve helped support my high arches. Whether you’re curious about better foot health or simply want inspiration from a driven leader and working mom, this episode offers a great mix of motivation and practical takeaways. Topics Discussed Foot Levelers’ partnership with the Blue Ridge Marathon and community wellness The history and family legacy behind Foot Levelers How custom orthotics work and why supporting all three arches matters Relationship between chiropractic care, biomechanics, and lower back health Types of orthotics for different lifestyles and activity levels Jamie’s running background and balancing wellness as a working mom Creating a “life club” — goal setting and accountability with friends Work-life balance, slowing down, and finding joy in small moments The importance of alignment and authenticity in business partnerships Foot Levelers’ new partnership with professional runner Sarah Hall Media Recommended Book: The AI-Driven Leader by Jeff Woods — A guide to using artificial intelligence to improve leadership, problem-solving, and innovation. Episode 645: Emily Venters’ Chicago Marathon Debut: Grit, Grace, and Finishing With Heart

I hope you had a wonderful Chicago Marathon weekend — if you raced, congrats! It was such a joy to be in Chicago again. Today I’m recapping the Chicago Marathon with the one and only Emily Venters. I spoke with Emily at the pre-race press conference — she was so excited to debut the marathon. If you had her on your tracker, you saw that things went sideways on race day. In this conversation, Emily shares the full story of what unfolded on the course and how she handled it — with so much grace, grit, and determination. She crossed that finish line about an hour off her goal time, finishing with the masses — something you almost never see a pro do — and there are so many powerful lessons in how she did it. If you’re new to Emily, she was on the show back in May after breaking 15 in the 5K (episode 609). She debuted the half in Houston, placed 5th at the US Half Marathon Championships, and owns a 68:48 PR in the half. She runs for Nike, lives in Utah, and is coached by Ed Eyestone. Emily is also a leukemia survivor (diagnosed at age 3), and she was raising money for that cause in Chicago — another reason finishing meant so much to her. I was at the finish looking for her with my friend (and relay co-host) Erika Kemp, and watching Emily come down that stretch was emotional and inspiring. Go give Emily a follow and a big virtual hug: @VentersEmily on Instagram. We are so proud of you, Emily — can’t wait to see what you do next. Topics Discussed The decision to finish anyway after a prolonged stop in the med tent. Overheating & low sodium symptoms starting as early as miles 6–8. Rejoining with the masses — dodging cups, weaving through runners, lost bottle tables. Improvising fueling — grabbing Gatorade cups, a spectator’s Coke, and a body-armor drink. The Biofreeze-in-the-eye moment — chaos of the mass field. Letting go of ego — finishing with a much slower time vs. DNF. Ties to her leukemia story and fundraising as motivation to finish. Learning the marathon’s science (sweat rate, sodium, carbs) vs. half/10K. Support system — Ed Eyestone, teammates, and the pro road community. Mindset work — journaling, daily “how do I feel?” check-ins, and redefining success. Sponsors Tailwind Nutrition — Complete energy, electrolytes, hydration; light taste, easy on the gut. I’m your host, Lindsey Hein, and today I’m joined by Keira D’Amato! I’m so proud of her and thrilled that her new book, Don’t Call It a Comeback, is officially out in the world. I had the chance to read an advanced copy this summer and absolutely loved getting a deeper look into how she’s processed her rise to success in our running community. We’ve all watched her story unfold—from breaking the American record in the marathon (2:19:12) in 2022, to setting the half marathon record (1:06:39), to balancing her life as a mom of two and Nike athlete. Keira is now training in Utah under coach Ed Eyestone, and this conversation is exactly what you’d expect from her—fun, honest, and inspiring. It’s been a while since she’s been on the show, and she always makes it so easy to root for her. Episode 642: The Wellness One: Fueling Your Body to Run Well with Sports Dietitian Claire Shorenstein

This week on the Wellness Series, I’m joined by Claire Shorenstein, a board-certified sports dietitian who’s spent over a decade helping active people fuel their bodies to feel strong and perform their best. Claire is also a passionate trail and ultrarunner, a mom of two, and the host of the Eat for Endurance podcast. Claire’s own experience struggling to fuel properly as a new runner led her to change careers and devote her work to helping others do it better. In our conversation, she shares practical guidance for athletes of all levels—whether you’re training for your first 5K or your tenth ultra—on how to approach nutrition to support your running, recovery, and overall wellness. This was such a fun and informative conversation, and I hope it leaves you feeling more confident about fueling your body to feel well and run well. What we discussed: Claire’s path from classical musician/oboe player (Yale) to sports dietitian & endurance runner Her philosophy: looking at the “whole person” (life landscape, health history, lab work, lifestyle) Balancing everyday nutrition with training & race-day fueling Common mistakes endurance athletes make — especially under-eating carbs Tracking food intake without triggering disordered-eating tendencies Protein, carbs & fueling as we age: peri/menopause, bone health, energy availability Athlete performance plates & learning what “enough” really looks like Her advice for new marathoners: start by adding more carbs and always fuel before/after workouts Media Recommended: Eat for Endurance podcast – eatforendurance.com Book: Practical Fueling for Endurance Athletes by Kylie Van Horn Claire’s IG: @eatforendurance Kylie’s IG: @flynutrition3 Support our Sponsors: Foot Levelers Visit FootLevelers.com to find a provider near you, or email me at [email protected] or DM me on Instagram @lindseyhein626 and I will point you to the right contact. Episode 641: Natosha Rogers – Chicago Bound With 2:23 Marathoner

Today’s guest is longtime pro Natosha Rogers, back on the show for the first time in about eight years and running her third marathon in Chicago. Natosha has an impressive and long running career so far—NCAA 10K champ in 2012, four Olympic Trials appearances on the track, and a gutsy (and very tough) marathon debut at the 2024 Trials that left her wanting a do-over. She got it this March in Nagoya, running 2:23:51—proof of concept that the marathon is her event when things go right. Since then, she’s moved back home to Colorado, shifted coaching to Steve Magness, and is leaning into a smarter, individualized approach—less ego, more wisdom—for Chicago. We get into why she now believes finishing at the Trials was a mistake, how she managed a mid-race pacing surge in Nagoya, why Chicago’s organization and pacers fit this moment in her career (and contract year), and how a balanced life—family, Denver community, mountains, coffee shops, even a little dancing—actually fuels big goals. It’s reflective, candid, and Chicago-ready—get Natosha in your tracker and enjoy the episode! Top topics discussed: Move back to Colorado; coaching change to Steve Magness and why 2024 Trials debrief: why finishing was a mistake and what it cost her Nagoya marathon: mid-race pacing error, learning to “juggle variables,” and 2:23:51 redemption Marathon wisdom: negotiating with yourself, managing heat/pace, “be a wise old lady” early Injury context (sciatic/nerve chain), lessons on knowing when to stop Leaving the Puma elite group; need for individualized training and life/work separation Why Chicago: organized pacing, fast course, contract timing, field fit and top-10 aim What she values in Steve Magness as a coach: collaboration, individualized volume, mental side of performance Career perspective: longevity, duality of highs/lows, inspired to keep going through 2028 Life outside running: Denver community, mountains, coffee shops, dancing; writing goals/book ideas Media mentioned: Books: The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt), A New Earth (Eckhart Tolle), The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho) Music (karaoke pick): Aretha Franklin — “Chain of Fools” Sponsors: Cornbread Hemp — THC seltzers and CBD/THC gummies; third-party tested; made in the USA. Episode 640: The Wellness One: Chiropractor Q&A with Dr. Kurt Juergens (Chiropractic & Sports Rehab Center — Houston)

For this episode in my Wellness One series, I sat down with Dr. Kurt Juergens, a chiropractor who’s spent 36 years treating runners and athletes. He’s worked on the USATF Olympic Trials sports medicine team (1992) and with the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Tennis Championships—and he’s run seven marathons himself. I came in with basic (and very real) questions: What exactly is happening when something “cracks”? Is it okay that I pop my kids’ backs? How does chiropractic help runners beyond the satisfying pop? We got into feet-as-foundation, why balance and hamstring flexibility matter more than you think, how kinesiology tape actually works, and when custom orthotics (that support all three arches) can change the chain reaction up your ankles, knees, hips, and back. If you’re curious about chiropractic but haven’t tried it (hi, it’s me), this one breaks it down without the overwhelm. Topics we cover Dr. Juergens’ 36 years in sports-focused chiropractic care What’s really happening when you hear the “pop” Safe vs. unsafe back-popping for kids Feet as the foundation: pronation, arches, orthotics Balance and hamstring flexibility for runners Kinesiology tape basics and postural taping When to add PT or imaging and how often to get adjusted Quick drills for runners and posture tips Media & resources mentioned Eternal — performance health plans: eternal.co (code ANOTHER10) Foot Levelers — custom three-arch orthotics (via providers): footlevelers.com Dr. Kurt Juergens — Chiropractic & Sports Rehab Center (Houston, TX) Kinesiology Tape MOBO Board — balance/foot stability tool Lindsey mentioned using Sponsors: Fringe Heals Use code “HEIN10” for 10% off! He focuses on pain, neurological, and autoimmune conditions and was inspired by his own healing journey. His practice combines traditional Chinese medicine with ongoing study of physiology to provide personalized, effective care. I first started seeing Boris in May for bursitis in my foot and Achilles tendonitis. I also asked if he could help with a strange itchy-arm condition I’ve dealt with every summer for over 10 years. Since then, he’s supported me not only with those issues, but also with nervous system regulation and anxiety. We dig into what women’s performance endocrinology actually is, why many active women feel unseen in typical medical settings, and how to think about testing, training, fueling, and recovery through our reproductive continuum. We also get practical on perimenopause, hot flashes, bone health, strength work for runners, weighted vests, and a quick cortisol 101. What we talked about: How Dr. Carla blended endocrinology with sport to serve athletic women The athlete’s frustration in standard care and how to choose a provider who “gets” training and nutrition Hormone testing 101: test to answer a specific question, not “everything” Perimenopause basics: a 6–8 year transition, why it feels “chaotic,” and what to do first HRT vs hormone therapy: who needs replacement, who is treating symptoms, and risk/benefit basics Sleep, hot flashes, and why symptom relief can indirectly support body composition Bone health: fueling first, protein, heavy lifting, plyometrics, and running as load for bone Weighted vests: when they help, when they hurt, practical rules to use them safely Strength for runners: carving out on- and off-seasons, keeping a base, and using coaching wisely Body types, goals, and social media noise; Cortisol 101 and why recovery brings the gains Resources Mentioned: Provider directory: menopause.org (look for MSCP-credentialed clinicians) Community: Feisty Menopause and the Hit Play Not Pause ecosystem Reading: Stacy Sims’ books for nutrition and training guidance for active women Blog: Dr. Carla’s Athletic Aging blog on evidence-based training and menopause Eternal: eternal.co with code ANOTHER10 Support our sponsors: Eternal Use code another10 for 10% off at checkout at eternal.co and book your performance physical today. Episode 634: The Wellness One: Small Habits, Big Life With Dr. Heather McKee

Hey friends! I’m kicking off a brand-new 10-part series on I’ll Have Another called The Wellness One, supported by our friends at Eternal. I wanted a space to look at whole-person health for runners and athletes — beyond splits and workouts — and bring in experts who can actually help us live, train, and feel better for the long haul. Today I’m joined by Dr. Heather McKee, a behavior change specialist who helps people “find joy in their healthy habits.” We get into why many motivated runners (hi, us!) still struggle with the “extras” like strength, mobility, recovery, nutrition, and medical check-ins — and how to finally make those stick. Heather explains how to connect habits to your own why so the motivation is “sticky,” what a minimum viable habit looks like in real life, and how to use flexible scaling instead of all-or-nothing thinking. We talk about “goal dilution,” the power of habit stacking, and how to become a “habit detective” using cues-routine-reward to bend unhelpful behaviors. I even share my own fidgety tendencies, and Heather offers a super practical re-route I’m going to try immediately. We wrap with three takeaways you can use today: Start with why — what does this change contribute to your life. Choose your minimum viable habit — the smallest version you’ll actually do. Scale flexibly — define 1–10 versions so the habit survives real life. Topics Discussed: What The Wellness One series is and why I’m doing it What Eternal offers and where it’s available Runners over-indexing training while neglecting recovery, strength, nutrition, and medical factors Intrinsic (“sticky”) motivation — starting with your personal why Minimum Viable Habit and consistency (the “one tooth” flossing idea) Goal dilution and focusing on one specific change at a time Flexible scaling (defining 1–10 versions so habits survive busy seasons) Habit loop: cue → routine → reward; becoming a “habit detective” Habit stacking and environment design to reduce friction Bending unhelpful habits (fidgets, nail/hair picking) and practical replacements Media Recommendations: Good Habits, Bad Habits — Wendy Wood Atomic Habits — James Clear Unreasonable Hospitality — Will Guidara Meditations for Mortals — Oliver Burkeman Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Eternal Use code another10 for 10% off at checkout at eternal.co and book your performance physical today.

Episode 633: Krissy Gear on Confidence, Boundaries, and Showing Up When it Counts

Today on the podcast I’m talking with Krissy Gear — 2023 U.S. steeplechase champion, road mile champion, and fresh off a win at the NACAC steeplechase. She’s lining up for the Fifth Avenue Mile this weekend, so the timing of this conversation is perfect. I first met Krissy at the Sir Walter Mile in Raleigh, and I knew right away I wanted to have her on the show. She’s fun, curious, thoughtful, and one of the biggest cheerleaders for the people around her. In this conversation, Krissy opens up about her journey from Furman to Arkansas, how she found her way into the steeplechase, and what it’s been like to train on her own after leaving NAZ Elite. She talks candidly about navigating confidence, nerves, and the mental side of racing — plus what she’s learning about setting boundaries, keeping perspective, and building trust in herself. You’ll also hear some lighthearted stories — about her dog Miss Oat, her boyfriend Michael, running with her Flagstaff crew, and even playing Fortnite with friends. Krissy is genuine, honest, and refreshingly open about both the highs and the challenges of professional running. I know you’ll enjoy getting to know her just like I did. Topics Discussed: Miss Oat the dog and how having a dog in college shaped Krissy’s routine College experience during COVID and transitioning from Furman to Arkansas NACAC steeplechase win and what the small field was like Sir Walter Mile experience Relationship with her boyfriend (meeting story, running goals, Whole Foods job, RBF stereotype) Running history: pole vault beginnings, high school mile and state titles, progression to steeplechase Transition from NAZ Elite to training independently with Hayden Cox, contract structure, and HOKA details Mental side of racing: therapy, nerves vs. excitement, building confidence, and her sunflower timing quote Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order

Episode 632: US Marathon World Championships Women’s Team; Susanna Sullivan, Erika Kemp & Jess McClain

Hey friends! I’ve got such a fun episode for you today. I’m joined by all three women who will represent Team USA in the marathon at the World Championships in Tokyo — and the coolest part is that they’re all sponsored by Brooks. Erika Kemp, Jess McClain, and Susanna Sullivan are each incredible athletes and returning guests to the show, and it felt so special to have them all together before they line up in Tokyo. We talk about their training, how they’re preparing for this world stage, and what it means to them to wear the Team USA kit. All three women bring such unique stories to the table — Erika with her breakthrough in Houston, Jess coming off her 2:22 at Boston, and Susanna balancing teaching with elite training. Their PRs are all within a minute of each other, so it’ll be exciting to see how the race plays out and if they can run together. The women’s marathon takes place on September 14th — mark your calendars so you can cheer on Erika, Jess, and Susanna! I can’t wait to watch and celebrate these finish line moments with them. Now Rachel calls Williams, Arizona home, where she lives and trains. She’s also been second at the USA Mountain Championships, the USA Mountain Classic, and the USA Mountain Vertical Championship. Rachel brings so much positive energy and grit to the sport, and I can’t wait for you to hear more about her story, her training, and what’s ahead for her career. Episode 630: Sage Hurta-Klecker: Making Her First World Championships Team

I was so excited to have Sage Hurta-Klecker back on the show, this time fresh off making her first U.S. team in the 800 meters. This has been a long time coming for Sage, who’s been one of our top middle-distance runners in the U.S. for years and has been heartbreakingly close to making teams in the past. We talked all about that thrilling lean for third place at USAs, her mindset and tactics during the race, and how she handled the nerves and physical risks of running in such a tightly packed field. Sage shared what it meant to finally have that “checkmark” moment in her career, while still staying grounded in knowing her worth as an athlete beyond team selections. We got into the differences between the 800 and 1500 for her, why she’s excited to explore the 1500 more in the future, and how races like Sir Walter Miler have helped her bounce back from setbacks. She opened up about the emotional recovery from missing past teams, what her training looks like with teammates like Josette Andrews, her pacing experiences (including Faith Kipyegon’s world record), and how she’s preparing mentally and physically for Tokyo. It was such a fun, honest conversation, and I can’t wait to see what Sage does on the world stage. Topics Discussed: Making her first U.S. team in the 800 meters The lean at the line and race tactics at USAs Managing nerves and risk in crowded 800s Differences between racing the 800 and 1500 Training alongside teammates like Josette Andrews Pacing experience, including Faith Kipyegon’s world record Shifting focus toward the 1500 in the future Bouncing back from missing previous teams Mental and physical prep for the World Championships in Tokyo Support from family and what this moment means in her career Media Recommendations: Book: The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green Book: Paper Towns by John Green Book: Turtles All the Way Down by John Green TV Show: The Gilded Age (HBO Max) Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans! Episode 629: Lexy Halladay-Lowry – From NCAA Runner-Up to USATF Steeplechase Champion

What a thrill it was to watch Lexy Halladay-Lowry become your 2025 USA steeplechase champion this past weekend — and I’m so pumped to bring you this episode with her just days later. Lexy is fresh off a breakout season: she took second at NCAAs this spring while competing for BYU and is now officially Tokyo-bound to represent Team USA. She’s coached by Diljeet Taylor (who also coached her at BYU), and she’s already clocked a 9:08 steeple. In this episode, Lexy breaks down the entire race — how it unfolded, what was going through her head, and how it feels to make the U.S. team. We also talk about her progression in the event, her relationship with Coach Taylor, and what she’s most looking forward to this season. If you haven’t watched the race yet, I highly recommend pausing this and pulling it up — search 2025 USA steeplechase championships women’s final and enjoy watching Lexy totally crush it. Episode 628: Christina Henderson – Event Director at The Running Event

I loved getting the chance to sit down with Christina Henderson, the event director for The Running Event (TRE). If you’ve been paying attention to the run specialty world over the last few years, you’ve probably noticed how much buzz TRE has been getting, and Christina has been a huge part of that growth. TRE is North America’s premier conference and trade show for run and outdoor specialty retail. It’s a B2B event where retailers connect with brands, learn about new products, and have bigger conversations about the future of our industry. Christina has helped transform TRE into more than just a trade show – it’s become a community hub for meaningful conversations around business, culture, and shared values. Christina is also an incredible runner herself, with a marathon PR of 2:56. We talked about the generational shifts happening in the running retail space, the challenges the industry is facing, and how TRE continues to evolve to meet the moment. I left this conversation so inspired by Christina’s passion for this community and her vision for the future of our sport. I think you’ll really enjoy hearing her perspective and getting to know her better! Topics Covered:  Christina’s journey to becoming event director at TRE How she got her start in event planning and running-focused roles The evolution and growth of The Running Event over the past decade TRE’s role as more than just a trade show and its impact on the running industry Building community and supporting run specialty stores Emerging trends in run specialty retail and consumer behavior Success stories of brands like Hoka and Vuori that started small at TRE The importance of run clubs and community engagement for retailers The decision to move TRE from Austin to San Antonio Christina’s personal running background and love for the New York City Marathon Recommended books: Untamed by Glennon Doyle City of Thieves by David Benioff Support our Sponsors: Tailwind Nutrition Use code “Another20” at checkout BitchStick Go to Bitchstick.com and use the code “Lindsey” for 20% off your order Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans! Episode 627: Allie Ostrander: Steeplechase, Storytelling, and Owning Her Path

Allie Ostrander is back on the show, and this conversation was such a joy. Allie is one of the most multifaceted athletes I know—she’s a steeplechaser, trail runner, mountain runner, and content creator on YouTube, and she’s doing it all in a way that’s authentic to who she is. I admire how she’s leaned into the things that light her up instead of feeling boxed into one lane. We recorded this episode right before Allie raced the Stumptown Twilight meet, where she ran a 9:35 in the steeple—her fastest season opener yet—and took the win. She was tuning up for the U.S. Championships, and we talked about her mindset and training going into that race. We also looked back on her time at Boise State (three-time NCAA steeplechase champ!), her transition into the pro scene with the Brooks Beasts, and now her current chapter with Oiselle. I loved diving into how she balances training with her YouTube channel and how she uses her platform to speak openly about her experience with an eating disorder, aiming to help others coming up behind her. We also got into some fun stuff—like what shoes she’s into right now and her recent leap into longer distances, including her debut half marathon in 71:10. Allie is hilarious, honest, and such a strong voice in the running space. I’m always inspired by how she’s evolving and staying true to herself in the process. I know you’re going to love this one. Hey friends! I’m so excited to welcome back a longtime friend of the show, Colleen Quigley. Colleen is a 2016 Olympian in the steeplechase, a national champion, and one of the first professional runners I ever interviewed on the podcast! It’s been a while since we’ve caught up on the show, and Colleen has so much going on in this next phase of her career. In this episode, Colleen shares all about her newest venture: launching Meridia, a pro training group built by athletes, for athletes. We dive into why she started the team, what makes it unique, and how she’s approaching this next chapter in her running career. I love Colleen’s entrepreneurial spirit—she’s always been someone who thinks creatively about her path as an athlete, and you’ll hear that shine through in this conversation. We also talk about the Meridia Mile, a virtual one-mile race happening on August 9th. This is such a cool way to support Meridia as they get their team off the ground. She also talks about her continued partnership with Lululemon, her work with Runna, and how much she’s grown since first stepping on the professional running scene with Bowerman Track Club. This was such a fun catch-up, and I hope you enjoy hearing from Colleen as much as I loved chatting with her. If you do, it means so much if you leave a quick rating and review! Episode 625: Bailey Hertenstein – Going for the 5K World Standard this Weekend

Today on the show, I’m talking with Bailey Hertenstein! She’s a pro runner for Nike who has had such an exciting year making her debut on the pro scene. Bailey competed at Indiana University and then finished her collegiate career at Colorado—where she became a four-time All-American and placed fifth at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships. This past spring, she took second place at the USATF 5K Championships, finishing right between Josette Norris and Courtney Frerichs. Pretty incredible. She’s now coached by Pete Julian, lives and trains in Boulder, and is heading into the Sunset Tour in LA this weekend to chase that world standard in the 5K. In this conversation, we talk about what she’s learned transitioning to the pro world, how she’s built back confidence, what motivates her now, and how she’s grown both as an athlete and a teammate. She also opens up about the hard stuff—leaving Indiana on bad terms, navigating team dynamics, and what it’s taken to move forward. I loved this conversation with Bailey. She’s sharp, driven, honest, and someone I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the years to come. Make sure to go follow Bailey on Instagram at @baileyh_. Topics we discussed: Transition from IU to CU Owning past mistakes and personal growth Choosing to transfer to CU Signing with Nike and staying in Boulder Adjusting to the pro running world Imposter syndrome and mental challenges Breakthrough race at USATF 5K Champs First 10K experiences (track + Mini 10K) Final message on character and kindness Support our sponsors: Shokz Use code “ANOTHER” at checkout for a discount on your order Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Geist Half Race Series Go to geisthalf.com and use the code “Another10” for $10 off any race distances. Episode 624: Rachel Entrekin – Two-Time Cocodona 250 Champion & Course Record Holder

Hey friends! Welcome to I’ll Have Another — I’m so glad you’re here. Today I’m talking with Rachel Entrekin, the 2025 Cocodona 250 champion AND course record holder! She ran 63 hours, 58 minutes, and 15 seconds this year to not only win but also break 70 hours for the first time in the race’s history. She’s now a two-time winner, and the first person to win Cocodona back-to-back. In this conversation, we get into Rachel’s story — her love for the trails, her life in Colorado, her work as a physical therapist, and how she’s built the strength (mentally and physically!) to take on 250+ mile races. I was blown away by her passion and the way she approaches this sport with such joy and reverence. She’s been called the Queen of Cocodona — and honestly, that title fits perfectly. Another amazing stat? She finished fourth overall this year — up from 11th overall in 2024 — taking 10 hours off her time from last year. Just incredible. This episode is a reminder of how cool running is. From 100-meter sprinters to ultrarunners covering hundreds of miles, there’s room for everyone in this sport. Episode 623: Behind the Mic with Dominic Schlueter of The Running Effect

Hey friends! I’m so excited to bring you the another episode in the Behind the Mic series today — I’ve loved hearing your feedback on this series, and it’s been such a joy connecting with other podcasters who love this space as much as I do. Today’s guest is someone I’ve been incredibly inspired by: Dominic Schlueter, the host of The Running Effect podcast. Dominic started his podcast back in July 2020 — and get this — he was only 15 years old at the time. I actually looked back through some old emails and found pitches from him from over five years ago asking me to be a guest on his show! He just turned 20, and his growth and hustle are next-level. In 2023, he became the youngest person ever to land on Spotify’s podcast charts. Dominic is incredibly well-researched, thoughtful, and passionate about our sport. He’s had everyone from elite athletes to a member of Congress on the show. He recently interviewed Aleksander Piotr Lingauer, who ran 61 marathons in 61 days with just a backpack — the kind of story that makes you stop and reflect on what it means to chase something real. That’s what The Running Effect is all about: inspiring people to turn their what ifs into reality. Dominic is also putting in the work behind the scenes — he’s been on-site at events like the the Brooks PR Invitational and he’s consistently putting out high-quality content (we’re talking two Instagram posts a day!). I’m excited to see where this journey takes him. Let me know if you’re enjoying this series! You can email me at [email protected], leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (and shout out your favorite guest!), or share the episode on social. Episode 622: Erika Kemp – Making Her First World Champs Team & Joining the Relay Podcast

Hey friends! I’m so excited to bring you this conversation with Erika Kemp on the podcast this week. Erika is a two-time U.S. Champion (15K and 20K), a marathoner who ran a 2:22 in Houston earlier this year, and—most recently—a first-time World Championships team member. She’s also the newest co-host on the Relay podcast team, which I’m thrilled about! Erika has been on the show twice before—once in 2021 when she was chasing the Olympic standard with the BAA, and again in 2023 when she was building toward her Boston Marathon debut. In that race, she made history, running the fastest marathon ever by an American-born Black woman. In this episode, we talk about the evolution of her marathon career—how she shaved over 10 minutes off her Boston time in less than a year—and what that Houston race actually felt like behind the scenes. Erika shares how she’s approached training and racing under her coach Kurt Benninger (Molly Huddle’s husband!), her experience making her first World Champs team, and what it means to her to be a mentor and voice for representation in distance running. Episode 620: Allie Wilson – Olympian 800m Runner Breaks the News About Her New Coach!

Hey friends! I am so excited to welcome Allie Wilson to the show. She’s someone I’ve wanted to have on for a long time, and I just knew this conversation would be a great one — and it totally delivered. Allie is an 800m specialist and became an Olympian last year when she placed second at the U.S. Olympic Trials and competed in Paris in the 800. She’s also represented Team USA at the World Indoor Championships and is the 2024 U.S. Indoor Champion in the 800. Her resume is seriously impressive, but beyond all that, she’s just a joy to talk to. In this episode, we talk about her journey to the Olympics, the transition she made from soccer to track, her time training with the Atlanta Track Club under Amy and Andrew Begley, and the coaching change she’s making now — which she shares here! Allie has recently moved back to New Jersey and is taking a new approach with her training, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings. She also shares a bit about racing the 1500 more in the future, her mindset in training and competition, and how she’s grown through the ups and downs of elite running. I absolutely loved this conversation and think you will too. If you’re enjoying the podcast, it means so much if you leave a quick rating or review wherever you listen — or support the show on Patreon for ad-free episodes and bonus content (pareton.com/lindseyhein). Episode 619: Behind the Mic with The PR Project

Hey friends! This episode of the Behind the Mic series is such a fun one. I got to sit down with my friends Tommie, Aaron, Gary from the PR Project — a running-focused media crew that’s all about amplifying culture, community, and conversation in the run space. You may know Tommie from the Relay podcast, which I also co-host, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him over the years. He brings such a creative energy to everything he does, and this whole PR Project is a great example of that. Two years ago, Tommie pitched the idea of bringing the PR Project to The Running Event (TRE) to do live interviews with athletes and brands — and it’s been growing ever since. Tommie and Gary are both sub-3 marathoners, and Aaron is chasing down that same goal, so you know there’s plenty of passion and drive here. But beyond the stats, this is just a super casual conversation among friends — a look behind the scenes at what they’re building, how they approach content creation in the running space, and what it’s like to grow something from the ground up. Right now, they’re gearing up for their Summer of Speed series, which is sponsored by Puma, and I’m so excited to see what they do with it. Hope you enjoy listening in on this one! Episode 617: Behind the Mic with Jason Fitzgerald

Hey friends! We’re back with another episode of the Behind the Mic series, and I’m so excited to bring you this conversation with Jason Fitzgerald. Jason is the founder of Strength Running and the host of the Strength Running Podcast—one of the longest-running and most respected running podcasts out there. Jason has helped so many runners of all levels chase down big goals, and one of his biggest focuses is helping people become well-rounded, injury-resistant athletes through strength training and smart programming. He also offers mental training courses and resources that go beyond the physical side of the sport. We talk about his journey into podcasting and coaching, what it’s like to be a content creator in the running world, and the values that guide the way he shows up for his audience. He shares about his background as a 2:39 marathoner, some of his favorite interviews, and yes—we get into his “Jesus Take the Wheel 5K” strategy, which had me cracking up. Before we recorded this episode, I actually listened to his most recent episode on The Strength Running Podcast all about creatine, featuring Brady Holmer. If you’ve been curious about creatine—what it does, how to take it, whether it’s worth the hype—I can’t recommend that episode enough. It’s super informative but also really easy to understand, and I even found myself rewinding to catch all the nuggets. Highly recommend checking that one out after this episode! Jason is smart, thoughtful, and has a really genuine presence in this space. I loved this conversation and I think you will too. And as always, if you’re loving the show, leaving a quick rating or review goes a long way—or you can support us on Patreon for as little as $3 a month at patreon.com/lindseyhein and you’ll get all of the episodes AD FREE! Thanks so much for being here! Enjoy my conversation with Jason Fitzgerald. What we talked about: 7:45- Jason’s history in running and podcasting 18:05- Injury prevention and rehab 32:00- Translatting marathon training to 5k fitness 40:20- The mental side of training 58:00- How his own running training has changed over the years 1:03:30- What Jason still wants to learn in the sport 1:14:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: Book recommendations: Range by David Epstein The Wolf of Walstreet Strong Men Sapien The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists Why We Run The 4-Hour Workweek Tools of Titans Support our Sponsors!! Episode 616: Live at Bayshore with Dakotah Lindwurm Popehn

Dakotah Lindwurm is one of the most beloved runners of our time. It’s been so incredible to watch her grow in her career over the last several years. Seeing her make her first Olympic team in 2024 was something we all celebrated. Dakotah placed 12th at the Olympics in Paris in the marathon and continues to compete with as much enthusiasm as she did all those years ago when she bet on herself and gave being a professional runner a shot. Her journey to becoming an Olympian is a bit unconventional. She ran at a DII school, wasn’t recruited to run pro but applied for a grant and started training hard. She placed 36th at the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials – making quite the jump in 2024 to 3rd. Over the years she’s won the Grandma’s Marathon twice and has a marathon PR of 2:24:40 which she ran at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. So much to celebrate and so much to look forward to! Thank you to the Bayshore Marathon and The Traverse City Track Club for having both Dakotah and I out for this event! It was so special to be a part of it for the second year!  Sponsors: Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus BitchStick Go to Bitchstick.com and use the code “Lindsey” for 20% off your order

Episode 615: Allie Buchalski on Trusting the Process, Sports Psychology, and Running with the Brooks Beasts

Hey friends! I’m so excited to share this conversation with Allie Buchalski with you. Allie runs professionally for the Brooks Beasts, focusing on the 5,000 meters, and she’s someone I’ve wanted to have on the show for a long time. She’s incredibly down-to-earth, has a great sense of humor, and brings a thoughtful perspective to racing and training. Allie ran for Furman University, where she finished second at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5K. Right out of college, she signed with Brooks, and she just re-signed with them, continuing her training under coach Danny Mackey in Seattle. She recently placed fifth—just milliseconds out of fourth—at the USATF 5K Road Championships in Indianapolis, and we recorded this episode shortly after that race. Our conversation ended up being even more reflective and grounded than what we originally planned to chat about in person. We talk about how working with a sports psychologist has shifted her mindset in racing and how that’s changed her career trajectory. Allie opens up about her love for basketball, growing up in Georgia, and the unique way she approaches racing with both intensity and joy. She also shares a bit about her goals for this season and what it means to her to represent Brooks and compete at a high level. This was one of the easiest and most natural interviews I’ve ever recorded, and I can’t wait for you to hear it! Thanks for being here, and if you enjoy the episode, please consider leaving a rating and review or joining us over on Patreon to support the show. Happy listening! What we talked about: 5:00- Her race in Indianapolis at the US 5k Champs 14:00- Her mom’s diagnosis with cancer 21:10- What’s next on Allie’s racing calendar 22:05- Growing up and finding her passion and drive in sports 27:45- Running for Furman University 35:00- The decision to sign with Brooks Beasts 50:00- Focus on nutrition 57:40- Looking ahead to USAs 1:05:00- Working with a sports psychologist 1:11:00- Celebrating the small wins 1:13:00- Hobbies outside of running 1:18:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: The Book of Thorns Heart of a Husky Running For My Life Think Like a Champion Connect with Lindsey:  Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order

Episode 614: Behind the Mic with Matt Chittim of the Rambling Runner

Today on the show, I’m talking with my good friend, Matt Chittim. Matt is the host of the Rambling Runner Podcast—a longtime favorite where he highlights amateur athletes and occasionally brings pros on as well. You might also know him from his Road to the Trials series, which was hugely popular and so fun to follow. Matt and I have really grown up in the podcasting space together, and he’s truly one of my biggest cheerleaders. But honestly? He’s that person for so many in this space—he supports and uplifts others in such a genuine way, and it’s just who he is. He’s also the brains behind Relay, the podcast I co-host with an incredible group of people in the running world. Matt dreamed it up, pitched us all on the idea, and brought it to life with so much heart. I’m proud to be part of it and grateful that he brought me along for the ride. Outside of podcasting, Matt is a dad of two, a former college fundraiser, and a true sports enthusiast—not just running, but across the board. I always love our conversations about other sports, too. In this episode, we get into all of that—his path into podcasting, building a community, what drives him, and what he’s dreaming up next. I hope you enjoy it—and if you do, it would mean a lot if you left a quick rating and review. And of course, be sure to check out Matt’s show, The Rambling Runner, and follow him over on Instagram at @rambling_runner. All right, let’s get to it. Please enjoy my conversation with Matt Chittim.
