It’s an episode of extremes today, girls. PJ has been recovering from the worst hangover of his life after taking some bad drinking advice from an evil twink. Meanwhile, Kevin’s been to watch his pal run the Hoka Hackney Half Marathon, and he can’t get over how supportive and wholesome the vibes are. And how hot the lads are. For the theme this week, the boys are breaking into the Khia Asylum: the fictional pop star purgatory manned by the Bebe Rexha’s and Ava Max’s of the world. They wonder what it takes for a pop girl to get stuck there, how they can break free, and whether Mickey Joe Harte deserves a cell. Kevin and PJ are riding high from the response to their Sky ad with Roy Keane this week; the family group chats have never been busier and the mams have never been prouder! Speaking of sports, they’re obsessed with the new Cork City Pride jerseys and how impactful they’ll be for queer people in sports. Inspired by their recent episode about intelligence, the lads are talking all about moments of stupidity. The listeners have sent in stories of the stupidest thing they’ve ever done or thought, and girlies… ye didn’t disappoint! From fruit towns with fruit people to real-life black markets, the lads are absolutely howling at some of the blonde moments confessed this week.Purchase Happy Campers Tour Tickets here 🎟️ Sign up to the I'm Grand Mam Patreon for more stunning content ✨ Hosted on Acast. Kevin is singing the praises of home makeover TV shows to a skeptical PJ this week, and the lads are inspired to think about their dream homes as kids (and adults, to be honest): secret doors and beds shaped like cars, anyone? Speaking of kids, that’s the theme for this week: the boys are unpacking how attitudes to having kids have changed, why the right wingers are obsessed with making women have babies, and wondering who on earth is having sex with Elon Musk? They’re also unpacking whether they want kids themselves, or if the DINK/SINK life is just too appealing. Sickness has hit I’m Grand Mam towers this week, after a run of Irish tour dates and a busy period for the lads. Kevin is gearing up for this birthday, and the boys are addressing the allegations that their Cork accents are all for show; you got them, gals! The theme for this week is intelligence. As the old adage goes, you can’t judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, so Kevin and PJ are unpacking what it means to be clever. They talk through the different types of intelligence, how street smarts are just as valuable as Leaving Cert results and how being funny is the smartest thing you can be. Another busy week for the lads as they’ve been filming a top secret project and continuing the Irish leg of the tour. Kevin’s been crying (beautifully), PJ found his missing necklace with the help of Nuala and St. Anthony, and the PTs have been blowing up the DMs. This week the theme is child stars, and PJ and Kevin are counting their lucky stars that they didn’t make it in showbiz as children. From Shirley Temple to Judy Garland to the Disney and Nickelodeon kids, child stardom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; in fact, it seems to be downright dangerous. ‘Tis all go, girlies! The lads have been busy with touring, work commitments and buzzing social lives: so busy that Kevin has had to colour-code his Google cal. PJ was at his nephew’s confirmation this week, and was shocked to discover that kids aren’t getting slapped by the bishops as part of the ceremony any more. He’s even more shocked to learn that this was actually never common practice, and concludes that it must have been exclusive to the northside of Cork. This week, the topic is sequels, prequels and remakes. With the Devil Wear’s Prada 2 coming out soon, Kevin and PJ are wondering why every movie that’s released these days seems to be a sequel or a remake of a beloved classic. They talk about the best sequels of all time (Shrek 2, anyone?), movies they’d love to see remade, and pick their favourites from the High School Musical trilogy. Kevin’s keen to learn to drive, but with the fuel protests across Ireland this week, he’s not sure how useful it would be. The lads stand with the farmers, obviously, even if it did take PJ 5 hours to get from Cork to Dublin for Jordan’s wedding. Speaking of Jordan’s wedding, we find out more about PJ's antics on the stag, and why the wives and girlfriends at the wedding were fuming with him. The theme for this week is luck; the ‘lucky girl’ aesthetic is all the rage right now, so the lads have been wondering how much of luck is mindset, and whether they believe in lucky traditions and superstitions. The lads have absolutely had it with April Fool’s Day antics on social media, and think it’s about time we put a stop to it. In better news, this week Kevin’s family have been celebrating his brother’s engagement, which leads them to talk about the general mortification of Irish people doing… well, anything. The theme for this week is teenage discos, and we’re throwing it back to a time laden with the scent of hairspray and Lynx Africa. It might be a rite of passage, but the teenage disco brought with it a whole lot of anxiety and pressure to fit in socially. The boys hear wild submissions from the listeners, covering everything from the best way to sneak vodka into to the disco, and the girlies kissing record numbers of boys in one night. Kevin is on a crusade against culinary trends this week, and matcha and hot honey on pizza are in the firing line. PJ’s heartbroken that he failed his NCT (mainly because he chickened out of leaving a bribe in the glovebox), even though he’s loving booting around Cork in the car.The speed of the drive from the northside to the southside even inspires the lads to call for unification of the two sides of the river in The Rebel City. The theme for this week is inventions, and the boys are unpacking some of the most influential inventions of all time. They’re also talking about inventions that we thought would take off but didn’t (3D glasses anyone?) and pitching some iconic ideas of their own. The lads are buzzing after their first tour date, despite PJ losing his voice on stage and having had a gang of firemen round his gaff responding to a faulty carbon monoxide alarm. Meanwhile Kevin is lamenting the fact that Carmit has been excluded from the Pussycat Dolls reunion tour, but decides that if Kimberley can get her leg above her head and do her famous tilt, all will be forgiven. For the theme this week, the boys are talking all about family feuds. From the Dunnes Stores saga to the world’s most famous elevator ride, we know that no family is immune to drama. Kevin and PJ have been in their best goth drag this week, and they can’t stop thinking about how hot they both looked in black eyeliner! Getting their makeup done makes them think back on their experiences with stage makeup as children, and they also start planning a charity drag night: watch this space, girlies! For the theme, inspired by their upcoming Happy Campers shows, the lads are discussing all things tours: tour life, venue choices and the highest grossing tours of all time. From Taylor Swift to Coldplay, they can’t help but wonder what these artists are doing with all the millions and billions of bobs they’re making from touring the world. Kevin’s had enough of PJ’s journey of enlightenment and self-improvement, which isn’t helped by PJ telling us all about his day farming and learning to grow his own veg in Wicklow. In other news, Kevin has had his now infamous polyp removed, and luckily his anaesthetist was fairly easy on the eyes, girls. For the theme, the lads are discussing personality tests, specifically the Enneagram (which we now know has nothing to do with Scientology: phew!). Inspired by Amy Poehler and her Enneagram obsession, they take the quiz to uncover what personality type they are, and what traits they have in common. The lads are buzzing after their second appearance on the Late Late Show, and not even the abysmal Facebook comments can bring them down! They laugh at some of the worst ones, while also acknowledging the loyal girlies who always have their backs. They then turn their attention to the mortal enemy of healthy gut microbiome everywhere: the airport sandwich. Inspired by Bad Bunny’s recent Super Bowl performance, the theme for this week is celebrity activism. The boys discuss some of the celebrities who have advocated for causes throughout their careers, and wonder whether we expect too much from our pop culture figures. The boys also discuss all the tea from the new America’s Next Top Model documentary, including Tyra attempting to gaslight us all in her now infamous trenchcoat. In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th, the lads are talking all about their favourite people: the girlies! The theme for this week is feminism, so Kevin has an excuse to talk about the ultimate feminist queen, Lisa Simpson, as well as the connection that gay men have to the women in their lives. They also discuss some of Ireland’s most impactful feminist icons and unpack common feminist stereotypes. WHO RUN THE WORLD? GIRLS! This week Kevin enters his glasses era after discovering he has astigmatism and the lads spend a significant amount of time unpacking what this means for him personally, professionally and spiritually. While the realisation has shaken him slightly, mainly because it has forced him to confront the fact that youth is perhaps not as close as it once was, there are upsides. Chief among them is the discovery that wearing glasses may actually improve his flirting success rate. For the theme, Kevin and PJ dive into dating horror stories. From a girl whose date casually drove off in her car for twenty minutes leaving her stranded on a country road, to a man who spent an entire date aggressively eating wedges with greasy hands and an alarming number of ketchup sachets, the lads weigh in on the red flags, the survival tactics and the lessons learned.Purchase Happy Campers Tour Tickets here 🎟️ Sign up to the I'm Grand Mam Patreon for more stunning content ✨ Hosted on Acast. The lads take a trip down memory lane, reflecting on the highs, the lows and everything in between that’s happened since they first hit record. From chaotic early episodes to the milestones they never saw coming, it’s a proper sentimental moment… well, as sentimental as they allow themselves to be. Producer Sadhbh has also done some investigative work and listened back to the first five episodes, arriving with notes and a few pointed questions to see whether the boys still stand by some of the opinions they confidently shared seven years ago. They also discuss PJ’s grooming habits, and Kevin sings “boots, that’s my ego boost” approximately 704 times. Then for the theme, the boys are covering something near and dear to their hearts: the TV talent show. They reminisce on everything from Cher Lloyd’s iconic Halloween cover of Stay, to Ireland’s best talent show, You’re A Star. Just an average day at I’m Grand Mam HQ!For the theme, inspired slightly by Heated Rivalry, they dive into double lives. Prompted by this episode coming out on Blue Monday the lads have a discussion about made up holidays and ask why January is such a depressing month and Kevin puts forward a bid for dry January to be changed to a dry November going forward because the month is already horrendous enough as it is. He also has a gripe to air about retail websites that promise ten percent off if you sign up to their newsletter, only to withhold the discount code for a full twenty-four hours, long after the impulse to buy has died.Because the lads feel there is far too much pressure to have a picture-perfect Christmas, they invite listeners to send in their own festive disasters. PJ is back on his yoga buzz which Kevin isn't too pleased with as he doesn't want PJ to become more flexible than he is. As it's September and kids have gone back to school Kevin and PJ read out submissions from teachers to see if there's anything they'd like to get off their chests. It's been one whole year since PJ and Jose Kirby Galang tied the knot down in Inis Beg and to mark the anniversary the boys ventured down to West Cork to the island where they married to plant a tree and Kevin questions whether they will be able to last another year or not. They explore magic as the theme and Kevin recalls seeing a magician for the first time on board Brittany Ferries on a trip to Roscoff and decides to add Brittany Ferry to his list of potential drag names and PJ shares stories about his chaotic imaginary friend from his childhood. Girlies, this week Kevin and PJ are joined by international popstar and Sunday roast enthusiast JADE! During the episode, the lads finally settle their ongoing beef with JADE over the use of the title “That’s Showbiz” once and for all, before diving into a chat about the music industry, her LGBTQ+ advocacy and even her secret talent for Sudoku. Once the boys earned her trust, they managed to get JADE to agree to feature on their next single “Let’s Douche”—an activity she would apparently like to witness, should there be any volunteers. While everyone waits for that bop to drop, listeners must brace themselves for JADE’s debut solo album “THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY!” releasing on September 12th. The record is packed with iconic lyrics that fans can steal for their Grindr bios, and it’s already available to pre-order at shop.jadeofficial.com. JADE has also announced her tour, which kicks off in Dublin this October because, understandably, she’s obsessed with the Irish. Influenced by Kevin who was the first person to go on holidays to Malta ever, PJ took a trip there recently with his friend Layla who had her clit out on a catamaran and PJ tells us all about it. Then, prompted by the chaotic American Eagle campaign with Sydney Sweeney and the even more ridiculous ELF campaign with Matt Rife the lads talk about the weird, wonderful and woeful world of advertising. They go through some copy lines and decide whether they are real ads or simply fads and recall their favourite jingles from adverts back in the day; WiMAX man you will always be famous. PJ had the best time on a recent trip to Waterford but thinks the town might be hiding a dark secret because there were no adults present only teens (though they were doing a bang up job and they ran a tight ship). As PJ is still riding off the high of passing his driving test the lads decide to do a submissions episode based around chaotic car stories. We hear about a driving instructor with a creepy long nail that he used to scratch students with when mistakes were made and a lesbian who risked her life in a Fiat 500 in the middle of the French countryside that has the lads wanting to have the story made into an A24 film. The lads kick the episode off by reading out some comments they received from very angry men on Instagram and TikTok and make a plea to the girlies to go and give their dad a hug because the men of Ireland are obviously shooketh. PJ details an encounter with a chaotic B&B owner on a trip to Scotland for his friend's wedding before the boys dive into an episode about celebrity deaths. Both of the lads are in agreement that if they were to pass that people are to only use recent photos that have featured on their Instagram pages when doing the obituary and tagged photos are off limits. Thank you for respecting their wishes. Kevin had a 360 moment this week as he went to see Oliver on the West End and PJ questions whether it was actually a 360 moment and Kevin retorts that Dua Lipa confused him by saying 'Did a fully 180, baby' because 180 is only a half turn. Ultimate confusion. Then the lads discuss a topic that they've wanted to discuss for ages and kind of already have been discussing in part in previous episodes, especially since they watched Dream Academy on Netflix and it's the iconic world of K-pop. From trainees to debuts, icons to a bias, the lads break it all down and leave no light-stick unturned when delving into South Korea's most lucrative export. PJ is over the moon as he has just passed his driving test and is now a fully licensed diva. Kevin nearly tips him over the edge emotionally as he surprises him with a thoughtful gift to celebrate the achievement. The theme for the week is inner child and the lads discuss the rise of toys like Labubus, Jellycats and Sonny Angels and whether they're an indicator that people are looking for a playful escape or are looking to heal a past trauma. They also agree that one of the best things about moving away from home is being able to buy whatever cereal you want in the shop and eating it at any tine of day. Kevin's absolutely mortified as he's been away on another holiday and he doesn't want people to think he's all notions but he says it's a holiday he couldn't miss as it was the first one with his niece and core memories were made on that trip. The trip reminded him how much he loves Spanish radio which prompts PJ to have a moment of realisation about the pronunciation of a certain Spanish phrase. The theme for the week is chaotic coworkers and the lads read out submissions of people in the workplace who've been acting a bit bonkers. The boys had the most amazing trip to Portugal and can't wait to tell you all about it including a spur of the moment date with a boy from The Lebanon which involved fish bones being removed from teeth and a lot of hills. They choose alternative festivals as the theme for the week and spend most of the time discussing the ploughing championships because they'd really love to go to judge the brown bread making competition and Kevin would love to find a farmer for himself. It's the 200th episode and the boys can't believe it. What started out as a a fun project that the lads started at their kitchen table six years ago has grown into something that they could never have imagined with a whole community of girlies around the world listening. To celebrate they did a call out for the 'Greatest Girlie Going' - I'm Grand Mam's biggest fan and they selected Sarah from Kinsale in Cork. The boys invited her and her mam to come to London for an all expenses paid trip and they had a scream and then had the chats with Sarah in this episode. Their producer Sadhbh also came along to join in the celebrations and she also has a special surprise for Kevin and PJ to mark this milestone episode. In this episode Kevin addresses the bald rumours after receiving a chaotic Instagram message which leaves the boys with many questions including 'who the heck is Jolene?'. The theme for the week is recession indicators resulting in a heated exchange between Kevin and PJ over the ranking of different forms of potatoes. The episode starts off with a rant about restaurants who only serve one slice of toast with a breakfast like what's the story there. And don't even get the lads started about the fact that your standard breakfast these days doesn't even include tea or coffee. The lads then talk about the weather as the theme and though they've been told in their research notes that Finland has been voted the happiest place to live for the 8th year in a row despite little hours of sunshine, they struggle to accept it as they don't know anyone from Finland and deduce that they must make a trip there to try the theory out for themselves.
