Alternative Healing: Energy Medicine, Trapped Emotions and The Subconscious Mind. With Dr. Bradley Nelson

In this episode, I sit down with holistic chiropractor, Dr. Bradley Nelson to explore the connection between trapped emotions, chronic healing and what he refers to as subconscious healing and the energetic intelligence of the body. He shares his own personal healing story that inspired his interest in energy healing, and then dives into the philosophy behind his books, the Emotion Code, The Body Code and the Heart Code. His belief is that unresolved emotional energy can wreak havoc on our bodies…causing what he believes are heart walls that block love and connection. This one is for you if you believe in the power of prayer and your subconscious mind. It may be controversial for some…but see what you think. He unpacks how subconscious patterns may influence healing, why symptoms can be messages instead of problems to suppress, and how practices like kinesiology, energy medicine, and emotional release try to help people reconnect with their bodies’ innate wisdom.Resource: discoverhealing.comNext, Check out choosemuse.com when you have a minute and learn more about how the brain sensing headband can transform your brain's potential and get 15% off Muse with code UNTANGLE15.  See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Why Forgiveness is an Act of Self Compassion. With Diana Winston

Today’s encore episode is with Diana Winston, the Director of UCLA Mindful, Keynote Speaker, Consultant and Author of The Little Book of Being: Practices and Guidance for Uncovering your Natural Awareness. In this interview, we talk about the importance of forgiveness in our lives and why carrying our anger or resentment around with us is like carrying hot coal. Dropping the hot coal gives us more freedom, openness, and joy. It doesn’t mean we have to condone or forget, but it is truly an act of self-compassion.The practices she shares are both practical and powerful. The first step, she says, is to have the willingness to even start working on forgiveness — whether it’s forgiving another person, asking another person to forgive you OR forgiving yourself. None of this is easybut it can make a big difference in our own health and ease. Letting go of these difficult feelings is a great way to shift your mindset and build your capacity to focus on the things that really matter. Resource: dianawinston.comAs always, we're grateful to our sponsors Quince, Strawberry.me, Welleco, Born Shoes. Check out Choosemuse.com and use code Untangle15 for your discount.  See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Burnout Recovery Tools: Reduce Stress and Build More Joy In Your Life. With Amy Leneker.

Today's guest is Amy Leneker, Author of Cheers to Monday, The Surprisingly Simple Method to Lead and Live with Less Stress and More Joy. Amy is refreshing, joyful —and deeply practical—in this conversation about stress, burnout, and how to stop living your workweek as a countdown to Friday. My favorite quote? Make more space for joy. Amy shares the wake-up call that changed everything for her, and became her personal turning point. She takes us through the heart of her approach, the Unstressing Method—which includes See, Sort, and Solve—a simple framework designed to help people identify what’s driving their stress, categorize it into actionable types, and choose a clear next step instead of spiraling into overthinking. Something we all know very well. The conversation also tackles why common workplace “solutions” can backfire and how leaders can create cultures of well-being where people feel safe, connected, and able to grow. This all applies to families, as well as the workplace. Most importantly, Amy makes a compelling case for putting joy back on the calendar—not as fluff or denial, but as a real resilience tool. If you’ve ever felt stuck in overwork, people-pleasing, or constant urgency, this episode offers concrete tools to help you reset how you work, lead, and live—starting with Monday.Resource: Amyleneker.comA special thank you to our amazing sponsors: Quince, Rula, Welleco, Strawberry.me, Fabletics. Today’s guest is James Kimmel Jr., a former litigator of 20 years, currently Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale school of Medicine and Author of the book we discuss today called The Science of Revenge: Understanding the World’s Deadliest Addiction—and How to Overcome It (2025).Here’s the question: What if revenge actually works like a drug—lighting up the brain’s reward system and keeping us stuck in cravings for payback? In this episode we talk about the neuroscience of revenge and why it can become compulsive, engaging similar reward pathways to those associated with craving and addiction. James tells the personal story that launched his life’s work—years of bullying, a devastating loss, and a split-second decision that changed everything. Forget Traditional Doctrines! A Skeptical Buddhist Shares his Practical Philosophy. With Stephen Batchelor

Throwback Thursday Encore: I listened to Ezra Kleins NY Times Opinion podcast the other day as Ezra interviewed one of my favorite Buddhist authors, Stephen Batchelor. It reminded me that I’d interviewed Stephen in 2016 and loved chatting with him. His philosophy is timeless, so I thought I’d encore it today. Stephen is a Scottish Buddhist teacher and Author known for his secular or agnostic approach to Buddhism. His focus is on experience, ethics, and human flourishing over traditional doctrines like karma and rebirth. He was previously a monk in the Tibetan and Zen traditions before developing a more skeptical, and pragmatic buddhist approach, detailed in his earlier books like Buddhism Without Beliefs and Confessions of a Buddhist Atheist. His current book is called Buddha, Socrates, and Us: Ethical Living in Uncertain Times. We don’t cover this here since our interview is from 2016…but I’m looking forward to reading the new book. As always, Check out Muse the brain sensing headband. What Does it Mean to Live a Good, Meaningful Life? Despite the (really) Hard Stuff. With Kieran Setiya.

Wow…I loved talking to today’s guest, Kieran Setiya, an Author and Professor of philosophy at MIT. I’ve always loved philosophy, but I was especially taken with the way Kieran applies it to our most challenging events, as well as to our day to day lives. In his book Life Is Hard, How Philosophy Can Help Us Find Our Way — he offers us a roadmap for navigating rough terrain, from personal trauma to loneliness to grief to failure and the myth of the ideal life to injustice and even the absurdity of the world. It’s hard to summarize this discussion because there’s so much here, but his wisdom is rich with guidance on how we can face suffering and life’s inevitable hardships. He’s so eloquent in how he shares his insights on life >> from his rich archive of philosophy to his own personal journey. Life is a collection of small successes and small failures. And A good life, he says, is a way of living every day, DESPITE the hard stuff. He inspired me to reflect on quite a bit here. How do I live well, what makes a life meaningful, how do I face regret, aging, uncertainty…even what should I hope for given where I am in my own life. He was originally inspired to philosophy by his own sense of wonder and undertow of worry at 7 yrs old. I love that…a blend of worry and wonder, anxiety and awe. How perfectly true!!Kieran is also the author of Midlife: A Philosophical Guide. His writing has appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, The New York Times, the Boston Review, the London Review of Books, The Atlantic, and The Yale Review. As always, we’re Untangle, the podcast from Muse, the brain sensing headband dedicated to unlocking your brains potential. The Joy Reset: Rewiring our Brains and Discovering our Capacity to Cultivate Joy. With Dr. MaryCatherine McDonald

Our guest today is Dr. MaryCatherine McDonald, Trauma researcher and Author of the book, "The Joy Reset: Six Ways Trauma Steals Happiness and How to Get It Back.” Her book isn’t just about finding joy; it’s about rewiring our brains and rediscovering our power to cultivate joy EVEN in the darkest moments of life. She describes the barriers that keep us from accessing joy—hypervigilance, emotional numbing, fear of loss, conditioning, guilt, and shame—and then defines ways to tap into positive emotions that can become the very foundation of psychological resilience. In our interview she shares some exercises that make joy, hope and gratitude both bite-sized and accessible and how they can show up even in our toughest moments.I love how she weaves neuroscience into her exploration of trauma and joy, explaining how our brains are biologically wired to both adapt to trauma and heal from it. And…good news…we ARE always biologically capable of joy. Quote from her website: "Joy does not exist only in the moments that are free of pain. In fact, the brightest, tiniest, most important pieces can only be found in the dark. I want to teach you how to harness and amplify the power of that glinting magic–because this sustainable, endless light source will do more than help you get through your darkest, scariest, loneliest times."As always, we’re untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform your brain. Wisdom From the Grandmother of Animal Communication (Fan Favorite!) With Penelope Smith

Today’s guest is the amazing Penelope Smith…known joyfully as the grandmother of animal communication. She’s a founder and trailblazer in the field of interspecies telepathic communication and the author of classic books in the field, including Animal Talk, When Animals Speak and Animals in Spirit. She has a vast body of work and educational materials on the topic. In this interview, she shares her own journey to becoming an animal communicator, which actually came quite naturally to her, as well as many personal stories. I know some people will find this topic a bit woo woo, but you’ll be surprised how authentic and natural her philosophy and methods feel. In fact, I started practicing with my dog, Milo, right after this interview. We’re working on it! Penelope believes all of us have the ability to communicate with other species. Her approach emphasizes treating animals as spiritual beings — intelligent, feeling entities with souls. Makes sense! I wondered if all animals are even interested in telepathically communicating with humans ;-)  We may be the kooky ones. Anyway…It’s a fun, fascinating conversation. Transform Your LIfe: Break Free From The Limiting Patterns That Are Keeping You Stuck. With Michelle Chalfant.

Today’s guest is Michelle Chalfant, Author of the book The Adult Chair, Get Unstuck, Claim Your Power and Transform Your Life. She’s also a therapist and created the Adult Chair Model, where she combines psychology and grounded spirituality to inspire personal transformation. In this discussion, we explore the metaphor of life stages represented by chairs. Michelle shares her unique perspective on how the child, adolescent, and adult chairs symbolize our developmental journey. She delves into the significance of each stage, the unconscious beliefs formed in childhood and the impact of our childhood development on shaping our adult behaviors. The child chair, she says, lays the foundation or our initial road map; next comes the adolescent chair — the phase where our ego develops survival strategies based on our childhood; and then the adult chair, which ideally represents the stage of a healthy adult, generally starting around age twenty-five when the prefrontal cortex is developed. Living in the adult chair is marked by raised consciousness, awareness of self and others, living in the present moment, feeling emotions, setting boundaries, sharing needs, and taking responsibility for one's actions, choices, and motivations. Navigating Emotions with Clarity, Courage and Compassion: Practical Strategies. With Dr. Alissa Jerud

Today, we're diving into a topic that’s close to home for so many of us—Navigating our emotions.  It’s one of the most common struggles we face, and every time we explore it on Untangle, the response is overwhelming. My guest today is Dr. Alissa Jerud, a clinical psychologist, researcher, and the author of the book Emotion-Savvy Parenting. Her work focuses on helping us build practical, evidence-based strategies for navigating the storm of emotions that life inevitably brings. And, as you might guess, Anxiety is one of our most challenging emotions. What I love about Alissa’s approach is that she doesn’t treat anxiety as something to “get rid of.” Or any difficult emotion for that matter. Instead, she helps us understand it, accept it, work with it, and even grow through it. We talk about the myths of coping, how we often make things worse without meaning to, and why the strategies we instinctively reach for might not be serving us. We also learn how to become more emotionally agile, and the powerful practice of doing the opposite of what your anxiety urges you to do.If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by strong emotions and wanted to respond with more clarity, courage, and compassion, you’ll find this to be an interesting conversation. Resource: Alissajerud.comAs always, we’re untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform your brain. Turning Ideas to Action: How Your Mindset Impacts Creativity. With Zorana Ivcevic Pringle.

Todays guest is Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a Senior Research Scientist on Creativity at Yale University and author of the book The Creativity Choice, The Science of Making Decisions to Turn ideas into action.  Zorana brings insights into the nature of the creative process, from the first decision to engage with new ideas to its culmination in creative performances and products.  The science of creativity shows that the key to successful creativity is the decision to act—and then deciding to act again and again, despite any physical, mental, or emotional obstacles, until ideas take shape and come to life.
