317: What Do You Say When Someone Says, “I Quit. I’m Done.”?

When someone you love is in a mental health crisis, what do you say? How do you show up without panicking or trying to fix it all?In this episode, Corrine and Neil talk through one of the most tender and difficult questions they’ve ever received: “What do you say to someone who says they’re done?”—a phrase that often signals deep emotional pain or even suicidal thoughts.Drawing from principles of recovery, their own personal experiences, and their faith in Jesus Christ, Corrine and Neil explore how to truly support someone who feels like they’ve reached their breaking point. They offer practical tools—like the ACT method (Ask, Care, Tell)—and compassionate reminders that presence matters far more than having the perfect words. They discuss what emotional distress really feels like, how to sit with someone in that darkness without trying to rush them out of it, and why sometimes, saying “just breathe” is more powerful than trying to fix anything. You’ll also hear a thoughtful conversation on the difference between helping someone and trying to control the outcome, and how to lean into faith when everything feels out of your hands.Whether you’re trying to support someone dealing with suicidal ideation or you’re seeking peace in your own struggle, this conversation is a gentle and faith-filled place to begin.Supporting Resources:How to Help Someone in Crisis - https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/suicide-how-to-help/how-to-help-someone-in-crisis?lang=engSuicide Prevention and Ministering - https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/get-help/suicide?lang=engGive Us This Day Our Daily Bread by Elder D. 315: Is Your Faith Built on Principles or Practices?

In this episode, Corrine and Neil share the spiritual spark that came from revisiting one of Corrine’s favorite reads—At the Pulpit, a collection of powerful discourses by Latter-day Saint women. One particular talk led them into a heartfelt discussion about the difference between simply going through the motions and being truly anchored in the principles of the gospel. Together, they reflect on how easy it can be to drift spiritually when our faith is based more on practices or traditions than on personal testimony and truth. Corrine opens up about a recent moment that helped her see temple garments in a completely new light, and Neil shares how a mission experience taught him to separate procedures from eternal principles. Because the gospel was never meant to be memorized and recited—it was meant to be lived, loved, and understood from the inside out. 312: The Harm in Humor: What April Fool’s Taught Us About Kindness

In this episode, Corrine and Neil open up about a topic that doesn’t often get talked about seriously: the dark side of humor. From painful middle school memories to grown-up mistakes made in a split second on social media, they get real about the fine line between making people laugh and unintentionally hurting someone’s feelings. They talk candidly about why April Fool’s Day can feel triggering, how jokes at someone else’s expense often backfire, and how a quick laugh isn’t worth the cost of someone’s dignity. They also share powerful examples from their own life—moments they regret and lessons they’ve learned—plus what it really looks like to repent, repair, and aim for more thoughtful humor. The episode touches on everything from text group slip-ups to the brilliance of comedians like Nate Bargatze and the legacy of Robin Williams. It’s a message about leading with kindness, thinking before speaking, and how humor, when used well, can still bring light and connection without leaving anyone behind.

311: What to Do When You Get Offended: Resentment or Release

In this episode, Corrine and Neil unpack what to do when you get offended—a follow-up to their recent conversation about repentance (Ep 309). They share personal stories and recovery insights about how resentment can quietly take root and how holding on to offense can block spiritual growth and peace. Neil opens up about working through resentment after his brother’s death and how forgiveness became essential to his healing. Corrine reflects on how stress is often tied to focusing inward and how shifting toward serving others and surrendering control to God brings relief and perspective. A key theme of this discussion is the power of ownership: why learning to speak from the “I” and “me” perspective, instead of projecting with “you” or “we,” is essential in healing conversations. Together, they offer heartfelt advice on letting go of resentment, cleaning up your side of the street, and inviting God into your process of moving forward. Lewis, better known as Natty—a human behavior and performance expert who has spent over 25 years helping people understand fear, emotional resilience, and what it takes to truly thrive. 309: A Gentler Way to See Repentance

When you hear the word repentance, what comes to mind? For many, it carries feelings of guilt, shame, or fear. But what if repentance was never meant to be about punishment—but rather about hope, growth, and a fresh start? In this episode, Corrine and Neil unpack the true meaning of repentance and why it’s actually one of the most loving, freeing, and powerful gifts we’ve been given. They discuss why repentance is a process—not a one-time event, how it’s more about turning toward God than dwelling on mistakes, and why embracing it with the right perspective leads to real change, peace, and joy. They also share personal stories, including a cherished memory involving Dr. Terry and how a simple but powerful call to "Repent!" completely shifted Corrine’s perspective. Neil shares an insightful definition from the Bible Dictionary, explaining repentance as a fresh view and a turning of the heart. Together, they discuss why repentance requires patience and humility, and explore the role of church leaders in guiding us through change. This conversation is all about reframing repentance—not as something to fear, but as a hopeful, ongoing journey toward becoming the best version of ourselves.

307: If You Confuse, You Lose: Making Faith Easy to Live By

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the things you're supposed to remember or do when it comes to faith? In this episode, Corrine and Neil dive into why keeping gospel teachings simple is so important—especially when guiding kids and teens. They share personal stories, including a high school moment that left Corrine spiraling over a confusing phrase (“the devil is in the details”), and how Neil’s recent seminary lesson reinforced the power of focusing on core principles. Together, they explore the shift from rigid religious rules to a principle-based approach, the power of repetition in learning (spoiler: there’s a 50 States song involved), and why the most life-changing messages—whether in faith, business or even politics—are always the simplest ones. If you've ever worried about teaching your kids the "right" way or felt like faith is too complex to grasp, this conversation will bring so much clarity and encouragement.

From navigating different love languages to understanding the role of intimacy beyond just physical connection, they break down the small but meaningful shifts that can make a big difference in a relationship. They also share surprising insights from a recent study on how often married couples with kids are actually intimate (hint: it’s probably less than social media makes you think!). Plus, Corrine gets candid about the backlash she received after writing about intimacy on Substack and why so many women feel like they have nowhere to turn for real, honest conversations on this topic. She is a 2-time AVCA All-American in beach and still holds indoor records in career aces and digs. In Betsi’s rookie AVP Season in 2015, she and Kelly Kolinske were the youngest team at the time to take home an AVP Championship. Betsi was voted the AVP Newcomer of the Year. Betsi also plays on the FIVB and has earned Gold in China and Silver Medals in Canada and Australia.Betsi’s favorite career memory was winning AVP Hermosa in 2018 with Emily Day; she grew up watching this event, and in her first time playing at AVP Hermosa, she won in front of her friends and family. Her most defining moment, however, was winning AVP Cincinnati in her first year out of college. It was then that she realized she could pursue becoming a professional beach volleyball player full-time.
