How strange it is to think about the idiom “keep the home fires burning,” while witnessing the catastrophic and ongoing fires in California. The phrase comes from the 1914 song “Keep the Home Fires Burning (Till the Boys Get Home)." The song was written to encourage families to stay strong while their boys were shipped off to fight in World War I.
