Today’s episode is a bit of a different one. I asked what episodes you’d like me to touch on, and I got so many requests to do one on tips for early-stage business owners. It’s been on my ‘episodes to record’ list for months now, and today, we’re finally sitting down and doing it. I think if we truly exhausted the list of mistakes I’ve made and what I’ve learnt from we would actually be here for days, maybe we’d break the record for the longest podcast of all time (and beat Joe Rogan), but that wouldn’t be enjoyable for anyone, so i’ve picked my 4 most important lessons to go through in this episode, and if you find it useful, we can definitely do more of these type of solo eps! + PITCH DECK TEMPLATE This audio episode is not sponsored by Adobe but I am working in partnership with them at the moment, and as part of that partnership, we've worked together on a pitch deck template which you can find here: https://adobe.chrd.ly/GraceBeverleyxAdobeExpressYT I know pitch deck best practice is individual to every industry, but I really hope this will help if you're considering investment for your business! Let me know if you use it i'd love to see. + PITCH DECK YOUTUBE VIDEOSSeed: https://youtu.be/G6-J6ipeO4g?si=KwGHi5WwOp0HORfVSeries A: https://youtu.be/9Z3N41LrLck?si=3BJ4-xSh9Zey6_3X + WORKING HARD NEWSLETTER You can now sign up to the brand new working hard newsletter! We’ve been talking about launching a newsletter for forever, but I didn’t want to do it until we knew it could be the most useful it could possible be! I am personally very against inbox filling fluff, and I’m very picky with what I sign up to, so the brief for the Working Hard newsletter was a 3 minute read that helps you consume smarter, not longer. You don’t need me to tell you we waste actual years of our lives scrolling, so I wanted to create a newsletter that was packed full of recommendations, hacks & extra bts from the podcast. Trigger warning: I discuss fertility testing and weight loss in this episode, so please avoid this episode if those topics are triggering for you On Monday we did an episode with the amazing Hazel Wallace all about PCOS and gynae health. It was an education, and I’m so thankful to Hazel for helping me create a resource for everyone who wants to know more about it as a condition and all the latest research. I mentioned in the episode that I’ve been on a real journey with my PCOS this year. It was one of my new years resolutions to get it under control, and I know health doesn’t always love sticking to resolutions, but hey, I’m a goal orientated girl. So, after the episode I had loads of DMs asking what I’ve specifically done this year to tackle my PCOS, improve my skin, lose weight, lower my inflammation and generally improve my all round health, so I thought, why don’t I take you through it in a bonus episode. Quick disclaimer before we begin, I’m not a doctor. I’m just a girl who was fed up of her symptoms and wanted to try absolutely everything to feel her best for her wedding! This is my personal experience and not medical advice. If you want a medical expert’s take on PCOS, go and listen to Monday’s episode with Hazel! + FOLLOW THE PODCAST Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/workinghardpod/?hl=en-gb TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@workinghardpodcast?lang=en + DILEMMA SUBMISSION If you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to [email protected] with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram! + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. In today’s episode, we’re digging into a topic that impacts millions of women, but still isn’t widely understood: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS. It’s a personal one for me, as I’ve had PCOS for over a decade now, and whenever I search for information about the condition, I’m faced with reddit threads rather than professional advice, because so little research is done into PCOS and conditions like it. So, I wanted to create a resource for people like me, who are struggling to understand what they’re going through and desperate for information. So today we’re talking symptoms, diagnosis, lifestyle changes that actually help, and how to advocate for yourself when you’re not being heard. So, If you’ve ever struggled with your cycle, your skin, your mood, or been gaslit at the GP about your pain, this episode is for you. + DR HAZEL WALLACE Her new book, Not Just A Period: https://www.waterstones.com/book/not-just-a-period/hazel-wallace/9781035049592Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drhazelwallace/?hl=en-gbWebsite: https://www.drhazelwallace.co.uk/ + CHAPTERS0:00 Introduction 02:06 Working Hard or Hardly Working 02:45 Hazel’s PCOS journey 05:12 The difficulty of getting a diagnosis 8:13 What is PCOS and why is it so misunderstood?11:42 PCOS diagnosis requirements 14:39 PCOS vs Endometriosis16:00 Can you reverse PCOS? 16:55 Weight loss & PCOS 19:30 Nutrition tips for PCOS 23:46 Grace’s PCOS journey this year27:59 Fasted exercise & women’s health30:26 PCOS supplements33:00 Exercise & PCOS 40:57 The impact of stress 44:39 Insulin resitance 46:42 Metformin & spironolactone52:36 Medication vs Lifestyle56:00 Listener questions 58:11 Regular cycles & hormones 1:00:15 How to advocate for yourself at Drs1:01:47 Reducing PMS symptoms 1:05:10 Her biggest lesson 1:05:50 Best piece of advice + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is obviously monetarily endorsed. When I started this podcast, I wrote a list of my dream guests. It was almost like a podcast vision board. And today’s guest, was the first name I wrote down. Emma Grede is the Co-founder of Good American, founding partner of SKIMS, and Chairwoman of the Fifteen Percent Pledge. Emma has built some of the world’s most talked about brands, with the world’s most talked about people, and she’s not just a behind-the-scenes operator, if you’ve ever heard her speak before, you’ll know she’s bold with her goals, vocal on her values, and unapologetically ambitious. Today’s bonus episode is all about the heart vs head dilemma, how do you know when to trust your gut and when to step back and stick to the facts? It’s a theme that came up in our Monday episode with Adrienne Adhami, I’ve got so many messages in the few days since it has gone live and then as I was doing some further reading off the back of these messages, I came across an article that took my thoughts on this even further, so I thought we could sit down for a follow up bonus episode to really get further into it. + DILEMMA SUBMISSION If you'd like to submit any dilemmas to the podcast to be answered in the bonus episodes, please send them to [email protected] with the subject beginning DILEMMAS or DM us @workinghardpod on instagram! + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. Most of us grew up surrounded by a whirlwind of food rules. From diet culture telling us to cut carbs and count every calorie, to wellness trends convincing us that only green juices and almond flour are the path to health,it's no wonder we now feel totally disconnected from how to actually nourish our bodies. So much of nutrition advice is either unscientific, over-simplified, or just plain wrong. So today, I’m joined by someone who’s made it her mission to cut through the noise. Jo Malone CBE has long been high up on my dream guests list for this podcast. Not only because she's built two incredible global brands but she's also faced more than your average person's challenges along the way (to say the least). So I feel like we all know that feeling when you watch someone launch a business, or start posting vlogs, or announce their new side hustle, and whilst most of you is like WELL DONE a small part of you is like: “Oof… that’s brave.” It’s that feeling that I want to get into today. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat down to record this podcast and been told to “do less better”, that focusing on one thing is the only route to success in a career, whilst knowing that it’s no secret that I love pursuing new things. And for months I’ve been thinking about an episode on exactly that. So when I had the chance to have half an hour with Richard in the Virgin offices, I thought who better to really get into this subject with. I feel like lots of people, like me, don’t want to do less better, and that being told that over and over when it’s not quite your setting isn’t ideal. So I really wanted to understand Richard’s motivations for continuing to start more, and do more, even when he’s already grown so many businesses in his now over 60 year career, and see how that might be able to apply to all of us who don’t think so traditionally about one thing at a time. I really hope you love this slightly different bonus episode! Sarah is one of the original fashion creators in the UK, and in our last episode, she took us through her journey turning her online presence into the fashion powerhouse that was SLA The Label. But since then, a lot has changed. In Feburary this year, Sarah announced that SLA was closing. This episode is the first time she’s speaking on a podcast about that situation—what led to it, how it felt to walk away from something she built from the ground up, and what she’s learned in the months since. This is a conversation about identity, pressure, clarity, and the harsh reality of running a business in public. It’s raw, it’s reflective, and it’s going to resonate with anyone who's ever had to make a difficult decision or gone through a huge life change.I’m so grateful to Sarah for trusting us with this conversation. + SARAH ASHCROFTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahhashcroft/?hl=enYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@sarahhashcroft + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is obviously monetarily endorsed. This week I sat down with the Head of Instagram & Threads, Adam Mosseri (no biggie). It was a pretty personal one for me, as I've been on this app since right at the beginning, every update, every logo, every new feature, and I even remember the moment 15 second videos came along, it felt like a whole new world. So many of us use Instagram every single day, whether that's to build a business, create incredible content or just send memes to your mate. So I knew I had to get answers from Adam on the app's evolution, what 'the algorithm' actually means, the key metrics to tracks, and who he thinks is killing it at the moment. We also had a great chat about productivity when you're in the top job, and why (in his words) 'not being great at anything' was the key to his success. I hope you enjoy listening! + CHAPTERS0:00: Introduction1:22: Working Hard or Hardly Working2:30 A typical day for Adam 4:00: Adam's non negotiables 6:00: Emails & workflows 7:00: Decisions & delegation 8:15: Getting into tech 9:34: Starting as a founder11:35: Aspirations for leadership12:12: The skills that have helped him rise 14:00: How to climb the ladder 17:34: Working with Mark 20:10: How to hone your leadership skills 23:17: How to grow on Instagram 26:24: Keeping everyone in mind with evolution 27:47: Why DMs & stories are most important 28:50: Why he builds in public 32:33: How many times you should be posting 36:00: The new edits app 37:15: The creators that are killing it 38:50: What entrepreneurs are getting wrong 40:40: The most important metric to track 41:30: Productivity non negotiables 45:15: The best piece of advice he's ever received + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/FOLLOW ADAM: https://www.instagram.com/mosseri/?hl=en + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is obviously monetarily endorsed. This is an expert episode absolutely packed with gold on what & when we should be eating. My guest is Professor Sarah Berry, a world-leading expert in nutritional science, Professor at King’s College London, the Chief Scientist at ZOE and the lead nutritional scientist on the PREDICT program, the world’s largest in-depth nutritional research programme. With over 20 years of research under her belt, Sarah has published more than 200 scientific papers exploring how our bodies respond to food, from blood sugar and fat metabolism to the gut microbiomeand crucially, how those responses can differ drastically between individuals, especially women. The aim for this episode was to answer the question, as a woman, what and how should I be eating, and how we can finally move past one-size-fits-all wellness culture, something I am very behind! + CHAPTERS0:00: Introduction 1:53: Working Hard or Hardly Working? 2:49: Prof Sarah's Career Journey 5:45: Why nutritional science has overlooked women14:31: The processed food price gap18:03: How being a woman impacts your metabolism 21:24: Eating to ease menopause symptoms 23:57: The best times to be eating 32:22: Is there anyting we shouldn’t be eating?34:32: Why calorie counting doesn’t work 39:35: What keeps our microbiome healthy 41:00: What women should know about their bodies45:18: How fast eating impacts you50:33: What order you should eat your food in 52:30: The food matrix 57:30: When shouldn’t we be snacking?1:02:04: Her study on cancer in young people 1:06:25: Why 0.1% of us follow food guidelines 1:10:00: The best advice she's recieved + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + PROFESSOR SARAH BERRY Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drsarahberry/?hl=en ZOE: https://zoe.com/learn/sarah-berry ZOE Science & Nutrition podcast: https://link.chtbl.com/C0Nr-WDV + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. We're back!! And we've had a little spruce up. Before I get into this description, first agenda point is: follow @workinghardpod on Instagram! We're here: https://www.instagram.com/workinghardpod/ As part of this relaunch I wanted to create a space for everyone who listens and watches our podcast that is super inspiring & brings value to your feed. We’ve got lots of exciting plans, including a huge giveaway (which I haven’t mentioned anywhere but here, so you’re first to know). What a full circle it was to record with Conna when we were both in LA. This is the definition of an unfiltered founder to founder chat. We really got into it. Goal setting, life plans, business growth, boundaries. I loved recording it so much, I hope you enjoy watching it too. Also, what do we think of the new music? I hope you’re having a great week so far. We’re currently on a little podcast break at Working Hard, Hardly Working whilst we work on something hugely exciting which is coming very soon and I focus on opening the first ever TALA store which I still cannot believe is happening! But you know I would never leave you without inspiring content on a monday morning! So I’ve picked my absolute favourite episodes from the nearly 130 we’ve released. Today's is with the gorgeous Jemma Sbeg, host of The Psychology of Your 20s! Jemma is someone everyone in their twenties needs. Her podcast The Psychology of Your 20s, was one of the 20 most listened to podcasts in the WORLD last year, and she started it as a hobby whilst working her 80+ hour a week corporate job. I’ll be totally clear with you, my aim going into this episode was to get as much advice from Jemma as physically possible, to make it a guide to owning and understanding what is arguably the most confusing decade of our lives. We covered everything from finding your dream job, to comparison, to moving to a new city and so much more. + JEMMA'S LINKS:The Psychology Of Your 20s: https://www.psychologyofyour20s.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatpsychologypodcast/?hl=enPersonal IG: https://www.instagram.com/jemmasbeg/?hl=en + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own brands, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. But you know I would never leave you without inspiring content on a monday morning! So I’ve picked my absolute favourite episodes from the nearly 130 we’ve released. Dr O’Neill is a leading expert in reproductive science, she’s a lecturer in reproductive and molecular genetics at University College London, she has a Masters in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine and a PhD in Stem Cell Biology. She is also the founder and CEO of Hertility Health, an award-winning bio-tech business specialising in fertility testing that has raised over £5 million since launch. Fertility is obviously a hugely sensitive topic, but it’s also one that we never talk about for exactly that reason. When I started this podcast, I wanted it to cover the important topics that we never get taught, and I learnt so so much from Helen that I really couldn’t believe I haven’t researched or known before. If you’re thinking about switching off right now because you find the idea of fertility testing terrifying like I do, I promise you it’s worth sticking it out and listening to this one. However, if you are someone who is currently struggling to conceive, or finds fertility conversations particularly hard, this is an episode to skip. + HELEN'S LINKS:Hertility: https://hertilityhealth.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.helenoneill/?hl=en + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own brands, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. This week’s episode might be the one i’ve spent the most time thinking & planning ever. After our New Year compilation episode about improving your life went crazy, I asked what other theme led episodes you’d like, and SO many of you said finances, money moola. So the aim for this episode, is everything you need to know about money, and I took this as a wide definition, we’re going from literally why money exists & why they can’t print more - to saving, investing, raising funds and even some deep stuff on attitudes to money & wealth. This kind of stuff is something we were never every taught in school - it’s crazy to me that I know more about algebra than I do how to save & spend my own money wisely. I hope you find it useful! Siff Haider was fed up with the lack of problem-specific supplements on the market, had an idea that would solve the problem, spent her wedding savings on making it happen, made $1 million dollars in her first year, and has now seen the business grow 10 fold. But I’ll be honest, this isn’t just an episode about Siff’s business journey. A few months ago I became obsessed with her tiktoks on the high maintenance rules she lives by to stay low maintenance, the routines she swears by, the hot girl habits she sticks to - and so this is genuinely a case of me inviting Siff on to have a chat all about exactly that. I joked the other day in my vlog that my 2025 aim is to get hot, in all senses of the word, and if that’s something you want to do this year too - this episode is genuinely a great starting point. Irene Agbontaen is a someone whose career is defined by being the change she wanted to see. We’ve done rebranding (planning for 2025), we’ve done discipline (actually sticking to your routine), and so the third and final part of the new year mini series is all about getting yourself in the right mental state to be able to achieve those new shiny goals you set for yourself. I discovered Maya a few months ago, and loved her approach to mental fitness as something we actually work on & train, compared to just talking about our ‘mental health’ as something we all have. So this episode is essentially a free session with a renowned brain coach, we did guided visualisations (permission to lol at my meditation face), she taught me how to mentally rehearse like Venus Williams & also said the best advice quote I think we’ve ever had in 122 episodes, hope you love it! + Download Revolut with my link, spend, and get £20 (End date and T&Cs apply) https://get.revolut.com/E528/gracebeverleypod+ MAYAIG: https://www.instagram.com/maya.mental.fitness/?hl=enWebsite: https://mayaraichoora.com/Visualise: Think, Feel, Perform Like the Top 1% by Maya Raichoora is published by Rider (Penguin Random House) on 27 March. + CHAPTERS0:00 Introduction3:49: Working Hard or Hardly Working?4:48: The diagnosis that changed her life aged 1510:05: How much her healing journey was her mindset13:47: The difference between mental health & mental fitness18:56: The pillars of mental fitness20:55: Why training our brain gets harder after 2522:33: How to implement it into your life24:57: The basics of visualisation27:30: Showing the power of visualisation31:25: The difference between visualisation & overthinking24:27: The second arrow parable35:56: Controlling your emotions when you're exhausted42:27: How long does it take to build confidence44:20: How to stop falling back into your old routines46:31: How to stop using your past as validation49:02: How to communicate your growth to others55:33: The best advice she's ever been given + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed. Discipline is a weird one isn't it, the discourse is so massively dominated by podcast bros telling you to dig in, and when I googled 'books on discipline', I could barely find one by a woman. But it’s something should still speak about (even if it makes us seem podcast bro), because when we learn to harness it its hugely powerful, and actually sticking to a routine is so so much more important than creating one. The fact of the matter is that discipline is what actually keeps you going towards your goals when your new year's resolutions are crumpled in the bottom of your handbag. Laney Crowell is a founder I’ve wanted to speak to for such a long time, so I knew I had to pin her down on my trip to New York. She founded beauty brand Saie in 2019 after a five year stint at Estee Lauder that made her want to disrupt the industry, and to Saie (pardon the pun) it’s gone from strength to strength is an understatement. Laney’s career though was not an obvious entrepreneurial path - she started out on film sets, entered into the world of new york magazines, and even interviewed to be Anna Wintour’s assistant 7 times before landing what her dream role, leading social & eventually global communications for Estee Lauder. It was a big job, but she wanted even bigger, more disruptive things, which ultimately led her to Saie. + LANEY:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laney/?hl=enSAIE: https://saiehello.com/ + MY LINKS: https://gracebeverley.komi.io/ + RETROGRADE, SHREDDY, TALA and THE PRODUCTIVITY METHOD are my own businesses, therefore any mention of them - whilst not being a sponsorship - is monetarily endorsed.
