Amy and Kat are feeling excited and they have both been bitten by the ‘Courtney Cooks’ bug (like Weetabix dipped in chocolate and sweet potatoes with cheese). They break down why viral sensation Courtney Cook Bales has the internet hooked on her unconventional lunches and ponder why her content feels so safe and soothing. Amy also shares a recent book-and-movie spiral sparked by People We Meet on Vacation (the new Netflix movie). After watching the movie, she ordered 4 of Emily Henry’s books and cannot wait for them to arrive! In this powerful opening episode, Dr. Lee Warren invites us into the world where faith and neuroscience meet — not in theory, but in real, everyday transformation. As a practicing neurosurgeon, Dr. Warren has operated on the most delicate organ in the human body…yet he reminds us that some of the most life-altering “surgery” doesn’t happen in the operating room at all. He shares how every thought we think literally reshapes the brain, often without us realizing it. And that’s where Self-Brain Surgery begins: the moment we stop letting accidental patterns drive our lives, and start intentionally partnering with the God who designed our minds. In this conversation, Dr. Warren breaks down why so many of us feel stuck in fear, worry, and overwhelm — and why hope is not just an emotion, but the first step of real transformation. This episode will help you see your mind differently, your faith differently, and yourself differently. This is a time of year that seems to move at lightning speed. it can feel like, if we don’t also move at lightning speed, we’ll fall behind and miss something truly important. What if moving fast isn’t the flex you’ve been told it is? It might seem like FAST is the way to get more out of life. Think of all the magic we can experience and things we can accomplish if we move at the fastest possible pace! But what if we’re wrong about that? In this weeks episode I want to give you permission to move much more slowly than is culturally normal this time of year, and maybe even more slowly than you’re used to moving. Fast might be “normal” for you but take a minute and ask if it feels gentle or even good in your system. What if you could move more slowly and actually get MORE (rather than less) out of your life? Today, I suggest exactly that. It’s a little benediction for you as you move through the busiest time of year. Amy and Kat kick things off with a voicemail from Julia in Wisconsin. She shares that “fire” is her word for 2026, from firing what’s not serving her to doing “fire girl walks” and leaning into her style with some “fire fits.” This leads to Amy sharing her exhaustion around “in and out” lists on social media, especially when it comes to certain fashion things and home decor. The overconsumption is real right now!! Ashley, a listener from Arizona, sent an email with encouragement for Amy’s possible cowgirl era. She tells Amy what that lifestyle really looks like and why it aligns with Amy’s word of the year, which is less. Speaking of that lifestyle, Amy talks about her uncle managing George Strait’s ranch for many years and how her brother wrote a song about his retirement. Amy and Kat are feeling motivated and introduce a simple but powerful way to declutter: give your stuff a performance review. Inspired by a tip from a Harvard professor, they talk about how we “hire” items to do a job and how freeing it can be to fire the things that no longer serve you. They also break down the red flags that your house might have too much stuff, from constantly organizing without results to feeling anxious in your own space. Plus, a listener's voicemail proves that if we don’t clean out our homes as we age, we can end up with so much stuff that we won’t even recognize when our own things are being wrapped up and gifted back to us. In today’s episode of What’s God Got to Do With It? we’re diving deep into a struggle we’ve all faced: comparison. Whether it’s scrolling through Instagram, seeing someone else’s success, or feeling like you’re falling short in your own faith walk, comparison is a sneaky thief that steals our joy, gratitude, and connection to God. Leanne explores the real cost of comparison—how it can plant seeds of envy and even make us question God’s goodness—and explore practical, faith-filled steps to break free. From practicing radical gratitude (and the neuroscience behind how it rewires your brain!) to celebrating others without comparison, we’ll learn how to turn jealousy into connection and curiosity. Most importantly, we’ll anchor ourselves in God’s truth, reminding ourselves of the unique and beautiful plans He has for each of us. If you’re ready to stop letting comparison steal your peace and start walking confidently in your own God-given path, this episode is for you, because What God has for you is yours. If you’re a high-achiever who has built your life on hard work, dedication and getting difficult tasks done, you probably can’t imagine what it would be like to allow your life to happen in a way that is organic and easy. Just let things happen however they happen??? It might even sound kind of “wrong”. You might think to yourself that everything good in your life has been built by the achiever in you who knows how to get great things accomplished. But what if all of that power and passion you bring to your work and your life could be directed toward a life of ease? What if “easy” doesn’t mean what you think it does? This is a tiny little nuance that will not only change the way you think about the word “easy” but will (hopefully) revolutionize the way you experience your life. In this Couch Talks, Amy and Kat explore two very real moments listeners are navigating right now…one about grief, and one about blending families and homes. They begin with a note from a listener whose father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer. In the middle of her husband’s heartbreak, she offered him the phrase Amy and Kat say every week: “Have the day you need to have.” Permission to feel is sometimes the most supportive thing we can give someone. This leads to Amy sharing a story about Kat affirming her decision to eat an entire bag of sharable M&Ms and an Auntie Anne’s pretzel from the Denver airport (FYI: the one in Terminal C is the best Amy says she’s ever had!) When Amy wondered how many servings of M&Ms she’d just eaten, Kat replied with: “You had the amount of servings you needed to have.” GOOD REPLY, KAT!!! Then they dive into a second email from a listener wrestling with a big life transition: moving into her partner’s home as they prepare for marriage…kids, mortgages, logistics and feelings all included. How do you make someone else’s house feel like your home? Should she ask to be added to the deed? Is combining households always this complicated? They answer these questions (their opinions!) and Amy shares feelings she’s having about her boyfriend and this exact topic. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! Kat and Amy go over the Drama Triangle today! Kat helps us unpack the difference between content vs. context (aka fact vs. the story we write about the fact), why our brains default to meaning-making, and how those stories can lift us above the line into possibility…or pull us below the line into fear, lack, and powerlessness. Kat explains the 3 unconscious roles of the Drama Triangle: Victim, Rescuer, and Persecutor + why each one feels rewarding in the moment, and how they keep us trapped in unhealthy communication loops. Both Amy and Kat share some personal stories on the Drama Triangle showing up in their own lives. They also talk about how quickly we rotate roles and what actually breaks the cycle: noticing your patterns, naming your feelings, setting boundaries, lowering expectations, and taking radical responsibility for yourself. It’s an eye-opening and immediately practical episode. Plus, Amy brings in the “burnt toast theory” to show how reframing even the smallest moments can be helpful. Amy & Kat take an unexpected stroll down memory lane talking about the D.A.R.E. program from back in the day. Do yall remember that? It definitely kept Kat clean & also had her freaked out anytime her parents would have one drink haha. They go over a heartfelt email from Suzanne offering a beautiful picture of the ups and downs that come with big life changes. Through all the emotions (happiness, sadness, fear, and contentment) she reminds us to embrace the chaos of the holidays, fill our cups, and take things one step at a time. A true reminder that life is full of all the feelings, and it's okay to experience them all in a single day. Also, Amy answers another email from a listener asking about how Ally Fallon fits into the mix because they found her podcast on the feed and they play a voicemail about letting go of the need for others' approval!! Amy and Kat kick off the episode with a feeling that might hit way too close to home: “I think I might need to cry.” Speaking of crying, science says that if you cry easily it might mean your brain is working better than you think. They break down findings on why people who tear up easily have faster processing, and how “emotion labeling” can calm your brain in just 90 seconds. They also talk about the inconvenient nature of friendships and relationships (including an airport pickup that went sideways with Amy’s boyfriend), what truly makes a bond healthy, and why mutual investment matters more than proximity or shared experiences. And with Christmas coming up, they close out with a reminder: there are things you absolutely don’t owe your family during the holidays. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! Today we’re diving deep into a topic that resonates with so many of us: why it sometimes feels like our prayers are going unanswered. Have you ever found yourself pleading with God, pouring out your heart for a breakthrough or a change, only to be met with silence? Maybe you’re asking for healing, clarity, or relief from a burden, but despite your faith and persistence, nothing seems to shift. We’ll explore what it truly means when God’s response is “Wait” or even “No,” and how these answers are not signs of indifference, but rather expressions of His love and wisdom. Through stories of real-life challengesfrom Leanne and her clients, we’ll uncover how God’s timing and decisions often lead to outcomes far greater than we can envision. And while waiting or facing rejection can feel painful and confusing, there is a deeper trust and peace available when we lean into His plan. Join us as we break down the steps to find hope and faith during those seasons of waiting and learn to see God’s “No” as a powerful redirection rather than rejection. Because even in His silence, He is working—moving on your behalf in ways you can’t yet see. Amy and Kat kick things off with a viral Thanksgiving game idea they saw going viral. They would like to work-shop the game a little, so maybe you have an idea on how to make the game more mysterious. They share two emails. One from a listener, Amy, asking about why we have to give the therapy disclaimer at the start of couch talks episodes and how Kat changed her life after sharing she doesn’t wear underwear with her leggings. The second email is from ‘E in Boston’ and she is curious on thoughts on a vanity license plate idea that gives a nod to our show closing “have the day you need to have.” And don’t miss Stevenson’s upcoming 10-mile run this Saturday, 11/29, to raise funds for a special Christmas for the kids at the Haitian orphanage he once lived in. They also unpack why “Let me know what you need” can backfire and share helpful things to say instead when someone’s struggling. If you’ve ever considered writing a book, you’ve also probably asked yourself this common question: is my idea any good? Is the story or topic I want to write about interesting to anyone other than me? There are many ways to answer this question and unfortunately, how you answer might determine whether or not you write your book. Imagine if the author of your favorite book had decided, before ever writing, that their book idea was “no good”. In today’s episode, I’ll teach you how to answer this question for yourself and talk about the common pitfalls aspiring writers fall into. Hopefully I inspire you to give your book idea some space to develop into what it was meant to be. We hesitate to tell our stories for a thousand reasons. It’s vulnerable, for starters, and we hate the feeling of giving others power over us. We decide ahead of time that our story isn’t that interesting, that nobody else would care besides us, and that our situation is 100% unique to our experience. But what if wisdom is buried inside of your personal story? What if keeping your story secret is hiding that wisdom, even from you? Saturn and Neptune are Retrograde in Pisces, bringing a period of deep introspection—and potential emotional pitfalls. The energy feels foggy, exhaustive, and heavy, putting our defenses to the test. This astrological transit can stir up old fears and delusions, making past, unhealthy coping mechanisms sound like logical solutions. Be aware: the temptation toward escapism will be high, whether through old addictions like drugs, alcohol, and food, or behaviors like doomscrolling, overeating, or toxic relationships. This is a cautionary time. Your nervous system may feel frayed and exhausted, and your internal "check engine light" is on. It's a real danger that you might romanticize destructive behaviors. In this episode, we arm you with spiritual and practical defenses: Double Down on Recovery: It's time to double down on asking for help and proactively activating your support systems. Tap Into Community: We discuss why friendships and community are your most vital resources against the loud, delusional inner voice. The Antidote to Self-Serving: Learn how being of service to others is the antidote to feeling selfish and stuck—a powerful way to get out of your own head. Facing the Mental Health Storm: We address why voices of depression, anxiety, and worthlessness may get louder now and remind you that you are not alone. Spiritual Defenses: Practical ways to talk to your higher self and ask for support from your guides and spiritual troops. Don't let old delusions lead you into a darker place. This transit is an incredible evolutionary journey, but you must be mindful. Listen now to learn how to proactively safeguard your sobriety, mental clarity, and spiritual well-being. Amy and Kat are both feeling merry this week!! Kat because she just had the staycation of her dreams and she’s already decorated for Christmas (she’s in a season of creating as much joy as possible)! And Amy’s feeling merry because, well, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! However, she had some anxiety pop up around something she thought she’d worked through, so she shares about those feelings as well. Kat reminds her that healing isn’t about being “done” with a feeling…it’s about knowing how to move through it now. When familiar feelings show up again, it doesn’t mean you’re back at the beginning. It’s just a new moment to practice showing up differently…with more awareness, more tools, and more kindness for yourself. Also in this episode: a cozy stovetop simmer recipe (see below!), the move to make out of a second story should there be a fire (random, but helpful), and a thoughtful email from new listener Dave, who shares how burnout shifted his relationship with work and a reminder to actually communicate needs in a relationship…men aren’t mind readers. Smells Like Christmas: A Cozy Simmer Pot Recipe 1 large orange, sliced 3–4 cinnamon sticks 1 cup fresh cranberries 1 tablespoon whole cloves 2–3 sprigs of fresh rosemary (or a handful of pine needles if you’re feeling extra festive) Water to fill the pot How To: Combine everything in a medium pot. Fill with water until ingredients are just covered (leave about an inch from the top). Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Reduce to low and let it quietly bubble away (uncovered) as long as you’d like. Keep an eye on it and add more water as needed so it doesn’t dry out. Pro tip…you can reuse the same pot a few times! Just pop it in the fridge overnight and add fresh water before reheating. This little ritual makes your whole house smell like orange, cinnamon, and nostalgia. It’s one of those small, sensory things that makes the holidays feel like the holidays. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! What do you do when the people in your life don’t share your faith—or worse, when they actively pull you away from it? A listener sent in this tough but common question, and today, we’re diving deep into how to navigate relationships while staying strong in your walk with God. Maybe it’s friends who don’t respect your beliefs, family members who challenge your faith, or even a romantic relationship that’s making you feel distant from God. In this episode, we’ll break down what the Bible says about relationships and influence, how to set boundaries without being judgmental, and how to know when it’s time to step back. Plus, we’ll talk about how your life—not just your words—is your loudest testimony. If you’ve ever struggled with balancing faith and relationships, this conversation will equip you with wisdom, encouragement, and practical steps to protect your faith while still loving those around you. You pray for change, you genuinely want to do better, and yet… you find yourself stuck in the same old habits. Sound familiar? In today’s episode, we answer a listener’s question about why breaking free from repetitive struggles feels so hard—even when we’re actively seeking God’s help. Whether it’s self-sabotage, toxic relationships, negative self-talk, or cycles of fear and doubt, we’ll unpack the three key reasons why we keep repeating patterns: how our brains crave familiarity, how subconscious beliefs shape our actions, and how spiritual battles keep us stuck. But here’s the truth: You are not broken. You are not beyond hope. And this cycle doesn’t have to define you. We’ll dive into how Romans 12:2 shows us that real transformation happens through the renewing of our minds, how neuroscience confirms that change is possible, and how the Holy Spirit empowers us beyond sheer willpower. If you’re tired of feeling stuck and want real, lasting change, this episode will give you the tools—and the encouragement—to step into true freedom. When someone asks, “how are you doing?” Do you smile and say “I’m fine”? Or do you tell the truth? You might have a thousand reasons for holding back your truth in the face of a relatively benign question like “how are you doing?” — some of which may even be justified. But I suppose a better question is: do you know what is true for you? Are you in touch with your own truth? Are you able to share it with at least one trusted person? And have you considered the power and possibility of sharing your truth more broadly? This is what I’m exploring in today's episode. No matter how impossible it might seem to tell the truth — no matter who you think it might hurt or what you worry would unravel, the old maxim is right: only really the truth can set you free. Rather than bracing for Mercury Retrograde, we invite you to embrace this period (November 9th-29th) as a spiritual refinement process—a chance to clear static from your frequency and let old, outdated narratives dissolve. With three water signs in retrograde (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), the universe is gifting us a profound psycho-spiritual cleanse. Here’s what we cover: The Upgrade Invitation: Why you must engage with the Mercury Retrograde for a deep mental and cognitive rewire, rather than recycling confusion. Sagittarius Detox: From Nov 9th, Mercury in Sag demands a mental expansion and belief detox. What limiting stories have been running the show unconsciously? (Be mindful of spiritual bypassing or excessive optimism!) Scorpio Confrontation: When Mercury slides back into Scorpio on Nov 18th, the game changes. We move from philosophical to embodiment. This is where the rubber meets the road—truth will come to light, and you can't avoid the red flags. Psychic Purge: All three water signs are in retrograde, purifying and detoxing our psyche. We are being cleansed of pain and confrontation that doesn't need to quantum leap with us into 2026. Deep Truth Telling: Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio penetrates the underworld of your psyche, exposing what has been hidden. This is the time to integrate your shadows and excavate old junk that has been buried. Power Dates: A roadmap of crucial days for action, clarity, and receiving luck: Nov 12th (watch your mouth), Nov 17th (lucky day), Nov 20th (psychic day), Nov 22nd (Master Number day), and celebration on Nov 30th. This November is a pressure cooker—focus internally, clear the static, and trust that your soul is catching up to the mental and psychic upgrade you are receiving. Have you ever found yourself thinking, I believe in God, but why do I still have doubts? If so, you’re not alone! In this episode, we tackle a powerful listener question about navigating faith when uncertainty creeps in. We’ll explore why doubt is a normal part of the faith journey, what the Bible actually says about questioning God, and how even some of the strongest believers—like John the Baptist and Thomas—had their moments of uncertainty. But here’s the good news: Doubt doesn’t mean you’re failing in your faith. It’s an opportunity to grow deeper. We’ll also break down the neuroscience behind why our brains crave certainty and how we can rewire our thought patterns to align with God’s truth. If you’ve ever felt like you’re wrestling with faith and doubt at the same time, this episode will remind you that God isn’t afraid of your questions—and He’s not going anywhere.
