On January 8, 1994, a person walking a wooded area off of State Highway 225 in Baldwin County, Alabama, spotted skeletal remains with items scattered about the scene: A trucker hat that said America By Birth, Texan by Grace Of God, a western shirt, an inhaler, a digital watch, dark pair of prescription, bifocal glasses, a mechanical pen and pencil set, as well as a torch tip. Investigation revealed the person was a victim of a homicide and detectives believe the murder happened in 1988 or 1989, but detectives were unable to identify the victim. Out of prison for exactly one month, Christopher Ebanks is accused of killing a friend, Billy Joe Carrethers, with some type of odd stabbing weapon, then forcing Carrethers girlfriend, Selena Blanco, to clean up the mess. The victim was then placed in a bathtub, wrapped up in carpet and air mattress, bound with an extension cord and put into a closet. July 12, 1980, Everett, Washington: Married, mother of two, Susan Vesey, was found dead in her home the morning after her 21st birthday. Her children were home while she was tied up, beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled. Many possible suspects, including her husband and brother-in-law, were interviewed, but no arrest was made, and the case went cold. June 2, 1984, Everett, Washington: Passerby calls 911 from a pay phone to report a fire in a small apartment building. Firefighters rush in to put out the fire and find Judy Weaver, tied up with a phone cord, strangled, brutalized and dead. The investigation stalls and goes cold. On February 22, 2003, the body of 57-year-old Jeanette Wilton was discovered near her home in the Flint River, close to a train trestle. Joseph Scott Morgan takes an in-depth look at the autopsy that showed the mother of three and grandmother to seven, had been sexually assaulted before she died of strangulation and multiple stab wounds to her neck. She also suffered blunt force trauma to her head and face along with contusions and postmortem abrasions. When Katherine Torbick failed to show up for work and friends could not get her to reply to calls and texts, police were called to do a "well-being" check. Danny Calahane was at home with his young daughter when two men showed up with screwdrivers aiming to do Danny harm. The Elmira Police Department named Alfred Raymond Murray Jr. as the lone suspect in the 1964 murder of 12-year-old Mary Simpson. The case remained unsolved for 62 years, but it was never forgotten. After getting a grant from the Season of Justice in 2022, Elmira police, with the assistance of the FBI, reopened the case using modern forensic methods. In 2023, the Elmira Police Department partnered with the Criminal Investigation Resource Center at Russell Sage College, and the case was organized and digitized, allowing for a review of evidence and forensics. Forensic evidence from the case was sent to Othram's laboratory in the Woodlands, Texas, where scientists were able to build a comprehensive DNA profile of the unknown suspect. The profile was used by the FBI's forensic genetic genealogy team, and working together with the Elmira Police Department, investigators found the suspect, Alfred Raymond Murray Jr. Murray died on March 16, 2004, at the age of 73, almost 40 years to the day. Mary Simpson vanished on March 15, 1964. She was 12.
