Summary

On February 22, 2003, the body of 57-year-old Jeanette Wilton was discovered near her home in the Flint River, close to a train trestle.  Joseph Scott Morgan takes an in-depth look at the autopsy that showed the mother of three and grandmother to seven, had been sexually assaulted before she died of strangulation and multiple stab wounds to her neck. She also suffered blunt force trauma to her head and face along with contusions and postmortem abrasions. Dave Mack looks at the investigation where no murder weapon was found, no suspects identified, no arrest made, and the case went cold quickly.  Two decades would pass before the case was brought in from the cold, and with the help of the Western Michigan University Cold Case Program, the Michigan State Police Cold Case Team was able to examine the evidence and find forensic evidence that could be sent to Othram in the Woodlands, Texas, leading to the identification of a suspect and an arrest.

You know, there's just something about grandmothers.

I don't know of any human being, certainly in my life, that has impacted me, the man that I am right now, more so than my grandmother.

And one of the reasons is I spent so much time around her.

0:34.1

I learned so much from her, and not just from the things that she would say,

but how she lived her life. She's a very simple woman, a rural woman, down here in the deep south.

But my lord, there is not a single day that I don't think about her.

And that's the beauty of it, because I can pass that on to my kids and to my grandkids.

1:03.7

Maybe some of the lessons I learned just from observing her.

But the sad reality is this.

Once she was gone for my life, there were no more lessons to be learned. There was nothing else to be taught. Today, we're going to talk about a case involving one such woman

who is now absent from her grandchildren's lives. And it's not that she passed away in her sleep.

She's not even aged.

When I was, I think I was like three or four, we lived in an old house that was so incredibly cold.
