Overview

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause... and feel things.

The Hot Girl Hamster Wheel

Amy and Kat explore the subtle (and not-so-subtle) pressures women feel and how easy it is to get caught in the cycle of “doing all the things” to feel worthy. Inspired by the book Rich Girl Nation, Kat breaks down the idea of the “hot girl hamster wheel” and what it’s costing us (not just financially, but emotionally!) They talk about the power of opting out or just simply learning to do something because you actually WANT to do it (and you can afford to do it) not because you feel like you have to!  Also in this episode: • The “choose your hard” list you didn’t know you needed • Embarrassing moments that shouldn’t be embarrassing • A listener’s card-free journal tradition that could be a Hallmark movie  Call and leave a voicemail: 877-207-2077 Email: [email protected] HOSTS: Amy Brown // RadioAmy.com // @RadioAmy Kat Van Buren // @KatVanburenSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Write Your Story: In a Chaotic World, We Need More of This Lost Art

Write Your Story with Ally Fallon: Human beings have a primal need that we don’t often talk about.  It’s not food or water or love, although we need those things too.  It’s the human need that drives you to watch Netflix, scroll Instagram, gasp at a text message that says, “you’ll never guess what happened!?” and even binge a great audiobook (the three I mention in the episode are in the notes below).   And yet unlike food, water and love, this primal need often gets overlooked.  No wonder we’re depressed or bored or dysregulated or overwhelmed. We’re treating a basic need we have like it’s secondary; and that oversight is costing us.  I invite you to find ways to bring back this “lost” art so we can rediscover meaning, clarity and connection in our lives.  Check out THE TELL HERE! What's God Got To Do With It? Beauty from the Broken: God's Redemption Story Continues

What's God Got To Do With It? With Leanne Ellington: In the second episode titled "God In the Good," we pick up as Mattie Jackson continues sharing her transformative journey after losing her 28-year-old husband to a traumatic brain injury three weeks shy of their first wedding anniversary. She shared an inside peek behind her own healing process, and how God helped her shift her focus from everything she lost to everything she still had. She also shares about her journey to finding love again after the death of her husband. As she delves into her own redemption story, Mattieie shares how God not only redeemed her personal life but also her purpose-filled professional life, and now she truly believes in the coexistence of pain and joy, sharing her belief that when one has the courage to delve into the depths of pain, joy's well gets deeper   GUEST: @mattiejackson Mattie's Website: https://www.mattiejackson.net/ Mattie's Podcast: In Joy Life Podcast Mattie's Book: Lemons on Friday HOST: Leanne Ellington // StresslessEating.com // @leanneellington  To learn more about Leanne, head over to www.LeanneEllington.com, and to share your thoughts, questions, feedback, or guest suggestions instantly, head on over to www.WhatsGodGotToDoWithIt.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Soul Sessions: July 2025 Numerology & Astrology Forecast: Initiation Through Disintegration

Soul Sessions with Amanda Rieger Green: July is an incredibly potent and transformative month, acting as both a transitional period and a powerful frequency portal. You might experience moments of confusion, but these are often signs of a sacred initiation, guiding you through a profound shift. This month amplifies the themes of 2025, a 9 universal year in numerology, signifying endings and drastic, dynamic change. Consider what's being stripped away in your life, allowing you to resonate more deeply with your soul essence. Old contracts and conditions that no longer serve your highest good are dissolving.  Actionable Wisdom for July: - Prioritize Solitude: Create dedicated time for inner reflection and connection. - Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. - Listen to Your Body: Pay close attention to its responses, especially with the heightened energies. - Trust the Dissolving Process: Release what no longer serves you with grace. - Embrace Stillness: This is your anchor amidst the energetic shifts. - Connect with Your Soul: Your inner wisdom and guides are your strongest allies. July itself is a 7 universal month in numerology. The combination of the 9-year and 7-month energy creates a powerful "hermit" archetype. Solitary time is crucial for receiving "aha" and expansive moments. This doesn't mean isolating yourself, but rather consciously creating daily space to go within and rejuvenate. Remember to connect with your soul, your intuition and spirit guides are powerful sources of communication during this time. Key Astrological Dates for July (Part 1): July 4th: Neptune Stations Direct in Aries – This signifies an actionless initiation, where deep inner movement occurs even when you feel still.  July 4th: Venus Enters Gemini – This transit brings a playful, flirty energy to love and relationships. It encourages creativity and a willingness to let your desires change.  July 7th: Uranus Enters Gemini – Expect a profound upgrade to the collective nervous system and a significant surge of energy. Stillness and self-care are paramount to avoid feeling overwhelmed.  July 10th: Full Moon in Capricorn (4:37 PM ET) – This powerful full moon illuminates what burdens and responsibilities you might be carrying that were never truly yours. This is also an excellent time to revisit your long-term vision (5-10 years) and ensure your daily routines align with your desired legacy. Ready to embrace the transformative energies of July? An Invitation Isn’t an Obligation: Let People Show Up for You (Couch Talks)

She’s planning her baby’s 1st birthday after a long fertility journey and wants to include people she loves, but with no pressure. How Angry Are You? (Mild, Medium, or Hot) + Things That Defeat ADHD Brains & More

Amy’s feeling angry, but she’s thankful for it showing her what matters and where her boundaries need to be. They impromptu come up with a “salsa scale” to measure anger: mild (annoyed), medium (mad), and hot (furious) and, surprisingly, it really is a good way to explain the level of anger you’re at. Also in this episode: • Borderline impossible errands for ADHD brains (returning things, getting gas, mailing stuff... relatable, right?) • Kat’s new jewelry hobby and how hobbies help anxiety • A listener email about talking to someone on a dating app who doesn’t realize they’ve met you in real life! • A listener voicemail on standing up to sexist comments at work Call us anytime at 877-207-2077 and remember: you’re a sunflower, they’re just an ugly weed pretending to be fancy (encouragement from Kat to Amy that’ll make sense once you listen!) Write Your Story: Let AI Take Over Everything but This

Write Your Story with Ally Fallon: AI has been a constant topic of conversation lately, mainly because we’re watching the world change at a rapid pace in ways that are unprecedented and can be unnerving.  We’re in uncharted territory.   As nostalgic as I can sometimes feel about a time when iPhones didn’t rule our lives, I tend toward the belief that, in general, the best times are ahead of us — not behind.  I even recorded an episode a few weeks ago encouraging creative people not to be afraid of what AI can do for creativity:  In this episode, I want to flag a concern I do have about the current AI takeover. It’s not a concern about AI taking over creative jobs or writing all future published books. It’s about something much more personal.  Take a listen and tell me what you think. What's God Got To Do With It?: Finding God in the Ruins: A Journey from Despair to Prayer (with Mattie Jackson Smith)

What's God Got To Do With It? With Leanne Ellington: Born and raised in a quintessential “country music family”, as the oldest daughter of country music super star Alan Jackson, Mattie Jackson is as down-to-earth and open-hearted as they come. But that doesn't mean she's immune to tragedy and a curveball that could never have been predicted.  Three weeks before her first wedding anniversary, Mattie experienced an unimaginable tragedy and lost her husband to a sudden brain injury. She candidly shares how her life was suddenly turned upside down, and the intense emotional rollercoaster of hope, despair, and ultimately, unimaginable loss that followed. . Mattie's raw emotions included everything from anger to disappointment to hopelessness, and the struggle to reconcile her prayers that she feared would be left unanswered. Amidst the heartbreak, she shares how she navigated through grief and the quest for meaning in the midst of so much chaos. The answer was no other than: God. She leaned on God and her faith to guide her through the darkest times. Mattie courageously bares her soul and lays it all out for us to hear in this interview for The God Pod, and I have no doubt that this episode  will inspire you to live life with more appreciation, courage, and purpose.   GUEST: @mattiejackson Mattie's Website: https://www.mattiejackson.net/ Mattie's Podcast: In Joy Life Podcast Mattie's Book: Lemons on Friday HOST: Leanne Ellington // StresslessEating.com // @leanneellington  To learn more about Leanne, head over to www.LeanneEllington.com, and to share your thoughts, questions, feedback, or guest suggestions instantly, head on over to www.WhatsGodGotToDoWithIt.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Write Your Story: Who Is Narrating Your Story?

Write Your Story with Ally Fallon: If we’re all a sort of “hero” in our own personal narrative, it begs an obvious question: who is narrating the story?  I watched Harold and the Purple Crayon on Netflix with my kids over the weekend, a children's book turned movie where the main character of a book goes searching for the narrator of his story so that he can better understand his purpose in life.  My kids thought the movie was hilarious. I found it deeply thought-provoking.  Who is narrating my story? Who is narrating your story?  This is a question (and an answer) I explore in today’s episode. I hope you enjoy and I’d love to hear what you think. Host: Ally Fallon // @allyfallon // allisonfallon.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When a Male Boss Says You Can’t Do Something Because You’re a Woman (Couch Talks)

Amy & Kat share an email from a listener working in a male dominated profession. She asked to remain anonymous and shared that a supervisor, in front of numerous other people, said he didn’t think that she should do a portion of her job because she is a woman. Amy and Kat talk about how to respond when people project their fears or outdated ideas about relationships onto your dreams, and why you don’t need to defend living a big, brave life. There are way more interesting questions like: What is she going to eat? Will she hike with others she meets along the way? Where will she sleep? What if you encounter a bear? How often does her husband get to visit her? We hope this chat offers some encouragement for anyone working toward something others might not understand. You don’t need permission to be proud of yourself. Also, Kat gets an update from Amy on the Face Fitness trial that she signed up for at the first of April. Feelings Aren’t Facts, Stretching vs. Compromising, and Why Talking to Yourself Is Actually Genius

Amy and Kat dive into the important reminder that feelings aren’t facts. Yes, feelings give us information, but they don’t always tell us the whole truth. They also talk about why confusion might actually be a sign you're growing, why talking to yourself out loud is a good thing (according to science!), and how to build curiosity instead of judgment when emotions get messy. Plus: Amy shares a funny story about stretching, Kat breaks down what to do when a therapist gives you the ick, and a beautiful email about finding hope during a hard fertility journey Remember: your feelings are real…but you get to decide how much they drive the car!! Why We Keep Looking Outside Ourselves for Validation (and How to Finally Stop) - Part 2 (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: In Part 2 of our series, Leanne dives deep into the brain science behind why we crave approval—and how that craving can become a constant chase for validation. From diet culture to social media to people-pleasing, we explore how the world wires us to outsource our self-worth. But we don’t have to stay stuck in that loop. You’ll learn what it looks like to reclaim your inner authority, quiet the external noise, and anchor into a worthiness that isn’t dependent on who accepts you or applauds you. Divorced, Disappointed, and Debating a Confrontation (Couch Talks)

Amy and Kat respond to an email from a listener navigating a tough post-divorce situation. Her ex-husband’s behavior (especially around their daughter’s upcoming wedding) is testing her patience. Amy and Kat talk through boundaries, money, and how to support your kids without taking responsibility for what someone else refuses to do. Plus, something fun: They play a voicemail from a listener who called in with advice about her own breast augmentation — a nice follow-up to last week’s listener question. 4 Things with Amy Brown is getting a makeover! Starting April 1st, the podcast will change to Feeling Things with Amy & Kat. It'll still be on the same feed (you don’t need to change a thing), but now Kat Van Buren, the therapist you already know and love from our 5th Thing episodes and host of You Need Therapy podcast, is officially joining Amy as full-time co-host. In this episode, Amy & Kat talk about why they're making the change, what you can expect moving forward, and how you can get involved (hint: go follow @FeelingThingsPodcast on Instagram for a very good giveaway). This change reflects where we’ve grown and where we’re going: more honest conversations, more laughter, more depth, more stories, and definitely more feelings.
