The Tennessee Does, Part 5: Fragmentation

Laurah is sick; apologies for hoarseness. Episode 5 presents the most difficult cases in MNPD’s files: cases limited to a single element, or bone, dead-ended by clues that led nowhere, or, in the case of the River Road John Doe, where the decedent’s remains are no longer available—that’s why we need your help to try and match him with a missing person, based on the clues we have, and the ones we have uncovered. Season 16 of The Fall Line takes on our most in-depth John and Jane Doe coverage yet: 22 files from MNPD’s cold-case unit, all covering the metro area’s unidentified decedents. More than ever, your help is needed to spread the word about each of the cases featured this season, and if you have any information—please, contact MNPD at 615-862-7803. Episode Two covers the cases of eight John Does, many of whom are believed to have been unhoused at the times of their deaths; at least two of these unidentified decedents may be homicide victims, and that number could be higher. But all of the people whose cases are covered in this episode are lost, in that they have been disconnected from their identities, and thus their loved ones—whether they were missing in the months before their deaths, or for much longer. Introducing: Morbidology - Jordyn Dumont

At 3:30PM on August 15th, 2016, a call came in to police in Bessemer City, North Carolina, that would set off a chain of events that shook the community to its very core. William Joseph McCullen, who was tasked with caring for his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter, Jordyn Dumont, reported that she had gone missing. McCullen’s story was that he had put Jordyn down for a nap and then dozed off himself, only to wake up to an open front door and no sign of Jordyn. As detectives dug deeper into the case, it became clear that that Jordyn’s disappearance was only the tip of the iceberg… The investigation would expose a troubling pattern of neglect and abuse, raising serious questions about the role of law enforcement and social services and the devastating consequences that can occur when they fail to do their jobs. “Sherry or Cheryl” Jane Doe: The Nashville Jane Does—Harpeth River, 1976

In March of 1976, a young woman was discovered, with no obvious trauma, in the Harpeth River in Nashville; she carried on her a picture of a little boy, and a trail that led to witnesses who said she’d hitchhiked with a mysterious friend, all the way from Minnesota—but that trail led nowhere. Without the possibility of DNA testing, the best shot of identifying “Sherry” Jane Doe is using her extremely accurate forensic art, and the details she shared of her life—and, perhaps, a daughter that ties her to South Carolina. The Fall Line has commissioned new isolated forensic art of her teeth to share with the public in hopes that this information will aid in identification; you can see this image and all others associated with the case on our website. To submit information, please contact Detective Filter at Metro Nashville Police at 615-862-7803. The Fall Line is releasing new information in “Leo” Jane Doe’s case; you can view the images we mention on our social media accounts. To submit information or contact MNPD about uploading your DNA, please contact Detective Filter at Metro Nashville Police at 615-862-7803.
