One of my very best friends, Kristen Ceevi, creates and hosts the podcast Murder She Told.

She's a credentialed victim's advocate and one of the best cold case researchers working in this field.

In this episode, she's covering the case of Emil Martins, a Danish immigrant who was

murdered in a one-room cabin in the main woods in 1963. The case went cold. The main

state police eventually told his family that the files had been lost, and his name does not

appear on any unsolved case list in the state.

Kristen tracked down records that had never been publicly released and worked directly with Emile's surviving family to tell this story.

In April of 1963, a violent discovery was made inside a tiny one-room cabin in the woods

off Route 2A in Arrista County in Maine.

68-year-old Emil Martens was found brutally beaten to death, setting off a brief and fragmented investigation

that produced a swirl of suspects, rumors, and unanswered questions.

If you go to the main state police website and looked at their unsolved homicides, you'll find cases that date back all the way to 1954. But this isn't one of

them. Though I knew this case existed, I really only looked into it because the victim's family

reached out to me and asked to cover it.

There are other such cases that have been featured on murder she told. Dennis Down, the three

boys from Cape Breton, and most recently Kitty Wardwell, and there's more in the works.

These cases only live in the memories of the people who are still waiting for answers and in the archives.
