Scott Pritchard was just 19 years old when he was brutally attacked only yards from his family home in Sunderland. The football-mad teenager, who was recovering from a broken foot and relying on crutches, was especially vulnerable when he was ambushed and fatally struck with a blunt object. For years, his murder remained one of the North East's most enduring unsolved cases. His family suffered unimaginable heartbreak, while Scott's dad faced the additional anguish of being wrongly suspected of his own son's killing. In this episode, I examine the investigation, the mistakes, the unanswered questions, and the extraordinary twist that finally revealed the truth. It is the story of a family who refused to give up hope and a case that proved justice can sometimes arrive in the most unexpected way. This podcast normally has a focus on victims of crime. Today, is different as I focus on the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, Christian Brückner. In this special episode, I chat with Alex Frieling, a freelance German journalist covering crime, justice and investigative stories. He has reported extensively on Christian Brückner and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for several British and German media outlets, including the Daily Mirror and The Sun. Over the past few years, he has attended court hearings, spoken with sources connected to the case and conducted on-the-ground reporting in Germany and so I was very keen to talk with him about Brückner. To follow his work - and I highly recommend it - Alex can be found on TikTok and other social media platforms under his name, Alex Frieling. A special extended podcast today. When Molly McLaren ended a short relationship, she believed it was the start of a new chapter. Instead, she found herself subjected to relentless stalking and harassment by a former partner who refused to accept the breakup. As the obsession intensified, Molly repeatedly tried to protect herself and move forward with her life. Tragically, her fears became reality when the stalking culminated in a shocking act of violence. In this episode, I explore Molly's story, the warning signs of coercive and obsessive behaviour, and the lasting impact her case has had on the conversation around stalking and victim protection. I am back on Sunday with a special edition of the UK True Crime Podcast in conversation with German journalist Alex Frieling all about the chief suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, Christian Brückner. It was a small village in Hertfordshire, where very little ever disturbed the peace - certainly not the kind of brutal violence that unfolded when retired Army Colonel Robert Workman was shot dead on his own doorstep. Robert was an old-fashioned military man: well spoken, private, proud, and known for his calm and easy-going nature. He lived a quiet life and had no obvious enemies. So when news spread that he had been murdered outside his own home, the question on everyone’s mind was chillingly simple - who could possibly have wanted him dead, and why? Between January 2022 and December 2024, 65,053 arson offences were recorded across the UK police forces that provided data - yet only 4.83% of these cases resulted in charges. In this episode of the UK True Crime Podcast, I look at the case of Stefan Geary and a series of arson offences that affected communities across the North East. I examine the police investigation, the evidence presented in court, and the impact the fires had on local residents and emergency services. Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with legendary ex-detective Colin Sutton to talk about his new TV Series: Confessions of a Serial Killer: Levi Bellfield - available to stream on Prime Video from 25 May. In this series, Colin and his team re-examine the claims of serial killer Levi Bellfield, whose repeated and conflicting confessions to the 1996 murders of Lin and Megan Russell have reignited one of the country’s most controversial cases. With another man still serving life sentences for the crime, this series unravels a complex web of evidence, doubt and deception, asking whether Bellfield is manipulating the system from behind bars. For many people living on the fringes of society, long-term plans often give way to simply surviving day by day. It can be a world shaped by addiction, instability and violence - as seen in today’s case from Bournemouth on England’s south coast. After human body parts were discovered in different areas of the town, a major police investigation led detectives to a cramped one-bedroom flat shared by three vulnerable people living chaotic lives dominated by drugs, alcohol and financial hardship. As tensions inside the flat spiralled out of control, the situation turned deadly, ending in a shocking and brutal murder. What began as a celebration ended in devastating violence. Pat Howard and Adam Fanelli were killed after a baby shower in Houghton Regis spilled out onto the street, where a confrontation escalated rapidly into a brutal and sustained attack. In front of multiple witnesses, the violence intensified - culminating in the use of both a vehicle and a knife. Along with Adam Fanelli, who was trying to defuse the situation, Pat suffered fatal injuries in a case which shocked the community. Investigators reconstructed the events through CCTV, witness accounts, and forensic evidence, revealing a deliberate and relentless assault. In this podcast I look at events leading up to the two murders, the police investigation and how those responsible were brought to justice. 50-year-old Robert Powell was brutally murdered outside a party in Essex in what investigators believed was a planned, targeted hit - carried out in front of his two sons. A truly shocking and deeply distressing crime. Thanks to determined and meticulous police work, the main suspect, Nana Oppong (pictured), was tracked down after fleeing the UK immediately after the killing. He travelled to Spain, before attempting to cross into Morocco hidden in the back of a lorry, using a fake Maltese passport. He was intercepted at Tangier Port and returned to the UK to face justice. Oppong later stood trial for Powell’s murder - but his courtroom history added a dramatic twist. On three previous occasions, he had faced murder charges…and been acquitted every time. In the late 1970's, LSD was big in Cambridge University's radical academic fringe, inspired by LSD pioneer Timothy Leary. The story today comes from Swansea and looks at the case of Brian Whitelock, a man who was sent to prison for murder and manslaughter. Cornwall isn't the sort of place you associate with large scale drug imports from South America, IRA terrorists and murder. But in this episode of the UK True Crime podcast, we hear a story that involved all of these things. When detectives quizzed local farmer Ross Stone about cannabis being grown on his farm, they could never expected that he would reveal that two missing men - Brett Flournoy & David Griffiths were also buried there. But was he responsible for the killings? Back in January 2024, I covered this story, but today I have just heard that one of the key people in the story was found dead in their prison cell last month. In light of this latest development, I’ve decided to re-release this episode today. When 17 year old Simon Everitt suddenly disappeared from near Great Yarmouth, concern quickly grew among those who knew him. As the investigation continued, the disturbing truth emerged that Simon had been murdered by people within his own circle, and his body hidden in a remote rural location in Norfolk in an attempt to cover up the crime. Jean Windridge lived near Birmingham and was always immaculate in her appearance, with a real fondness for flashy costume jewellery which led to her gaining the nicknames among friends of ‘Diamond Lil’ and ‘Goldfinger’. She didn't wear expensive pieces, but loved the jewellery that she wore. At 78, Jean had a busy social life and lots of friends, being known locally for her kindness and sense of community. So when she was found murdered in her own home after an afternoon party at the local church, nobody could understand why anyone would want to hurt Jean. In this episode of the UK True Crime Podcast I delve into the criminal history of Paul Bint, a serial conman known as the “King Con.” Bint repeatedly posed as high-status figures, such as barristers and senior officials, to manipulate victims, often targeting women and gaining their trust before exploiting them financially. With hundreds of offences and multiple prison sentences, his story reveals how confidence fraud relies on charm, deception, and psychological manipulation rather than complex schemes. It is quite a story. I release episodes of the UK True Crime Podcast every Tuesday and Friday, so please do join me for the next episode on Tuesday. Few people will feel sympathy for Ian Huntley, who this week was seriously attacked inside prison. The murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham remain among the most abhorrent crimes in modern British history - acts so senseless they are almost impossible to comprehend. The man reported to have carried out the attack was Anthony Russell. Back in October 2024, I covered Russell’s own crimes - a week of shocking violence that left three people dead and exposed just how dangerous he is.In light of this latest development, I’ve decided to re-release that episode today - to revisit who Anthony Russell is, what he did, and how his name has once again returned to the headlines.
