Because when alcohol has been the glue holding your social life together, stepping away from it can feel like pulling a thread that unravels everything. Ep. 264: Drunk-ish: Casey’s Drinking From Blackouts To Breakthroughs

Hey there! In today’s episode, I’m flipping the mic and sharing an interview of me—recorded on the Drunk-ish podcast with the hilarious and wise Stefanie Wilder-Taylor—comedian, author of Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay and Drunk-ish, and one of the original mom writers who made me feel seen in the early days of parenting (and wine o’clock). If you’ve ever wanted to hear the full origin story—like, how I went from a straight-A, people-pleasing diplomat’s kid to doing rugby keg runs in college and the book I read that made me recognize I might have a problem with alcohol… all the way to how I finally quit drinking, why I went back after a year sober, and what it took to stop for good—this is the episode for you. Ep. 263: Have You Tried To Moderate Your Drinking?

If you’ve ever tried to “just have one” or “only drink on weekends,” you’re not alone. Most women I work with try moderating their drinking before they ever take a full break from alcohol.  I did it too—for years. I set all the rules: only wine with dinner, no drinks during the week, only on special occasions. And I broke all those rules. Over and over. In this episode of The Hello Someday Podcast, I’m joined by my amazing friend and former client, Marriott. She was where so many women are—trying to moderate her drinking so she’d never have to give it up completely. But eventually, like me, she realized that moderating alcohol wasn't actually working... and it wasn't actually making her happier. I asked Marriott, now the community manager in my Sobriety Starter Kit program, to share how to recognize when moderation is doing more harm than good—and what to do instead. Together we break down the truth about drinking in moderation, why it’s so damn hard to sustain, and how choosing to step away from alcohol fully—even just for 100 days—can lead to real peace, freedom, and joy. Ep. 262: How to Repair Relationships with Your Children After Stopping Drinking

Stopping drinking is hard enough. But repairing the emotional aftermath that lands at your kids’ feet? That’s a whole different level of brave. Whether your kids are toddlers or teenagers, grown adults or somewhere in between, chances are you’re asking yourself, “How do I talk to them about this?” or “Will they ever trust me again?” In this episode, I asked Janice Johnson Dowd—licensed master social worker, speaker, mom of four, and author of the book Rebuilding Relationships in Recovery—to share how to rebuild trust and connection with your children after quitting drinking. Janice has 12 years of sobriety under her belt and has walked this exact road. She gets how messy and emotional it can be, and she’s here to help you take the first steps forward. As a life and sobriety coach for high-achieving women—and as someone who stopped drinking when my kids were two and eight—I know firsthand that the relationship you have with your children is one of the most powerful motivators to change. But it's also one of the most tender and complicated to repair. That’s why I wanted to have this conversation. Ep. 261: How To Overcome Self-Doubt and Navigate Imposter Syndrome (Without Drinking Through It)

If you’ve ever felt like you’re not good enough, like you don’t belong, or like you’re secretly one mistake away from being exposed as a fraud… you’re not alone. That feeling has a name—Imposter Syndrome—and it’s more common than you think, especially for high-achieving women juggling work, family, sobriety, and everything else life throws your way. Imposter Syndrome (or as my guest calls it, “the imposter phenomenon”) is the belief that your accomplishments are a fluke and that you’re going to be found out as a fraud—despite all the evidence that you’re actually doing just fine (and maybe even killing it). In this episode, I asked Dr. Jill Stoddard—licensed psychologist, coach, TEDx speaker, and author of Imposter No More—to share how we can manage imposter syndrome using tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychological flexibility, and values-based living. Her work helps women stop hustling for their worth and start showing up for the life they want—even if they feel anxious, unsure, or scared. Ep. 260: How To Get Help From Your Doctor If You’re Struggling With Alcohol

If you're worried about your drinking and wondering how your doctor can help, you’re not alone. So many women I talk to want support—but they’re unsure what to say, how it’ll show up in their medical file, or whether their doctor will even take them seriously. You might worry about being judged, dismissed, or told to “just cut back” or “go to AA.” That’s why I asked Megan Popp, a family nurse practitioner with almost six years of alcohol-free living and 15 years of recovery from an eating disorder, to join me on the podcast. She’s the founder of Northside Forsyth Family Medicine & Geriatrics and brings not only clinical expertise—but also lived experience—to this conversation. I asked Megan to share how to talk to your doctor about your drinking, what to say (and not say), and how your primary care provider can actually support your recovery. I’m Casey McGuire Davidson, a life and sobriety coach for high-achieving women who are sober curious or ready to break out of the drinking cycle. I host The Hello Someday Podcast because I know how hard it is to juggle work, marriage, kids, anxiety, and overwhelm—and still feel like alcohol is the only thing holding you together.  In this episode, you’ll get practical advice you can use right away to start advocating for your health, even if you're nervous to bring up your drinking. The goal of this episode is to help you feel empowered and prepared. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, sleep issues, physical symptoms, or just feel in your gut that alcohol might be part of the problem, here’s how to talk to your doctor and get real support—not judgment. Ep. 259: Why Moms Do It All and How To Get Your Partner To Do More

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything in your household—while your partner somehow has time to watch SportsCenter or scroll on their phone—you’re not alone. Managing the invisible load of running a home and family can feel like an unpaid, full-time job on top of everything else you do. And if you’re navigating sobriety, the stress, resentment, and exhaustion can feel even heavier—because now you’re no longer using alcohol as a “reward” or a way to take the edge off. I asked Eve Rodsky, author of Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live), to share how you can rebalance the division of labor in your home, set boundaries that stick, and reclaim your time—without the guilt, resentment, or endless arguments. Ep. 258: How to Navigate Life As A Stepmom In A Blended Family (Without Drinking Through the Stress)

Stepmom life is no joke. It’s one of the hardest, most emotionally challenging roles to take on—yet most of us step into it completely unprepared for the rollercoaster ahead. You’re trying to blend two families, manage different parenting styles, navigate tricky dynamics with an ex, and build a strong relationship with kids who may or may not accept you. Oh, and while you’re at it, you’re also supposed to stay calm, keep your marriage strong, and not lose yourself in the process. No wonder so many stepmoms end up pouring a glass of wine (or three) just to cope. But here’s the truth: drinking through the stress doesn’t actually make it easier. It just numbs the emotions temporarily—only to bring them back stronger the next day, with a side of regret and exhaustion. In this episode, we’re talking about how to navigate stepmom life without numbing out with alcohol—how to handle the stress, overwhelm, and uncertainty with real tools that actually help. Ep. 257: Rebuilding Trust With Your Body In Sobriety

If you’re a sober curious woman or in the early stages of sobriety, chances are you’ve spent years feeling disconnected from your body.  Whether it was waking up with hangovers, feeling puffy and bloated, trying (and failing) to diet while still drinking, or just feeling uncomfortable in your skin—your relationship with your body may feel strained. Here’s the truth: rebuilding trust with your body is one of the most powerful gifts of sobriety. And it starts with learning how to nourish, respect, and listen to your body—without punishment, restriction, or outdated diet culture rules. In this episode, I’m talking with Katy Harvey, a non-diet dietitian, intuitive eating expert, and host of The Rebuilding Trust with Your Body Podcast.  Katy helps women ditch dieting, reduce stress around food, and make peace with their bodies so they can feel comfortable in their own skin and live more fully. She’s here to help us untangle years of conditioning around body shame, diet culture, and restrictive eating patterns that often show up when women stop drinking. Ep. 256: How To Not Hate Your Husband After Kids

If you’re a mom who has ever found yourself seething with resentment while your partner somehow gets to sleep in, take leisurely bathroom breaks, or “helps” with the kids by taking them to the park for an hour while you tackle the 500 things left on the to-do list—this episode is for you. Marriage after kids is hard. And for so many women, it’s enough to make anyone crack open a bottle of wine at 5 PM just to get through the chaos. In this episode, I’m talking to Jancee Dunn, author of How to Not Hate Your Husband After Kids, about the reality of marriage and parenthood—and how to navigate it without losing your mind (or your marriage). Ep. 255: 12 Steps for Skeptics – Clearing Up Common Misconceptions About a Path to Sobriety

If you’ve ever thought about exploring a 12-step program but felt hesitant—whether because of the language, the concept of "God," or the label "alcoholic"—this episode is for you.  As someone who has my own doubts about following a 12-step program on my path to sobriety, I get it. It can feel intimidating, outdated, or just not like “your thing.”  But here’s the deal: while it’s not the only path to sobriety, there’s a lot of value in the 12 steps when you look past the barriers and approach it on your own terms. That’s why I invited my friend Arlina Allen to the podcast. She’s a coach, podcaster, and author of The 12-Step Guide for Skeptics: Clearing Up Common Misconceptions of a Path to Sobriety. In her book, Arlina dives into the objections that keep people out of 12-step programs and reframes them in ways that feel modern, accessible, and, most importantly, doable. Ep. 254: Simplify Your Life with Sobriety: Practical Tips to Reduce Stress and Overwhelm

Life is busy, chaotic, and sometimes really overwhelming. Between work, kids, relationships, and the endless to-do list, it can feel like there’s no room to breathe.  And for many women, alcohol has become the go-to way to cope—whether it’s wine after a long day or cocktails on the weekend to escape the stress.  But what if the very thing you think is helping is actually making everything harder? Sobriety isn’t just about quitting alcohol—it’s about creating space, peace, and clarity in your life. It’s about simplifying things in a way that helps you feel calmer, more present, and more in control.  In this episode, I’m talking with Courtney Carver, author of Soulful Simplicity and Gentle: Rest More, Stress Less, and Live the Life You Actually Want.  Courtney is an expert in minimalism, mindful living, and stress reduction, and she shares how giving up alcohol was the single biggest thing she did to simplify her life. Have you ever felt like you had to be perfect? That you had to succeed effortlessly, without anyone seeing how hard you were working? I know I did. And for a long time, drinking felt like the thing that helped me pull it off. In today’s episode, I’m talking with Sarah Levy, author of Drinking Games, a memoir in essays exploring drinking culture, perfectionism, and what it means to opt out.  If you’ve ever used alcohol as a way to turn off the constant pressure, to feel like you fit in, or to give yourself a break from the relentless striving, you’re going to relate to this one. If you've ever tried to stop drinking or take a longer break from alcohol, you know how tough it can be. Sobriety isn’t just about quitting alcohol—it’s about building the strength to navigate life’s challenges without numbing out. Stress, overwhelm, work, kids, relationships—it’s a lot. Ep. 240: How to Parent in Recovery and Create a Sober Family Lifestyle

If you’re a high-achieving, busy mom juggling a demanding career, family, and all the other responsibilities life throws your way, you may feel like you’ve been holding it all together… but with a few drinks (or a bottle of wine) at the end of each day.  If you’re used to being “on” all the time, there are a lot of hidden pressures that make giving up alcohol as your number one coping tool and “quick fix” for stress and connection difficult along the way. If you’re a high-achieving mom, managing recovery while maintaining family routines, careers, and social responsibilities can feel overwhelming.  But there are ways to create a healthy, balanced family lifestyle that supports your sobriety. I asked Sarah Allen Benton, author of Parents in Recovery, to talk with me about what it really means to be a parent in recovery and how you can thrive in both roles without sacrificing your well-being.  Sarah breaks down strategies that high-functioning parents can use to navigate sobriety successfully and create a nurturing environment for themselves and their families. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 239: How The Wine Industry Targets Women To Drink Problematically

Have you seen the “Rosé All Day” t-shirts? Or the ones that say “This Mom Runs On Coffee, Wine and Amazon Prime”?  How about the World Health Organization’s findings that “No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health”. In this episode, I’m diving into the marketing strategies the wine industry uses to appeal directly to women and how this targeted messaging is designed to encourage women to drink problematically and why the wine industry is freaking out that the World Health Organization (who they describe as the leader of the “anti-alcohol lobby”) is having success with its message that “there is no safe amount of alcohol to drink”.   Together with Ruby Williams—a former wine industry insider and certified alcohol freedom coach—we’re peeling back the curtain on the strategies that have helped normalize alcohol as an everyday coping tool for women. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 238: What Is Gray Area Drinking? How To Exit The Drinking Cycle

Gray area drinking is a middle ground between casual social drinking and a diagnosable alcohol use disorder, often characterized by a quiet, internal struggle with moderation. Many high-achieving women find themselves here, questioning their relationship with alcohol, yet not experiencing drastic external consequences. This space can be confusing and isolating, as it doesn’t fit traditional narratives around drinking problems.  My guest, Jolene Park, is a functional nutritionist, TEDx speaker, and creator of the Gray Area Drinking Recovery Hub shares her journey and expertise. Ep. 237: Anger Management in Sobriety

Managing anger is one of the most challenging, and often surprising, aspects of sobriety. If you're on the path to recovery or have recently stopped drinking, you might have noticed emotions like anger bubbling up more frequently or intensely than before. It's a normal part of the process, but it can feel overwhelming, especially when you’ve been using alcohol to numb those feelings for years. I asked my good friend Gill Tietz, host of the Sober Powered Podcast, certified anger management specialist, crisis intervention specialist and professional recovery coach, to talk about anger—what it really is, why it shows up, and how you can manage it in a way that supports your sobriety rather than jeopardizes it. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 236: What To Do If Your Husband Is Struggling With Alcohol

If you’re trying to take a break from alcohol or quit drinking it helps a lot if you can get alcohol out of your house and stay away from drinking events for a while. And it would be great if our partners would support us, especially in early sobriety.  But if your husband is struggling with alcohol he might be unwilling to stop drinking around you, try to undermine your efforts or criticize you for not drinking.   He might miss his drinking buddy or worry how your decision to stop drinking will impact him.  Hopefully, you’re tapping into sober support and resources like this podcast, but if you’re worried about your husband’s drinking I asked Todd Kinney, author of I Didn't Believe It Either: One Dad's Discovery That Everything Is Better Without Alcohol to chat about what you can do if your husband is struggling with alcohol. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 235: Single in Sobriety: How To Maximize Happiness, Fulfillment And Be Your Own Best Life Partner

Being single in sobriety has a lot of advantages and some unique challenges.  On the one hand you don’t have a partner in your home who might not support your choice to be sober, may be drinking themselves or be unwilling to remove alcohol from your house. You’ll control your own environment and have more time for self-care.  But you’ll also be surrounded by a culture that promotes dating and socializing with alcohol. Being single in sobriety can stir up feelings of loneliness or isolation, fears of dating without a social lubricant and open evenings without accountability.  On top of that, if you're like many women you've felt the pressure to pair up which can be triggering.  We’re told from a young age that the ultimate goal is to find a romantic partner, and that success in life often equates to marriage.  This narrative can lead to feelings of inadequacy if you’re single for longer than society thinks is “acceptable.”  But what if we questioned that whole narrative?  What if being single didn’t mean something was missing, but instead opened up the possibility for deep fulfillment, joy, and independence? I invited Meghan Keane, author of Party of One: Be Your Own Best Life Partner, to help us explore how to embrace being single and redefine happiness on your own terms.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Have you been trying to break your habit of drinking using willpower, positive inspiration or negative, fear-based motivation by trying to avoid negative consequences?  If you haven’t been successful in your attempts to stop drinking using this approach it’s actually not your fault. Instead you've likely just been trying to make a long term behavior change in all the wrong ways.  There are easy ways and hard ways to break a habit, and research into the science of behavior change shows that willpower just doesn’t work in the long term.  In this episode I’m going to talk about how to break your habit of drinking in four simple steps - without relying on willpower or hating the process.

Ep. 232: The Highs and Lows of Your First Sober Year

Your first year of sobriety can be uncomfortable, tender, transformational, scary and exciting. As you move from Day 1 to 365 sober, you’ll have navigated a range of emotions, challenges, triumphs and changes in your life, simply because you decided to no longer drink alcohol. In your first year of sobriety you’ll struggle with cravings, worry about how others will perceive you, wonder if you’ll feel bored or be boring, invest in self-care, make new friends, re-negotiate boundaries and relationships, feel healthier and more energized, discover new things you love, sleep like a baby, navigate challenges like business trips, vacations, couples dinners, stress, overwhelm, loss, fears and limiting beliefs.  You’ll also experience more joy, peace, pride, confidence, clarity, ease and happiness than you ever did when you were drinking. Your first sober year is a wild ride, and when you hit that one year milestone you might not even recognize the person you were and the emotions you felt when you were just trying to get one week alcohol-free under your belt. That was true for Emily, a high-achieving working woman who decided to take a break from drinking one year ago and has never looked back. Despite being mostly a weekend drinker without outward consequences or anyone telling her she had a problem with alcohol, Emily knew it was dragging her down, keeping her stuck and preventing her from living her best life. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 230: Understanding Addiction - What It Is, Why It Happens And How To Recover

Did you know that seventy-five percent of people with substance use disorder who have sustained support recover? It’s true. And the statistic is important because alcohol is an addictive substance and substance use is the rule, not the exception, in America.  If you’re struggling with moderating your drinking, worrying about how much you drink or are struggling with achieving sobriety, you are not alone. And it’s important to know that recovery is not only possible, but likely. Individuals who engage in long-term, consistent care have a 75% chance of achieving sustained recovery from addiction.  I asked Dr. Nzinga Harrison, a double-board certified physician in addiction medicine and psychiatry and the author of the book, Un-Addiction: 6 Mind-Changing Conversations That Could Save a Life, to share why addiction is often misunderstood as a moral failing rather than a medical condition. Through our conversation you’ll have a new understanding of what addiction is, why addiction happens and how we can recover from addiction to alcohol or other substances.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 229: Reparenting 101: Healing Your Inner Child From Mother Hunger

Have you ever felt like something was missing from your childhood, even if everything seemed fine on the surface? You’re not alone. Many of us carry wounds from our early years, often rooted in what’s called "mother hunger"—the deep, often unfulfilled need for nurturing, protection, and guidance from our mothers. When those needs aren’t met, it can leave us feeling incomplete, even as adults.  I asked Cybele Botran, a Professional Certified Coach, and a Mother Hunger® Trained Facilitator to walk us through the need for protection, nurturance and guidance we all have in childhood and the primary attachment wound that is created when those needs aren't met.  She also shares how to take care of our own emotional needs, as adults, in the way a loving parent would, without placing blame on primary caregivers and practical ways to do reparenting and inner child work in the healing process.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 228: How To Enjoy An Awesome Sober Vacation With Friends

What do you want to know about sober travel? I just got back from Provence, where I spent two weeks with 3 sober girlfriends and we’re here to share everything you need to know to plan and enjoy an awesome sober vacation. Provence is a beautiful area of France known for its small hilltop villages, river valleys, markets, food, lavender and wine. All the wine. They’ve made wine for 2,600 years and have over 600 producers in the region.   But don’t let that scare you off! Even in an area famous for alcohol, you can travel alcohol-free and enjoy your trip so much more than you would if you were drinking.  On this sober vacation I traveled with 3 girlfriends I met in sobriety. My friend Ingrid and I are both 8 years alcohol-free, Margaret is 7 years alcohol-free and Megan is 5 years sober.  The 4 of us all met in sobriety, through various groups and podcasts and retreats and friends and decided to explore a region typically known for wine, alcohol-free and had the most fantastic time together.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 227: How Al-Anon Can Help If You’re Living With A Partner Who Drinks Problematically

How do you get and stay sober when you have a partner or family member who drinks problematically?  While quitting drinking can be difficult for everyone, it can be especially difficult if you don’t have the support of your spouse, partner or the closest people in your life.  And if someone in your family has a drinking problem that they’re not willing to address or admit to, it can make your home, emotional and social environment a minefield of triggers to navigate. I asked Erinn O’Neill, a health and wellness coach and co-host of the 2 Sober Girls Podcast, to share her experience with Al-Anon and how it can support women if they’re dealing with a partner, family member or friend who is struggling with alcohol.  Erinn stopped drinking 5 years ago by going to a 30-Day inpatient rehab program and attending 12-Step Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. She also attends Al-Anon.  In our conversation Erinn also shares her own experience with going to a 30-Day rehab program and what you might want to consider when evaluating and selecting a rehab if that’s right for you.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 225: Alcohol Explained With William Porter

Why do you crave alcohol and why is it so easy to go from drinking casually to habitually?  Why is it hard to moderate your drinking? How does alcohol affect your sleep and why do you wake up at 3am after drinking? Why does alcohol make you feel relaxed and then more anxious the next morning? How does alcohol affect your brain, body, mood and stress hormones?   Is it true that alcohol can be good for you in small doses? What are the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal? If you have questions about alcohol, William Porter, author of Alcohol Explained and Alcohol Explained 2: Tools for a Stronger Sobriety has the answers.  As William writes, "Alcohol is a deceptive drug. It creates the illusion of pleasure and relaxation while causing the very anxiety and discomfort it purports to relieve."  In today's episode, William Porter breaks down these questions and more. He provides a clear, scientific explanation of what happens to your body and mind when you consume alcohol. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 224: How To Socialize Sober

In a boozy world it can be pretty daunting to socialize sober when you stop drinking.  When you go to a restaurant the first thing they hand you is the drinks menu with all the wine, beer and cocktails offered.  When you walk into a party someone will immediately ask you what you want to drink and tell you where you can grab an alcoholic beverage.  And it seems like every sports event, dinner, holiday, concert, picnic and kids’ birthday party is a drinking event these days.  So I asked Susie Streelman to join me to talk about how to socialize sober.  We want to give you actionable, practical strategies that you can use today to handle events like a sober pro.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 223: Does Your Phone Make You Constantly Connected, Always Available, Anxious and Unhappy?

Did you know that stepping away from your smartphone can help you lead a more peaceful and fulfilling life?  These days the devices in our pockets make us constantly connected, always available, overstimulated and interrupted by pings, reminders and vibrations.  Our phones have increased the pace, efficiency and convenience of our lives, but studies show they’ve also increased our anxiety, depression, and loneliness. I remember the days before smartphones as a slower and more peaceful time in my life. But I love my phone and it’s the tool I use more than any other. It’s my credit card, address book, alarm clock, meditation app, sleep sounds, encyclopedia, map and dictionary. How did I navigate life without it? I asked Jennie Ketchum-Crooks, an anxiety and OCD specialist, to help me dive deep into the mental health impacts of digital overconsumption and how a digital detox can help us combat anxiety and foster healthier, more meaningful lives. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 222: What We Get Wrong About How To Be Happy

If you're not feeling 100% happy in your life, you might be surprised as to the reasons why.  It turns out the "science of happiness" has found that a lot of the things we've been told will make us happy, don't actually bring us joy, contentment and satisfaction. And if you're a woman in midlife you might suspect that's true.  We've been taught that if we accomplish and achieve the things on the external "measures of success", then we'll be happy. It might be climbing the corporate ladder, making a certain amount of money, getting married, having kids, buying the house, going on fancy vacations, eating and drinking at nice restaurants or dive bars with your girlfriends or partner, opening a bottle of wine to "relax" and "celebrate", having a perfect and aspirational Instagram feed (or insert your "thing that will make me happy when I finally achieve it" here). What if you're doing all that, you have all the blessings, and you feel overwhelmed, stressed out, dissatisfied, lonely, irritated, resentful or bored? I've asked Dr. Laurie Santos, a Professor of Psychology at Yale University, host of The Happiness Lab podcast and expert on the science of happiness to help us learn practical strategies to cultivate genuine happiness. 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 221: 30 Days Sober: A Diary Of Early Sobriety

Early sobriety is an emotional and tender time, so I wanted to share with you my diary of my first 30 days sober, which has somehow turned into 6 continuous years alcohol-free. 6 years ago I woke up on the couch at 3am after drinking a bottle of wine. I came upstairs to crawl into bed with my husband filled with anxiety and unable to fall back to sleep.  In the morning I had to get up, get ready and take my kids to school with a headache, bloodshot eyes and a hangover while trying to ignore my husband’s question of “how are you feeling this morning?” And while that morning was no different than many others, somehow on that day I decided that I couldn’t do this to myself anymore. I had been trying to cut back on my drinking and moderate it, but it wasn’t working. I realized that I had to make a change and take a break from drinking and I needed support.  So I reached out to a sober coach, Belle Robertson of Tired Of Thinking About Drinking, and signed up to work with her.  Here Are 4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 219: Should I Take A Break From Drinking? Look For These Signs To Know It’s Time

Have you been thinking about taking a break from drinking, only to decide that you’re “not that bad”?  Most women who wonder if they’re drinking too much can look around and find lots of reasons why it’s not a “real issue”.  We’ve been told that having a problem with alcohol is black or white. Either you fall into the category of someone who is “an alcoholic” or who has a “drinking problem", or you don’t. But in truth binge drinking among women has become so normalized that it’s easy to dismiss any worries you have about your alcohol consumption by looking at friends and family members who drink like you do. A lot of women fall into a category known as “gray area drinking” where your drinking falls between the extremes of having negative consequences from alcohol consumption and being able to take it or leave it on occasion.  You don’t have to have a drinking problem to decide that drinking isn’t helping you be your best self. And you don’t need to be an alcoholic to benefit from a longer period of time alcohol-free. Ep. 218: How To Transform Your Home To Reduce Triggers To Drink and Support Your Sobriety

Is your home set up to support your sobriety or sabotage your efforts to lead an alcohol-free life? If you’re used to opening a bottle of wine the minute you walk in the door, having a cocktail on the back deck or curling up on the couch with your laptop or netflix after the kids go to bed, your home environment can be a powerful trigger to drink.  But it doesn’t have to be that way. The way you live and design your environment can make it harder or easier to be alcohol-free. And especially in early sobriety you need to build a sober bubble.  When I quit drinking, in order to build my sober bubble I needed to remove all the wine from my house. I also needed to create a sober sanctuary where I could retreat to after dinner. A place to support a new evening routine that didn’t include drinking on my couch after the kids went to bed.  So I spent some time making my bedroom a place that sparked joy and supported peace and calm in the evenings. I created a space that supported my new alcohol-free lifestyle. One in which I took care of my body and myself.  Simple changes can reduce cravings to drink and create a nurturing space for self care and sobriety. I asked Caroline Thor, a KonMari® Consultant and the host of the Living Clutter Free Forever podcast, to share how you can create a home that supports your ideal alcohol-free lifestyle. 3 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 216: Why Emotional Sobriety Is Key to Navigating an Alcohol-Free Life

When I was drinking I used alcohol to check out after a hard day, numb out from irritation and resentment, make the monotony of adulting less boring and as a reward to look forward to for getting through another week.  And when drinking left me with too many hangovers, sleepless nights and crushing anxiety I finally decided that I didn’t want to feel that way anymore and (slowly) pieced together 30, 60, 100, 180+ days alcohol-free.  It’s not easy, but it is pretty clear how to do the “sobriety” thing. When you don’t drink, you’re sober! But in order to “stay” sober, learning how to practice emotional sobriety can keep you balanced and happy in an alcohol-free life. Emotional sobriety is all about handling your emotions in a healthy, balanced way without turning to alcohol to cope with life’s challenges.  It’s really important for long-term recovery because ignoring your mental and emotional health can get you in a place where it’s really attractive to escape with alcohol.  4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women.
