Shortly after the release of the prior episode in this series the show was contacted by someone claiming to be a close friend of Emily's named Nicole Margerison. Nicole offered to fill in many of the blanks related to Emily's last known whereabouts and possibly shed some light on the circumstances related to her disappearance. Margerison was one of the last people to see Emily, was polygraphed by Hamilton police, and provided investigators with some disturbing information regarding the man she last saw Emily with. In this episode Nicole and I will discuss many new details related to the still unexplained disappearance of her friend Emily Bailey. This story will take us to Hamilton, Ontario in the time surrounding new year's day 2022. 23 year old mother of two Emily Bailey was juggling mental health struggles and addition while living a life resembling something between homelessness and couch surfing. Despite the instability of her lifestyle, Emily was reliable. She posted regularly to social media and had scheduled visits with her children that she would NEVER miss. But she did miss one in January and very quickly it was determined that no one had seen or heard from her in over a week and the trail she left behind is obscured by conflicting statements of the unreliable witnesses to her last known days. All we know for certain is that her family is desperate to find her. In this episode we hear from one of the broken hearted loved ones left behind. UPDATE: Calgary police have confirmed that Deeanna’s remains were discovered on April 16, 2026, and have stated that her death is not considered criminal in nature. Our thoughts are with Shelby and all of Deeanna’s loved ones during this difficult time. When Deeanna Erickson boarded a bus in Calgary on the night of June 6, 2025, something went wrong. Surveillance footage shows the 31 year old visibly distressed, crying and rocking back and forth, before suddenly stepping off in the Walden area, more than 10 kilometres from her home. This week on The Canadian Gothic, we’re revisiting a case that continues to unfold in the headlines. Due to travel, we’re taking a short break from new releases, but rather than leave you without an episode, we’re bringing back our coverage of the murder of Paul Schmidt, a shocking and deeply disturbing act of violence that unfolded in downtown Vancouver on March 26, 2023. In broad daylight, outside a busy Starbucks, Paul was attacked and killed following a brief confrontation while standing with his young daughter. The incident, which was partially captured on video and widely shared online, left a lasting impact on the public and raised difficult questions about violence, bystander behavior, and the justice system. At the time of this original episode, many details were still emerging. Now, as the trial of the accused continues to work its way through the courts, this case is once again in the spotlight. On May 10, 1973, a stranger walked into a bank on Main Street in Kenora, Ontario, carrying guns, duffle bags, and a homemade bomb that was armed to a switch he clenched between his teeth. For more than an hour the standoff dragged on inside the bank as a growing crowd of onlookers crowded the street outside it’s doors. At 4:12 p.m., a single rifle shot ended the robbery in an explosion that shattered windows, scattered money through the air, and erased the man at the center of it all. More than fifty years later, his identity and his motives remain unknown. In June 2018, following a Hockey Canada gala in London, Ontario, a young woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by members of Canada’s gold medal winning World Junior hockey team. The case was investigated and closed without charges, and the public remained unaware for years. That changed in 2022, when a civil lawsuit and quiet settlement from the sport’s regulating body Hockey Canada exposed the allegations.
