What a Creep Season 29, Episode 3 Brian Buckmire (ABC News Legal Contributor) Host of Bad Rap: The Case Against Diddy Sean "Diddy" Combs was among hip-hop's most influential entertainers and entrepreneurs for decades. But Diddy’s star began to implode when a video came out showing the music mogul assaulting his then-girlfriend. There had long been whispers about Diddy's aggression. But critics say his influence and relevance kept the rumors quiet until now. A raft of new lawsuits detail shocking allegations of sexual abuse and manipulation orchestrated in so-called "freak offs" -- sex parties Diddy allegedly ordered, videotaped, and controlled. Diddy now faces federal charges that include sex trafficking. He has denied all wrongdoing and said all encounters were consensual. A new podcast from 20/20 and ABC Audio traces how whispers of abuse came to light and led to Diddy’s downfall. ABC News legal contributor Brian Buckmire takes listeners inside the rise and fall of Diddy, the allegations and his defense in a six-part weekly narrative series launching March 25, and returning with twice weekly real-time updates once the trial slated for May gets underway. Bad Rap: The Case Against Diddy, Trigger warning: Sexual assault and sex trafficking. Be sure to follow us on social media. What a Creep Season 29, Episode 2 Stephen Collins & Jeffrey Jones (Replay ep!) Stephen Collins is best known for his role on the wholesome WB drama series 7th Heaven, which aired from 1996 to 2007. Jeffrey Jones is likely most recognized for portraying the cartoonish principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the clueless dad in Beetlejuice. The Max show "Hollywood Demons" includes an entire episode discussing Collins's disturbing behavior, featuring testimonies from one of his victims. So we thought replaying this episode while Sonia goes on a well-deserved vacation would be good. Stephen Collins & Jeffrey Jones- What Creeps! What a Creep “The Disappearance of Bobby Dunbar” (1912) Season 29, Episode 1 Margo & Sonia love us a creepy historical crime, and what is more puzzling than the case of Bobby Dunbar? In 1912, four-year-old Bobby Dunbar vanished during a family trip to Swayze Lake, Louisiana, sparking a massive search. Eight months later, a boy resembling Bobby was found with a handyman, William Walters, who insisted the child was Bruce Anderson, the son of Julia Anderson. Despite her claims, the Dunbars took the boy and raised him as Bobby. In 2004, DNA testing confirmed he was not biologically related to the Dunbars, meaning the real Bobby Dunbar's fate remains unknown, making this one of history’s most haunting cases of mistaken identity. What a Creep Led Zeppelin on Tour Season 28, Episode 7 Led Zeppelin is making headlines again with releasing their first official documentary in decades, titled "Becoming Led Zeppelin." The film primarily focuses on the band's music and the early stages of their career as iconic touring legends. One of us is a huge fan (the one leading this episode) and appreciates the band’s remarkable talent while also acknowledging their complicated history, which includes some unsettling stories. Their life on the road has become part of the groupie lore passed down for decades, and there are also stories involving witchcraft and devil worship connected to Jimmy Page. The band officially broke up in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham. They have regrouped in various forms over the years, but the late '60s and '70s Led Zeppelin—with their numerous tales of debauchery—form the basis for most of this episode. Let's Ramble On, y'all! What a Creep Some of the Creepiest Plots to John Hughes Films Season 28, Episode 1 John Hughes accomplished the remarkable feat of being a quintessential Baby Boomer while still resonating with Generation X and Millennials through his films. Movies—such as 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty in Pink, and She’s Having a Baby—became essential viewing for generations that felt overlooked by mainstream media. He genuinely seemed like “one of us.” However, when we examine his work through a modern lens, it is difficult to overlook an alarming pattern of racism, homophobia, white privilege, and sexism, as well as some questionable behavior exhibited by the male leads in his films from the 1980s and 1990s. What a Creep Season 27, Episode 7 The Disappointment of Gen-X Men Born between 1965 and 1980, Gen X is often referred to as the “forgotten generation.” They were raised on MTV, punk rock, hiphop, the Cold War, afterschool specials, latchkey childhoods, and a healthy dose of cynicism. They gave us grunge music, independent films, mix-tape culture, and some of the best pop culture of the late 20th century. But along with all that coolness came a hefty dose of entitlement, misogyny, and resistance to change—especially when it came to gender equality.Today, we’re going to break it all down: the mix-tape mentality, toxic fandom, the fetishization of the “manic pixie dream girl,” the anti-hippie ethos, and how these dynamics played out with public figures like JD Vance, Dave Grohl, Chris Rock, Joe Rogan, and even Kurt Cobain. What a Creep Season 27, Episode 5 Creepy Fairy Tale Origin Stories! Forget everything you learned from animated films… several beloved fairy tales are far from the joyous Disney creatures we have all seen since childhood. This episode discusses the dark worlds behind Little Red Riding Hood, The Little Mermaid, and Hansel and Gretel. The sanitized versions of these fairy tales we share today keep only hints of these origins, but the eerie stories lurking beneath the surface remind us that fairy tales weren’t always about happy endings. What a Creep Harry Powers: The Inspiration for “The Night of the Hunter” Season 27, Episode 3 Harry Powers, often called the "Lonely Hearts Killer," was a notorious American serial killer active in the early 1930s. Born Herman Drenth in the Netherlands in 1892, he emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in West Virginia. Powers used personal ads in newspapers to target his victims, posing as a lonely, wealthy bachelor seeking companionship. He lured women, often widows or divorcées, with promises of marriage and financial security. In 1931, Powers was arrested and charged with the murders of Asta Eicher, a widow from Illinois, her three children, and another woman named Dorothy Lemke from Massachusetts. His murders were shockingly brutal; he confined his victims in a hidden room in his garage before killing them. After murdering his victims, Powers took their money and belongings. Powers' trial received extensive media coverage due to the horrific details and his manipulative use of "lonely hearts" ads. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced to death, being hanged on March 18, 1932, in Moundsville, West Virginia. His crimes have inspired books and films, solidifying his infamy as a symbol of betrayal in love and trust. Harry Powers was also a significant inspiration for the novel and subsequent film The Night of the Hunter. The novel was written by Davis Grubb in 1953 and adapted into a film in 1955. What a Creep The Salem Witch Trials Season 27, Episode 1 The Salem Witch Trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions that took place in colonial Massachusetts from February 1692 to May 1693. These trials resulted in the execution of 20 individuals, most of whom were women, who were accused of practicing witchcraft. The hysteria began in the Puritan village of Salem, which is now present-day Danvers, but the panic quickly spread to other communities in the region. In this episode, we explore what life was like in Salem Village and examine the factors that led nearly 20% of its population to believe that they or their neighbors were involved in witchcraft. He gained national attention as chief counsel to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the McCarthy hearings in the 1950s. After working with McCarthy, Cohn became a private attorney, representing clients like Donald Trump and mafia bosses. Cohn's manipulative strategies served as a foundation for Trump's later tactics in his political career. Allegations of unethical behavior marked Cohn's career, and he was disbarred in 1986 for professional misconduct. He died of AIDS-related complications shortly after. The Apprentice (2024), directed by Ali Abbasi, is a controversial film that delves into Trump's (played by Sebastian Stan) early life, focusing on his rise in the 1970s and 1980s. What a Creep Season 26, Episode 5 Sun City and Apartheid in South Africa Sun City is a luxury resort and casino complex in South Africa. During the apartheid era (1948-1990s), it became infamous for hosting international artists despite the global cultural boycott of South Africa. The South African government promoted Sun City as a major entertainment destination, but for many, it symbolized the oppression and exploitation of apartheid. Artists United Against Apartheid was a collective of musicians who came together in 1985 to raise awareness and protest apartheid, mainly targeting the Sun City resort. Steven Van Zandt, a musician and member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, and record producer Arthur Baker spearheaded the group. What a Creep (Replay!) Season 20, Episode 7 George Washington and the Tale of Ona Judge George Washington is the “Father of Our Country” and one of American history's most revered Founding Fathers. We heard tales of how brave he was and that he could not tell a lie. He also famously refused to create a fiefdom with the office of President, which means we are not stuck with someone in office unless they are duly elected. Like many white people of his time, he enslaved people. This is a fact, and though not unusual in his peer group--it's not a great look for a person who is enshrined all across the United States. People want to downplay his racism and evil acts. Listening to Bill Maher and Elon Musk minimize his actions made us realize we need to dive into one of the first President’s most heinous acts by talking about badass Ona Judge. An enslaved woman who escaped from the President’s home and remained free despite his relentless pursuit of her. This woman is an American hero whom everyone who truly believes in liberty and freedom needs to learn about and memorialize her contribution to history. What a Creep Season 25, Episode 7 The Murder of Dominique Dunne by John Thomas Sweeney Dominique Dunne, known for her role in the 1982 film "Poltergeist," had a bright future. Tragically, her life was cut short on October 30, 1982, when her ex-boyfriend strangled her, John Thomas Sweeney, outside her West Hollywood home. She never regained consciousness and died on November 4, 1982, at just 22 years old. The trial that followed sparked outrage. Sweeney was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, not murder, and served only three years of a six-and-a-half-year sentence. This lenient sentence highlighted severe flaws in the justice system's handling of domestic violence cases. Dominique's death brought attention to domestic abuse, prompting her family, especially her father, Dominick Dunne, to advocate for victims' rights and legal reforms. Her legacy endures through these efforts and her memorable work in film.
