Senator JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Governor Tim Walls faced off in New York last night.

The two men paid each other respect, but launched scathing attacks on their opponents running mates.

The CBS debate was the first and only

vice presidential matchup and with no further presidential debates scheduled

it's likely the last time we'll see the Republican and Democratic tickets go head

to head before next month's election.

The candidates discussed abortion, immigration, and gun violence.

Vance used softer tones than he's displayed on the campaign trail. He tried to reintroduce a smoother, more affable

version of himself to the nation. Meanwhile, Wals was introducing himself to many Americans

for the first time. He seemed nervous at first and he said

he quote misspoke about elements of his biography.

Look I will be the first to tell you I have poured my heart into my community

I've tried to do the best I can but I've not been

perfect and I'm a knucklehead at times.

In another key moment Vance dodged a question from Walls about whether his running

me Donald Trump had lost the 2020 election.
