Summary

What you’re about to hear is a conversation between writer Verônika Shülman and myself, recorded last week at a party! In honor of the release of my new zine, Pivot, I hosted a party at NOTO and invited all of my friends. It was so nice to be in the same room with everyone after being stuck inside for most of the summer with a broken leg—in that time I had put together this zine, which is about the lessons I learned in the last decade and how I learned them. My friend and neighbor Verônika hosts this episode. She begins by reading from a book we both love (I Love Dick by Chris Kraus), then reads a bit that she liked from Pivot, and asks me to read an essay from it—which I do. My friends Maddie and Dexter also ask questions and we talk about more writers we love. If you want a copy of Pivot, below is how to get yourself a hard copy.

Maybe the self-help thing, like I think everyone would be kind of into it now.

Like, it's like, whatever.

Hi, welcome back. This week. It's a little bit different. It's not recorded in a studio or even my studio apartment where it's usually recorded because we're going

0:33.1

to a party. Get ready. Maybe we're there already. It's the recording of the launch party to the

0:40.9

zine that I made this summer. It's called Pivot and maybe you heard about it last week's episode

0:46.8

with my friend Simmy, who is the first person to read it. But this one's a little bit different.

Manage your audio expectations accordingly

0:56.0

because, like I said, it's recorded in the middle of a party and I had the best time.

1:02.0

I'm so grateful that I got to do it. It was great to just be out of the house. I honestly

1:10.0

was really moved in the middle of it, which you'll hear. I look around the

1:14.5

room. So many of my friends were there and so many of those people helped me this year when I

1:20.6

broke my leg and spent most of the summer in a cast and really couldn't do much and needed

1:25.3

rides to doctor's appointments and groceries

1:29.9

and everyone was so supportive and kind and I feel closer with everyone because of it and so many

1:36.7

of those people were in in this room and that was really special and it was moving to look around and get to see them and

1:45.3

and celebrate something that I am excited about which was progress you know I think I

1:53.8

again you'll hear me talk about in this but I was pretty bummed and I needed to do something

1:59.5

and this was a low-hanging fruit.
