Summary

I get a lot of questions from people who are new to thought work that have to do with gaslighting themselves. It’s a totally normal concern and one that I’ve talked about many times on the podcast. But here’s why it’s so interesting. It comes from the assumption that your original unconscious thoughts are better or carry more importance simply because it is your original subconscious thought. Why are we giving more importance to the first thing our brains spit out than the thoughts we intentionally cultivate ourselves?

Listen to this week’s podcast episode to learn why our original thoughts aren’t necessarily our most helpful thoughts and how the most real or ‘you’ thoughts can be the ones you choose intentionally.

Hello, my chickens. How are you? I just got back from 10 days in Italy and I took the

0:36.5

gentleman consort on a luxury door. It was really an incredible trip in so many ways.

0:43.2

Like, we stayed in these incredibly beautiful places. We stayed at the hotel that was in

0:49.5

a 10th century castle. We stayed at a 14th century monastery and a pilates

0:56.2

of windows. Just incredibly beautiful surroundings. We saw incredible art. We ate delicious meals.

It was amazing. And also we were still humans. I got stressed out when I was hangry. I don't

1:11.9

like being hot and we were there in a heat wave. I was sometimes annoyed with myself, sometimes

1:19.2

I was annoyed with my partner, right? I was in love with all the things about the gentleman

1:24.2

consort and myself that I'm always in love with. And then I was annoyed by all the things

1:27.3

that I'm always annoyed about that my brain creates annoyance over, right? Because even

1:31.6

a luxury vacation to Italy is not an exit ramp from the human experience. And I was also

1:38.3

going through a grieving process on the trip because a few hours before the trip, I had

1:42.8

to put my cat of 20 years Darwin to sleep. He had a very good long run and just kind of

1:49.7

come to the end. But all of that timing was kind of insane. So I spent, you know, I flew

1:55.2

first class to Italy and I spent the flight crying because I had just had to put down my

1:59.9

cat. Really, when I tell you that life is 50-50, life is fucking 50-50. So that's what I

2:08.1

got. No, that's on the end of the podcast. But I don't really have a segue. That's just

2:12.8

my update. I felt like it was important for you all to know that life is 50-50, even

2:18.1

when you are staying in a Palazzo with a 14th century ceiling. Life is still 50-50. Also,
