I don't know when linebacker Cole Holcomb is going to play football again inside a stadium. Getting back in 2024 feels like a big time challenge for a

Steelers team only guaranteed to play two more weeks. But that doesn't matter, at least not right now.

The fact he returned to practice Tuesday afternoon is awesome.

Holcomb suffered a scary knee injury more than 13 months ago that ended his 2020-season in Costum 2024.

We still don't know all the details over what the nature of it was.

But you miss a full calendar year with an injury in this

modern age where players return from torn ACLs and Achilles in about six months, and you know

it's a serious, significant injury. That's the hidden underbelly of the NFL I occasionally referenced,

the ugly side of the game.

Getting hurt long term can feel like being voted off the island.

The team is in meetings, out on the field practicing, getting ready for the game.

You're in the trainer's room rehabbing.

It can really add to the mental strain of not only being unable to play, but not feeling like part of the team and the cause.

Pittsburgh, to their credit, seemingly avoided that.
