i'm josh carney when coaches and coordinators speak to the media,

particularly with the Pittsburgh Steelers, you don't tend to get much of anything, if at all,

from all the coach talk. But a brief comment by offensive coordinator Arthur Smith on Wednesday

gave some insight into decision-making at the runningback position. And based on Smith's comment,

it's rather concerning, too. Smith stated that the Steelers have three capable running backs that

they feel comfortable with in Jalen Warren, Najee Harris, and Cordrell Patterson. Therein lies the

problem. Smith believing they have three capable running backs.

Smith shouldn't be leaning on three running backs, making sure all three get touches in games.

Right now, he should be focused on leaning heavily on Jalen Warren, who has been their best

and most effective running back the last few weeks. After that, only Najee Harris should be getting work out of the backfield.

There is no need to scheme up some touches for Cordarell Patterson,

regardless of the respect that Smith, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have for the veteran,

who should be a Hall of Famer when it's all said and done.

What Smith needs to do is play the hot hand and not go away from him. That would be Warren.

That's not to say they should ice Harris out completely because he's still effective in his role

late in the season as that bruiser. But this has to be the Jalen Warren show moving forward.
