The Steelers have made a flurry of coaching changes this off season most coming on the

offensive side of the football, which is about what I expected

one area they have not changed in years is special teams coordinator now I'm not

going to be the one to say fire Danny Smith I don't believe it and even if I did I'd have to

head straight to confession to repent from my sins. But Smith is not getting any

younger and at some point the Steelers will have to replace him. It wouldn't be a

bad idea to hire a dedicated

special team's assistant as a potential air to that gum-chewing throne. Pittsburgh

remains the only team in football to have just one coach Smith officially carry a special teams title.

It has not always been that way Pittsburgh once had out Everest and Amish Jones and

it would be just as wise to add someone new to the roster. Special teams involve such a huge number

of people. A little help does not hurt. Now I know there's people who currently help Smith. He is not completely

flying solo, but another hire would be good for the present

and potentially the future as well. A large coaching staff does not correlate automatically

to NFL success. The results I've uncovered have been very mixed, but this would be a logical

addition ahead of 2024.
