Befriending yourself, that's the purpose of mindfulness. It is not Zen, floating away on a cloud of ice-cream. The purpose of mindfulness is to befriend what's happening in you so you can do something about it. Thoughts on Breathing The breath is a paradigm for everything. When the sun rises in the east, it's heat causes the earth to exhale. That exhale is called transpiration. It releases it's breath, which then begins the cycles of life. You can think about breath in terms of, we're living and dying in every moment. That means we're starting over in every moment. There is death and rebirth in every moment. And that's what the breath signifies to me.
