Hello, it's Eve here and welcome to Wednesday and to Radio Headspace. So I thought today

I would talk a little bit about happiness and in particular the happiness of others.

So I was out for a walk the other day. I needed a much needed break from my screen. I had

woken up feeling a little heavy in my heart. My energy was a little low and I just felt

tired. It's partly why I took myself off for a walk. So as I was walking along a little

lost in my own thoughts and not really connecting in with my body or my surroundings the way

I had intended to. I saw a group of people with some young children and a baby who were

having a picnic. As I got closer I could hear them all laughing and it was really a kind

of infectious laughter especially the little baby. Honestly it was so cute and I found myself

smiling. Taking in their joy quite literally made me feel joyful. My point here is really

about how we tend to view our own happiness as separate from other people's happiness

and something that can really stand in the way of our own happiness is envy or jealousy.

These days it's only too easy to see on social media people quote unquote living their best

lives. You know the posts where someone has uploaded pictures of a perfect holiday and

they look so free and happy and you're stuck inside at work with no idea when you're

going to be able to get even close to a vacation. And on the opposite end of this are sometimes
