Hi and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Thursday. So today it's story time. Well, more specifically,

the stories we tell ourselves. So a couple of weeks ago I was chatting to a friend and she

was telling me that she'd just started dating a new guy and that she really liked him. Things

had been going pretty well and they were messaging most days and speaking on the phone and

had already been on about five or six dates. So you know, she thought it had potential.

Until one day she didn't hear anything from him. She didn't want to send loads of messages

or look like she was panicking but she really wanted to know why he'd not got back in touch.

Had she been ghosted? So she started thinking about all the things that could have gone wrong.

He probably doesn't like me anymore. It's probably something I said. Oh no, what if you

think I'm boring? And then there was this brand new story being created in her mind,

one that immediately found her to be the one to blame. And all of this left her feeling

pretty anxious and upset. After three days he did get in touch and he was really apologetic

and explained that his grandma had been taken into hospital with COVID and that he had

to take care of his mom. Now of course he could have messaged. It only takes two minutes

after all. But clearly he was focused on what was happening to his family and he just

didn't. Thankfully his grandma is making good progress and my friend is still dating

...
