Hello and welcome to Hot Masterpiece Theater, the show where we have high-brow conversations about low-brow entertainment, specifically reality TV.

I'm Jolenta Greenberg, a comedian and culture critic, and I'll be serving as your reality TV dramaturg today.

Reminder, a dramaturg is just a researcher that gives background information on theatrical productions and helps put dramatic works into cultural context.

A reality TV dramaturg treats reality TV like serious art because it is. It is just storytelling

like every other form of entertainment and the characters we see on reality

TV aren't any messier or less classy than characters we'd find in Shakespeare or Greek mythology.

As usual, we are continuing our journey through different archetypes, and reminder

archetypes are like character blueprints for all the different types of characters you come

across in any form of entertainment.

They just sort of give the general wants and desires and motivation for every type of character.

This week, we are continuing with our stereotypically male archetypes.

Reminder, this is a progressive feminist podcast, so we don't really think that gender matters that much when it comes to archetypes,

like there's no need to assign a gender. But for this specific one in particular, I will be

referring to him as male because it's easier to just keep track of it all, because there's lots

of mention of ladies. What do I mean there's lots of mention of ladies? Well, this week we are talking about an archetype that thinks he is truly an expert with women, the ladies man.

The ladies man loves women. He is obsessed with them. He loves looking at women, talking to women, sleeping with women. Dude cannot get enough of women. He often has an unconventional job or

no job at all, but he makes up for that by being so personable. He's great at holding conversations
