I'm John Batchler. I welcome Conrad Black, distinguished biographer, writing his column for the National Post,

and observing Canada in the news with regard to the People's Republic of China.

Canada's new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, is a very experienced world banker, as well as a man

who is comfortable from his days in private business and in public business. He now leads Canada to

look at a new day with regard China and China trade. We're also looking at the President of the

United States traveling to China in the middle of May for a very important conversation about

tariffs and about trade with

Xi Jinping. What I'm most concerned with right now is what Canada sees as its needs, given the

political rhetoric suggests that Mr. Carney is looking for business from Canada because he does

not count on business from America the way it used to be.

And the mood of the Canadian people as they face what could be a switch of directions

from the U.S.-bound trade to China-bound trade.

Conrad, a very good evening to you. You have a very vast and rich country of resources

Mr. Carney's visit to Beijing and his return, is it now reflections that it was a positive

a success because so much of Mr. Carney's politics, apart from his banking, has to do with

enmity towards the U.S. and Mr. Trump.

So the overtures towards China, were they seen as a success or a refutation of Trump only?
