I'm John Batchelor. I welcome Gordon Chang at Gordon Ging, my colleague and co-host,

and we're very pleased to

welcome our colleague, Steve Yates, of the Heritage Foundation, because we're looking at ambiguity

in statements by the leadership of the United States and China, People's Republic of China.

The language is about the meeting that may or may not be in the book

from March 31st to early April between the two principles, Mr. Trump and Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The Trump administration and the president himself has requested a postponement. That's the word used in the headlines. At this point, there's no reason to believe that China will not agree to a postponement. However, it is not fixed. And therein lies the challenge, this is not a meet-in-gureet meeting.

This is substantive about the tariffs that have been in dispute for more than a year now,

certainly since the Trump administration introduced Liberation Day, April 1st of 2025.

So despite the headlines dominating the news everywhere,

Netanyo hopes strikes on Iran will lead to uprising in the New York Times and the Financial Times.

They're saying that the world of shipping is now the Wild West.

In Bloomberg, they're saying the markets in Asia are up, oil is up.

In other words, there's the same chaos there was 24 hours ago.

We're looking to make one thing certain in a world of uncertainty, and that's a meeting date

between the two leaders.

Gordon, can you offer clarity on this date?

Does it exist now that the request for postponement has been

made? Good day to you, Gordon. Good day, John, and hello, Steve. Well, China has never confirmed

the meeting. The White House announced it would start on March 31st and end on April 2nd. The

Chinese never confirmed it. And that is sort of what the Chinese do, is make the foreigners sweat a little bit.

Problem for China right now is for President Trump saying, I'm not going.
