I'm John Batchel. I welcome my colleague Mary Kissel. She is the Executive Vice President of Stevens, Incorporated.

She is the former advisor, senior advisor to the Secretary of State, Mr. Pompeo in the first Trump term, many years in Asia for the Wall Street Journal editorial page.

I turn to Mary when it looks to me that the State Department is in the action,

and they are right now with peculiar headlines, to my mind,

putting together the U.S. dollar and the colony of Greenland.

The headline in the Financial Times in London for hours.

Dollar and U.S. stocks fall, as Trump says, quote, no going back, end quote, on Greenland bid.

Subhead, European leaders criticized stance on Arctic Island with Macron, President of France, taking aim at the U.S. president's useless aggressivity. That's in quotes. It must be more vivid in French.

This is a puzzle to me, Mary, because Greenland, 50,000 people, capital of Nook, is not the center of any storm.

It's a colony of Denmark.

Has been for several centuries.

During the second war, the facts are that when Denmark was overrun by the aggressor,

in those days, that was the Bergmacht and Hitlerites.

Greenland lost the control of Greenland.

Greenland was lost to Denmark, and the U.S. took possession of it to protect it from the Nazi depredations.

...
