This is John Batchel. Colleague, Malcolm Honan, reporting on the Baloch of Balochistan, part of Iran, part of Pakistan,

a separate identity, very strong-minded about their land and the encroachments of the Iranian regime and the Pakistani regime many years passed.

Malcolm reports on the Beluch and their attitude towards the protests we can see going on in Tehran.

We can presume that they're also going on in Balochistan,

but without the Internet and without telephones, the reporting is hit or

miss. So here's what we know right now about the uprising, if that's what it is, the rebellion,

if that's what it is, the protests looking to end the regime that are going on in Tehran,

also in Balochistan.

Yes, I can.

There's a new coalition called the Morarizun Popular Front, MPF,

that declared open support for rebellion in the Sunni majority provinces of Sistan and Balochistan. And as you know, there are about

12 million Baluchis in Iran. This is a very big deal. I think it's been much quieter than

anticipated in the very big Azeri area, about 30 million people. Although every province, every one of the 30 plus provinces have

had demonstrations, many of them, because there's limited coverage, there's no means of getting

the reports out. We don't know. We know that they have taken over some of the police stations.

In some cases, the police did not resist the demonstrators. So it is spreading throughout the country.

We don't know, though, the degree because of the limited information. The MPF has several

Belucci organizations, including some of the older, long-established one, La Jaisaladi.

And this is the most neglected part of Iran-Sistan and Balochistan.
