former ambassador from the UK to Yemen, many years with the UN monitoring team watching the wars

and the threats, looks at the Muslim Brotherhood, retreated to perhaps Turkey in exile, but sophisticated, unusual organization.

Best described as decentralized, but there's more to it.

Here Edmund begins the explication of the Muslim brothers, who are the parent of Hamas, but much more, more of this tonight.

I would say that what you have with the Muslim Brotherhood globally is a kind of variable geometry.

They quite avowedly, deliberately have adopted a decentralized business model.

There is no command and control.

There is no office that sits there with all of the money and sends out salaries and issues instructions.

It's much more informal than that.

The ideology and the level of ideological discipline is quite high.

And of course, they've never disavowed the teachings of their original founders

of going back all the way, going back almost a century.

You know, the Muslim Brotherhood will celebrate its centenary in 2028.

But those original teachings, which were very violent, very much in favour of violent revolution,

and that continued to be the case for decades, they've never really disavowed those teachings,

but what they've gone for is tactical opportunism.

So if they are operating in a place like America, like the United States,

or in Great Britain, then they adopt one business model,

which will be gradualist and working entirely within Muslim communities

and seeking influence and a foothold in those societies and in their governments and in their official structures.

And they won't be advocating violence because they've understood
