This is actually the first Friday of the new year too, pretty exciting.

Today we will discuss the mindfulness concept of non-striving.

This concept of non-striving provides us with some guidance in an effective way to accomplish

any goal that we set for ourselves.

So in today's world there's a general notion of achieving and advancing, setting goals

and accomplishing them.

I think it really starts from when we are babies.

I remember when our daughters were born, the goal or accomplishment my wife and I immediately

instilled onto our newborn babies was to effectively latch onto my wife for breastfeeding.

If they weren't successful then we gently encourage them to keep trying and when they were

successful then we praise them for it.

I'm positive this is common for many new parents in their infants and even though the baby

doesn't understand the words that are being said, remembering that 80 to 85% of communication

is nonverbal.

I believe that the baby is able to get the idea of what's going on.

They receive the message that there's a goal to accomplish.

And so this continues as the baby is learning how to walk, learning how to talk and then

school starts, kindergarten to elementary, middle school, high school, college and then

it's on to the career and beyond.

It's almost like it never stops and I'm guilty of it too.
