Summary

In the first part of this Feature, we interview Adam Hascall, Founder of Rain Parade. Rain Parade allows you to send a chocolate male organ anonymously to a friend as a prank.

It started between him and some friends. They made a website, started seeing organic traffic, and realized that they stumbled across a potential business opportunity.

In this interview, he reflects on his upbringing and growing up in a very religious Catholic family. He was always creative and pursued the arts. He got his MBA and then realized that’s not what he wanted. Adam also didn’t want to be forced into a starving artist trope, so he decided to build his own business.

He recalls that his father was very embarrassed about his idea but later realized that it really was a business, albeit a very unusual one.

In Part 1, we hear about his upbringing, his time at school, his company's birth, and dealing with his religious parents’ reaction to his new company.

0:41.1	started. So Rain Parade is kind of the larger where everything lives. But then under that,
0:46.4	the two main companies that we, I imagine, we'll talk a lot about here today are both Pranks
0:51.9	Anonymous and Dick at Your Door.
0:56.0	They're both novelty companies, as you sounds like, the names kind of give away, but they're, you know, stationary.
1:05.0	It's edible, fun edible products for gifting for, you know, birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day, stocking
1:12.9	stuffers.
1:15.0	Dick at Your Door was actually the first company I started back when I was still working in an office.
1:20.5	It was an absolute joke with a friend of mine.
1:24.7	We were sending, as you can guess, chocolate penises to our friends in the mail
1:29.6	anonymously. My friend and I that were doing it, he has some web background to build a website
1:38.2	just to kind of give it some more, I guess, realism for when our friends would receive these
1:43.2	because it was just a prank.
1:45.0	We were playing amongst friends.
1:47.0	And eventually we started to just get random traffic and people were landing on the site
1:53.0	and we were seeing organic traffic come.
1:55.0	So we threw up a shopping cart and the very next day we got our first order and I guess you can kind of say the rest is
