Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace.

It was Tuesday morning and a couple of days back I had a good fortune to sit with.

A couple of friends in a park it was strange to experience people in person and not through a computer for a change.

But we sat far enough apart and we got talking about our experiences of shutdown, of lockdown.

And how relationships kind of tend to play out in that environment, especially family relationships.

One of my friends was chatting and telling me about his experience of wanting everything in the house to be very neat and tidy.

But he wasn't really working out that way and my guess is there's probably lots of conversations like this playing out in different households.

And he was saying how it really helped him and it helped his mind when everything was neat and tidy and when everything was messy.

It was really difficult to sort of feel at ease and it reminded me of a couple of different places that I lived that as a monk.

In my earlier days, there's a novice monk. There was a big focus actually in the monastery I lived in on everything being just right.

Just so it's maybe sort of that zen idea of everything on the outside is very clear and clean and particular.

Then that's reflected and we feel some of that on the inside.

And there's no doubt that it did feel very good actually and I enjoyed it in many ways.

But then when I went to live in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery, I can remember one of my teachers coming in my room one day.
