Today we're talking to Rachel Drake.

Rachel is a great runner from here in Portland, Oregon, who is just coming off a hugely, hugely impressive second place finish at the Golden Trail

World Championship, where she faced off against some of the best racers from Europe and around

the world. And in a year with very little competition, it was really fun to follow along, and she made us here in the U.S.

and especially us here in Portland, super, super proud.

So it was great to talk about that achievement with her.

And in addition to her career as an athlete, Rachel is also an MD PhD student at OHSU, the Oregon Health and Science University here in

Portland, where she studies neonatal metabolism and currently working on her dissertation, getting ready to

defend in just a few months. So Rachel is both an athletic and an intellectual powerhouse. And it's my opinion that

Rachel and her husband Tyler Green, who's another previous guest of the podcast, are two of the

most underrated runners on the scene currently. So it was great to have her on the show and get to tell

her story in a little bit more detail. So in this conversation, we talk about Rachel's background

and her academic pursuits before shifting gears and talking about some of her racing successes,

including her recent achievement at the Golden Trail
