This is John Batchel, conversation with my colleague Mary Kissel, the Executive Vice President

Stevenson, Incorporated, former senior advisor to the Secretary of State, about what to look for,

what to expect, what to celebrate, about the embassy announced by the new Secretary of State,

Mr. Rubio, going to Central America, going to friendly states

in Central America. Much to do. We have the question of the Panama Canal Security. We have

certainly the large matter of migration to the Mexican border through Central America, and

what is to be done with those flows, with the friendly governments who've been permitting those flows.

There's also a visit at the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean,

always threatened by Havana and the bad actors of the hemisphere,

Managua, Havana, Caracas.

Mary Kisle, on the momentary visit by the Secretary of State and his staff to several

friendly countries, Central America, more of this tonight.

I think you should watch for concrete announcements about what nations like Guatemala are going

to do about the flows of illegal

immigrants into the United States. You would look for some softening in Panama and some agreement

to maybe station American troops or to acknowledge American interest in the Panama Canal. I doubt you're going to see an

agreement for troops, but you get my point. And I think when it comes to places like the DR, you

won't only see a discussion, as I said earlier, about immigration, but about the problems that

the Venezuelan regime in Cuba, in supporting the Venezuelan regime, are reeking on the region.

It is notable, John, that the secretary isn't going, as he said, to Mexico or Colombia.

Those are two nations that have been very supportive of the Castro regime.
