| 0:00.0 | Hello, my friends, and welcome to our practice session. In our practice sessions, we invite our featured |
| 0:05.8 | guests to show off their negotiation and conflict resolution skills in a realistic scenario. In this |
| 0:11.1 | session, I want you to pay attention to what our guest does and not to what I do, because while |
| 0:16.3 | they are trying to show off their skills and teach you, I'm trying to frustrate their efforts in different |
| 0:22.3 | ways through things like aggression, annoyance, emotionality, or awkwardness. And then after the |
| 0:28.5 | practice session, we debrief and talk about what worked, what didn't work, and what you can |
| 0:33.5 | use in your next difficult conversation. All right, everybody. So welcome to the practice session. |
| 0:39.3 | Again, our guest is Dan Oblinger. He was our previous guest on the last episode. So if you |
| 0:45.3 | haven't checked that out, make sure you do. This practice session has been inspired by, not inspired, |
| 0:51.8 | completely written by our friend Alan Sang. Okay, so here it is. I'm |

| 1:01.5 | hostage negotiator. A husband takes his wife hostage thinking that she's been unfaithful, fully |
| 1:08.3 | believing that. He has a knife to her throat when police show up. The wife |
| 1:12.9 | is barely able to talk or move because the mentally unstable husband has been beating her, so she |
| 1:19.1 | is unable to comply with police or fight back or run. The husband demands her or the police |
| 1:24.8 | to bring the person she's been allegedly cheating with. |
| 1:28.2 | The problem is, there is nobody. |
| 1:31.0 | So, Dan, you are the lead negotiator in this case, and you have to negotiate with this man |
| 1:35.5 | who is behind the door and unwilling to come out. |
| 1:38.5 | Any wrong move, and he will do the unthinkable. |
| 1:42.3 | Well, this is going to be a test of my acting chops. |
| 1:45.1 | You ready to go? |
