I'm Mary Mickley and I welcome you to a brand new series.

We're launching into the theme for this week all about loving kindness.

It's going to be a theme where you actually dip into some of the beautiful rich ancient traditions of yoga and meditation.

And this has to do with the Yamas.

And eventually you'll be exploring an upcoming series, The Niyamas, which is a compliment to the Yamas.

So the Niyamas and the Yamas are a series of right living or ethical rules within yoga philosophy.

They hail from the Vedas and the Yoga Sutras.

These are ancient documents.

They are considered to be a type of moral way of living.

They have to do with discipline and control.

And the very first Yamas I'll be sharing with you is, as I mentioned, the loving kindness Yamas.

It's actually called a hymnsa and it has to do with nonviolence to yourself and to others.

It has to do with minimizing harm that you cause others and yourself in thought, word, and deed.

You will be guided in best ways to behave outwardly.

And I'm sure you'll agree that the world needs a little more hymnsa or nonviolence.

It's freedom from harming others again in your thoughts, your words, and your deeds.

Even your thoughts can be considered violent or harmful.

So this is going to be a week where you focus on restraint and self-control.

And you have a challenge as you always do as we launch into a new series.

And this is a challenge I invite you to do daily.
