I'm Mary Mechley, and I welcome you back to Day 2 of the series we're exploring this week.

This week is all about managing top holiday stressors, of which there are many.

And I want to share with you a stressor that has been requested frequently.

And that is how to manage stress from having so many expectations during the holidays

and not feeling as though you're able to fulfill those expectations.

Others may also have expectations of you.

We have these visions of creating the most memorable experiences ever,

with the best food, the best gifts, the best surroundings.

And yet the truth is that not every holiday can outdo the last one.

Some holidays will be more festive, they'll be a little more excitement.

Other holidays will be more subdued.

It's okay to have a quiet gathering when maybe others around you are having big events.

But all that noise does not necessarily mean that people are experiencing more fun.

It just simply means that they're expressing themselves more outwardly as they celebrate.

So when you consider this year's holiday expectations, think about what's going on in your life

and in the lives of those you'll be sharing your time with.

And see what works best for you this year.

It can be fun to start new traditions that are completely different from previous years celebrations.

So allow yourself to open up to what's really trying to happen in your life this year and honor that.

You might find that you don't have many people to celebrate with.

And that can feel lonely and isolating.
