The fires of Los Angeles, from the L.A. Times within these hours, particularly dangerous, a quote,

weather warning for L.A. fires are in effect gusts of up to 72 miles per hour.

Subhead, L.A. Times. The National Weather Service issued an ominous, particularly dangerous situation warning for swaths of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Cautioning of wind gusts ranging from 45 to 70 miles per hour,

dry air, and a higher risk of rapid fire spread, and extreme fire behavior.

That is the warning to all the residents of Los Angeles and Ventura County.

To help me understand the scale of this, I welcome my good colleague, Jeff Bliss.

He is Pacific Watch.

Jeff, the winds have returned, and they have to, they need fuel.

And we've been watching two big fires in particular these last days, the Palisades fire

and the Eaton fire. What can you tell me about

where they are now before the winds kick up? Good evening to you, Jeff.

Good evening, John. The Palisades Fire, which is in the West L.A. area, has burned through

almost 24,000 acres, and it's 17% contained.

Now, that's great because that's up 6% over yesterday.

That's still a long way to go.

And with these winds starting to kick up, it's a big worry because it could go down into the San Fernando Valley if things go wrong.

The other fire is the Eden fire.

It's 14,000 plus acres. That's 35, 36% contained right now.

Again, it's gone up a little bit. Every little bit is great. But they've had to extend the evacuation
