This is CBS I on the World. I'm John Batchel. Jeff Bliss is Pacific Watch, and I go to Los Angeles first other cities to be looked at in the turmoil of these last

days, starting with what we're told was the presence of ice in Los Angeles a week past. Jeff,

the last time we talked a couple of nights ago, there was a curfew in place in downtown Los Angeles,

a very tight perimeter, as I recall,

and it did not extend throughout the city.

Has there been any change in the curfew, and is it effective in stopping looting or in controlling the crowds?

Good evening, John.

It has been effective in the downtown area, which it's about a one square

mile area. It's very small, the core of downtown L.A., where the federal building is, where the city

government buildings are, and also the area where much of the looting took place. Now, how much

looting could be left, you know, to be done in those areas? Hard to say.

There was some unrest yesterday. They used police horses and flashbang grenades and non-lethal rounds

to disperse the crowds, but it was certainly not like any of the nights before. They did have

some of the crowds marched to other areas. They weren't controlled by curfews.

And as violence was getting ready to break out, they thought the police moved in and dispersed the crowd.

So that was L.A. probably, you know, there's a lot of kind of, it's simmering, I would say.

And people are looking ahead to this weekend when they have the No-kings protests throughout the country and certainly in Los Angeles.

The violence, Jeff, has it led to mass arrests or just a few here and there?

A few here and there.

There were, you know, several dozen over the first couple nights when it was its most intense.
