This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Batson with my good friend Jeremy Zackas.

He is in New South Wales and we have snake stories. We'll start in Sydney because you go into a coffee shop,

something like Starbucks, you're relaxed and you realize that you need to wash your hands or use the facilities.

So you go into, very carefully, go into a well-managed store, no difficulties, and there's

a snake wrapped around the toilet bowl.

Jeremy, is this regular?

It's downtown Sydney, for heaven's sakes.

I wish I could say that this isn't regular, but this exact scenario has not only happened before,

it's actually happened at this exact same cafe in Linfield, Sydney. And Linfield is a suburb of Sydney.

So we're not talking about some rural town out in the middle of the Australian bush, you know,

hundreds of kilometres away from the urban suburban sprawl.

This is actually smack bang in the middle of Sydney.

And what's happened is that for the second time in at least the last 12 months, the snake

catches have been caught in this Linfield Cafe to remove a brown snake.

And I can say it's not the same brown snake

because the first time round that brown snake was moved out of the area and relocated somewhere else.

So John, this is a cafe that has not only had one but two brown snakes in its bathroom in the

space of 12 months, but two different brown snakes, which says that there's probably a cohort of brown snakes,

at least in that suburb, that are finding refuge in this cafe and, for whatever reason,

found themselves in the bathroom.

And I suspect the bathroom was chosen because the temperature is pretty regulated,

a lot of foot traffic compared to the cafe up front, but it also means that the actual
