It's a joy to be with you. Thanks for having me. H.B., when you say it's a joy, uh, really there's supposed to be a blizzard that's coming that's going to trap you in D.C. for days. So this is just the beginning of your service to us. Yes, it is a joy to be with you personally. It is brutal to be here in this cold weather. I'm sorry about that. I will remind you once again, it is brutal to be here in this cold weather.

Friends, we're taping this at a time when D.C. is about to enjoy maybe a foot of snow.

And H.B. is preaching for us in the morning.

And we thought we'd redeem the time by having a conversation

with H.B. It could be of some interest and utility to pastors who listen or watch.

H.B., let's just, first of all, get your background for people who might not be familiar with you.

You actually are the son of a preacher. Yes. H.B. Charles Sr.

I am. And you grew up in Los Angeles at what church?

Mount Sinai Baptist Church. And your father pastored that church from when to when?

He pastored for almost 40 years, that church. Wow. And then how did his pastor end?

My father was diagnosed with cancer and very close to that diagnosis.

He declined very rapidly and suddenly and he passed away.

Sort of like Jim Boyce who were talking about earlier.

Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. yep. Huh.

Yes, and yeah, you're right.

Did you enjoy being the pastor's son in the church growing up?
