Back on the podcast, straight off of two historic performances is the one and only Olivia Markezich!
Olivia placed 3rd at the 2023 NCAA XC Championships in Charlotte, Virgina last month. That incredible performance led her team to a 4th place finish! This was also one week after coming down with sickness.
A few week short weeks later, she opened up the indoor season with a time of 8:40.42 in the 3k, breaking her own school record which was previously set last season as she ran an 8:50.08. Her time of 8:40.42 also ranks #2 all-time!
Earlier this year, Olivia won the 3000M steeplechase at the 2023 NCAA Championships with a remarkable time of 9:25.03, setting a facility record at the University of Texas. She has excelled in various other events, such as the 5000M, and showcased her versatility in indoor competitions, earning a national runner-up in the 3000M and contributing to her team's success in the distance medley relay.
In today's conversation, Olivia takes me through her whole XC season, the ups, downs, and everything in-between. We also dicuss her signing an NIL deal with On, deciding to return to Notre Dame rather than go pro, her Spotify wrapped, and so much more!

0:16.2 | NCAA championship in the steeplechase this past summer. And Olivia recently did two remarkable things. |
0:22.0 | First and foremost, which we cover most in this conversation, she placed third at the |
0:27.4 | 2003 NCAA cross-country national championships. And her individual performance of third |
0:32.8 | elevated her team. She was the top performer on her team of Notre Dame to a fourth place team finish. And so |
0:39.5 | today's conversation centers around a lot of discussion around this past cross-country season, |
0:44.4 | getting sick, all the ups and downs that kind of went on within Olivia's season. And it was also |
0:48.8 | fun because we kind of got a preview her race in the 3K, which, if I'm not mistaken, she ran 840 in Boston, which was the |
0:55.7 | number two all-time mark. |
0:57.7 | Super incredible to see that happen, and it was kind of fun to hear a preview of it in today's |
1:03.7 | conversation and her mindset going into the meet. |
1:06.1 | Anytime I talk to Olivia, it's a lot of fun. |
1:08.2 | So without further ado, I hope you all enjoy my conversation with the one and only, Olivia Marquezich. Olivia Markizich, welcome back to the Rony Effect |
1:20.4 | podcast. A pleasure to have you back on. How are you doing today? I'm doing well. Thank you so much |
1:24.4 | for having me back on. First question for you, Olivia, right off the top. |
1:27.8 | Not sure if you've checked or if you're even on the platform. But today on my warm up for my |
1:33.8 | workout, someone texted me that Spotify Rapp was out. So naturally, I looked like a fool on the grass |
1:39.4 | warming up with my phone going through my Spotify app. Don't recommend doing probably. |
1:43.5 | I was lucky I didn't sprain an ankle. |
