Getting a breast cancer diagnosis is not what you or your loved ones ever want to hear.

The bigger problem I think with breast cancer, prostate cancer, all kinds of cancer diagnoses, is we are too hyper-focused on the treatment

with not enough emphasis on what were the lifestyle choices that played into the potential

development of cancer. And we also, it's almost like the rest of your health

no longer matters after you have been diagnosed with cancer. This is not true, and it should not be

true. Let me tell you a brief story. When I was in pharmacy residency, I did my

graduation research project in our cancer center, where I would go and I would look at not what

chemotherapy people were on, not the radiation, but what were the other medications that the patient was on that

could be contributing to adverse effects, making them feel excessively tired on top of being

tired from chemotherapy? I also took a look at, hey, homie, you are, yep, you're getting chemo.

I get it.

That is stressful and that is a lot to take on.

But you also have diabetes and your A1C has gone from a goal of six and is now creeping

up to 8.5.

So even if we heal you from the cancer through medications and surgery and radiation,

you're going to come back and then boom, have problems with diabetes that are going to

continue to make you ill.

One of the patients that I will absolutely never forget, I sat and interviewed him while

he was getting his chemotherapy. And just looking

at him, I could see patechiae, which are tiny blood, they're like tiny, tiny, tiny bruises,
