It has been one year since Hamas's October 7th attacks on Israel.

Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories.

One year ago, Southern Israeli communities awoke to a surprise attack by Hamas fighters.

It was the deadliest attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust.

About 1,200 people were killed and at least 250 were

taken hostage. Dozens of hostages are still being held in Gaza, including four Americans.

The year of war since then has devastated Gaza.

Israel's bombardment and invasion of the territory has trapped more than 2 million people

in a grinding cycle of displacement, hunger, and disease,

and it has killed more than 41,000 people according to Palestinian authorities.

Israelis are marking the anniversary of October 7th today with ceremonies and protests,

but there's no end in sight to the fighting in Gaza

and no imminent deal to release the remaining hostages.

Israel's military has not achieved its stated goal of destroying Hamas.

And the war expanded last week when Israeli ground forces entered Lebanon for the first time since 2006.

This new Israeli offensive against another militant group Hezbollah threatens even more bloodshed.
