Summary

Meghan Hicks & Bryon Powell are the longtime dynamic duo behind iRunFar, the pioneering digital media brand in trail and ultrarunning. It was just announced that Bryon would be vacating his role as Editor-in-Chief after 15 years and Meghan would be stepping up to fill that role. We talk about those changes with iRunFar, Bryon's path at arriving at the decision to step back, Meghan's perspective and goals as the new EIC, and some thoughts on Western States and Hardrock.

Hey, fam, welcome to the free trail podcast. Of course, I am your loving host, Dylan Bowman,

0:19.4

here today with Megan Hicks and Brian Powell,

0:21.6

the dynamic duo behind I Run Far, the pioneering digital media institution that has been an

0:28.3

invaluable resource for our community and a source of inspiration for many thousands of people

0:34.2

all over the world, including myself, who has been an avid I Runfar reader and

0:39.0

follower for 15 years now. Brian and Megan have both been on the show independently, but it was

0:45.0

great to have them on together at this particular moment because it happens to be a moment of

0:51.0

transition for Ironfar. It was announced a couple weeks ago that Brian would be vacating

0:56.2

Filling that role, of course, is Megan Hicks, the longtime managing

editor of Iron Farr, along with a support system of newish people like Sarah Brady and the team

1:18.7

from Lola Digital Media and the All Gear Group who acquired Iron Farr a couple of years ago.

1:24.4

As you'll hear, Brian isn't completely disappearing. Neither is Iron Farr, of course,

1:29.3

but this is a new chapter for the publication that has been, without question, the most

1:34.7

important media platform in the sport globally for at least the last decade. I have so much respect

1:40.6

for what Brian and Megan have done. In lot of ways they have paved the way for

1:44.9

free trail and everything that we're trying to do in the sport. So I feel a deep appreciation

1:49.7

for their service. And it was great to have them on the show. Of course, we talk all about the changes

1:55.2

that I run far, building the brand over time, Brian's path at arriving at this decision to step back.

2:03.0

Megan's perspective and Goals is the new editor-in-chief and a lot more. Also, Brian and I are both

2:08.5

running hard rock this coming Friday, and we recorded this shortly after Western State,
