As I mentioned in the trailer for the show, I intend to occasionally speak to people outside

the world of sport, and I figured we'd do that here to kick things off in episode one.

Today you'll hear my conversation with an old friend and colleague of mine,

a master Smalley named Carlton McCoy.

While you may have never heard of Carlton,

he's actually a big deal in the world of food and beverage,

and we used to work together at the Little Nell Hotel in Aspen, Colorado.

We recorded this conversation in April of this year on one of his last days at the hotel before he left to take over as the president and CEO of Heights Sellers, one of the most respected wineries in Napa Valley.

In this conversation, we talk about his non-traditional upbringing in the wine business, the parallels between the training and competing that I do

versus what he's experienced in his own professional life.

We talk about the concept of training partners, mentorship, and skill development that led him to pass the notoriously difficult master

Somalia exam at the ripe young age of 28 years old.

By doing so, Carlton became the second youngest person and second

African American to ever earn the master distinction, landing him in an exclusive group of only

245 people worldwide. Carlton is a man of exceptional intelligence and charisma, which makes him

great at his job and also a person who's just great to

chat with. And I think you'll find he has a lot of interesting things to say. I hope you all enjoy
