I'm John Batchel with my colleague Elizabeth Peake, who writes a column for the Hill and column for Fox News,

and I highly recommend her column on the vice president at Fox News right now.

The vice president spoke ably at the Munich Security Conference, and at one point in his remarks, he pointed to what is

politely called illiberalism, that is, suppression of the freedom of speech that we enjoy

in the United States. He pointed to examples from Germany, from Britain, and from Scotland,

and mentioned that these values we share with Europe, except now there's doubts whether Europe continues to support those values.

Remember, it's values that bring us together, not guns. Liz, I was surprised at the negative

remarks about the vice president. Immediately afterwards, I was surprised at the negative, negative remarks about the vice president.

Immediately afterwards, I believe that member of the German cabinet said his remarks were

unacceptable. The vice president then went on to meet with one of the four major candidates

for the chancellorship next Sunday.

That would be Alice Vidal leading the AFD party.

He did not meet with Mr. Schultz, to my knowledge.

He did not meet with Mr. Merritt's, to my knowledge.

He did not meet with Mr. Hayback, who represents the Greens.

He met with the leader of the outsider party, AFD. And for that, he's been condemned as election interference.

Does this all add up to you, Liz?

Well, I think that Europe's response was unbelievably hypocritical.

They're not mad that he, in other words, Vance actually rightly pointed out that Europe has been suppressing free speech.

They have passed laws in a bunch of countries, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Scotland, England, etc., which basically say that if you write something online in the way of an insult

or critical of a public official, you could literally go to jail.

I mean, this is taking our hate speech restrictions to an absurd degree.
